Is Cold Steel 1 and 2 like FC and SC, where it's two parts of the same story? I might wait till both come out if do.
Yeah, though the gap in release should be smaller. Was only about a year in Japan, and they've been well underway for localizing 2 for awhile now. If we don't see CS1 soon I would suspect bugs are dragging it all down.

I like XSEED but considering the FC and SC release date difference I'm not holding my breath that CS1 and 2 will be released close to one another.

Not really the same circumstances. They didn't even have a plan for SC when they were finishing FC. The translator from CS immediately started on CS2 once they were done with CS. IIRC Tom actually said they were most of the way done translating it a while back, don't remember for sure though.

It also has less text than CS1 (and both have less than FC, which is less than half of SC).

The first game's special edition comes with a custom clamshell that will house both the first and second title when it releases... I think they have a pretty good idea that they won't suffer the same delays as Sky SC.

According to Tom on their forums, CS 1 was actually completed within about a year. There's no reason to believe that a game with less text and a non ancient engine, won't be finished within the same time frame or less.

As others elaborated SC was a really, really screwy situation all around, CS sounds more like... say, Digital Devil Saga in that they're on the ball getting things localized and released in a similar time frame to Japan. SC meanwhile was on a system clearly on the way out, and at that time digital, Vita, and PC were not options. It also is one of THE most text heavy JRPGs (games period undoubtedly) to have ever been made and even that took about 2 years from FC's original release to hit Japan. Granted the PS3 and Vita aren't in the best of shapes themselves, but PS3 has sheer market force behind it for this sort of thing and Vita is a solid staple for niche titles like that, and with CS2 smaller than even the first game text-wise it's in a much safer position.

It sounded like Cold Steel was essentially done a while ago, so I'm surprised at lack of date still.

December is historically a burial ground for video games, sales-wise, plus Xseed is releasing two EDF games on the 9th. Releasing a third game within a week would be extremely silly (releasing two games on the same day from the same franchise is economic nonsense already).

I hope not, I'm not that interested in playing SC now, but I've been waiting forever to play Cold Steel.

Why do you want to pay Cold Steel before finishing the Liberl story? Unless you've played all of them before in Japanese, this makes no sense to me. I'm already having a hard enough time persuading myself to skip the other 3 games to play Cold Steel.

Well I can't imagine January is a great time to release a game, and February is packed with big hitters. If they don't release it now they are going to be sitting on it for some time.

If they are going to release in December they should really think about giving a release date sooner rather than later. I've finished my holiday shopping already, but the longer they wait the less likely people are going to grab the game for a Christmas gift (I would have told my brother to pick it up for me). If people knew the game was going to come out before the 25th, they could still ask for it.

If only there were someone from Xseed here that could shed more light about the release for us. Oh well.

The rules and moderation policies of NeoGAF apply to everyone, regardless of any industry affiliations they might have. Outside of that, everyone from every game industry company is welcome to participate if they'd like.

This topic is not up for discussion here, and repeated derails about moderation policy in an unrelated thread will not be looked on positively. If you have an actual concern, contact me or another member of the staff.

So, uh, looks like EBGames and Gamestop now both have Dec 22nd as their release date. Being in Canada, I don't pay much attention to Gamestop, but I'm pretty sure EBGames used to have Dec 15. So, it definitely looks like a recent change. Amazon doesn't seem to have changed theirs yet, though.

Seems odd to just push it back a single week if it's still placeholder but would XSEED seriously release a game 3 days before Christmas? That seems kinda crazy...

I'd assume they would push it back because they don't want 3 releases coming out within a week of each other. At the same time, there is a reason why no sane publisher releases games during the final 2 weeks of the year here in the West. I understand wanting to get it out if it's ready to go, but releasing it during the holidays just seems like a good way to kill it before it even had a chance. Honestly don't think they should be waiting till the middle of January or later either if the game is actually ready to be released in December.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them drop it on the 22nd. It's sending the game to die, but all things considered I'm not sure any other release date would be that much better for it.

It's really starting to seem that way, isn't it? I mean, holding it until January couldn't possibly hurt. I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt with SC and chalk it up to unlucky timing in regards to having the game ready and wanting/needing to get it out ASAP.

But no one is this inept. If they actually release Cold Steel a mere 3 days before Christmas, then there's no longer any doubt in my mind. They don't give a shit and/or don't believe in the games and we're never getting 3rd, Zero and Ao. Not unless sales for SC miraculously pick up and Cold Steel somehow doesn't bomb horribly. :(

I dunno about how January, but pushing it to February would truly be sending it to die!

Shame if it doesn't make it out this year. After PXZ2 got pushed back I promoted Cold Steel to only game released in 2015 I'd play. I gots the money now whereas I may not have it later (or the time due to playing the heck outta PXZ2 and FE Fates).

I've been telling all of you for ages now, this is a 2016 release. You all put far too much faith in tales from retailer's arses.

Not quite what I was getting at, I think it's being "sent to die" regardless of when it comes out. It's going to drop without much fanfare regardless of the date, probably not much more than some social media mentions and a launch trailer. The audience is basically the same regardless of the date, even if some might wait 2-3 weeks to buy it due to the holiday.

It's doesn't have enough of a push behind it for it to compete with other games, so the release date is actually not all that important. The main issue releasing it right at Christmas is hoping people delaying their purchase due to the timing don't make it a long delay and just wait for a price drop or forget about the game.

The "placeholders" are still XSEED's target dates. They just aren't committed to them.

And XSEED has repeatedly assured everyone it's on target for 2015 (as recently as last week, I think). Wonder if that's still the case though.

Edit: From a week ago (when the placeholder was still the 15th):

We're pushing to make the existing placeholder date a reality, but won't announce anything until we're absolutely certain that it is. There's still a possibility it could slip back a week, or even farther (into early 2016), but we're doing everything in our power to get it out a.s.a.p. so all our prior assurances that this game WILL come out in 2015 don't wind up being dirty, dirty lies. ;)

Yeah. No matter when they launch it doesn't matter much. Only Kiseki and Falcom's fans are going to buy this anyway. It would be cool to have if for Christmas though!

Xseed is making it hard for me to buy their games with these last minute release dates.

Personally, I'm exactly the opposite. I'm still chipping away at the fall new releases for review and the farther this one can get away from that November mess the better.

I reckon I can give this one my full attention when it comes out, barring Atlus sneaking Yakuza 5 out at the same time.
