To be fair, it is user voted. He plays some good prog here and there, but the audience just doesnt go for that.

Schulz has some fantastic tracks in his set, but he crammed 53 in to 3 hours so there isn't much breathing space.

That is fine for stuff like Kearney and Indecent Noise, but I think the slightly slower stuff needs to sit around 8-10 tracks an hour.

Still love that proggy build up hour.

I think you would like A State of Trance episodes and probably Group Therapy as well. Give those a go. 2 hours each week of new music!

One thing, I noticed those tracks they liked (or you if you're reading this) were a bit old so i recommend listening to various vintages. The differences aren't huge (especially of you're new to it), but various trends have come and gone. There's a huge archive with ASOT episodes from 000 to 450, but the very old ones often have crap quality. It sucks because 058 and 130 have some amazing tracks. 080 is good though with decent audio quality. Episodes before 183 are in Dutch.
I usually choose episodes at random if you're wondering :p

Other than that though I can't count how many songs from all over trance I've found from mixed like these. Flaming June, Freefall, North Pole, Another You Another Me, Phobia, Who's Afraid Of 138, Land of Freedom... Really helped someone who was new :p

True they are a bit older, and the songs he did mention were a bit slower, not so much dance tunes, especially oceanlab and such. I think ASOT is the next step from there though so would be worth a listen. My old mixes in the OP would be pretty good for him but they got taken down from mediafire :(

I've seen Armin a bunch live, but I was super disappointed with his Echostage set. Enough that me and my buddy left early (a little after 2:00). Did it ramp up as the night went on? I haven't heard a ton of what he's put out over the past 18 months or so, so maybe his newer stuff just isn't for me.

Armin's live sets are very hit or miss. You have to be a fan of his current music if you dont want to be disappointed lol. Every once in a while he will have some great sets though. His Armin Only was amazing..

Overall I still like Armin's sets, but Gaia is where is at right now with Armin.

Next week theres already 2 Gaia sets. Can't wait. Still bitter that they never uploaded their ADE set.

Really dislike the original mix of the ASOT 700 anthem but damn the skypatrol remix is legit. I hope he uses the skypatrol version in his sets

The two people in The Blizzard are from a small town not very far from where I live (distances feel shorter when small towns are far between) and make me mad I'm not more invested in the scene here :/

I love their progressive (if that is the right term) sound. It's great when I've listened to too much uplifting. I love that they remixed a song with non-English vocals as well. Apart from Saltwater I don't know of any trance tracks with vocals that aren't English.

Edit: The track is quite uplifting though. I was thinking a bit of Piercing The Fog. I love the main synths 'pierce' through in the noisy build up.

Yeah this track is more uplifting like but I also love their more progressive sound.

These two guys seems like awesome people (I follow them on FB and TW) but sadly it's been awhile since their last track. Very talented duo, loved Kalopsia back then.

Well I'm happy I found this thread because I made one not too long ago about Trance music and no one posted so here it goes, I'll just copy+paste what I wrote to make it easier.

Hey GAF, I'm here today to try and see if there are any new good songs going on in the Progressive Trance scene. I used to love listening to Progressive Trance but stopped maybe like 3-4 years ago because of the new crap I was starting to hear from Armin Van Buuren's ASOT and other places.

I was able to recover my iTunes account recently, and found a ton of my old songs on there. I'm kind of getting the urge to get back into the scene after re-hearing some of them but am afraid I'll encounter the same "new" Crapgressive Trance I started to hear. Are there any good tracks that stay true to the classic Progressive Trance formula that you would recommend (they don't have to be new, they can be old ones too)? I'm dying to see if there are some out there that sound good.

Shivers is progressive? I think ASOT has a good mix of crap (I still enjoy it actually) and good songs. You could listen to it on Spotify and skip through the songs that you don't like. Not really sure what kind of sound you like though..

Gotta say I loved Gaia's set of course, seemed to be similar to their ADE set.

Unfortunately they had some mixing problems in some parts, especially the transition to Humming the Lights.
I wonder if Benno had some problems with his program, Armin seemed to look at his laptop a lot. (hey, atleast the mixing was live, lol)

The Gaia set might interest me, but a fair chunk of those have been played before and while I like Gaia, I prefer a little more variety with sets, not so producer heavy as Armin does these days.

Kearney should be good though.

Yeah the Gaia sets always just seem like his all of his tracks and it's done. On my end, I'll probably give the Aly & Fila set a listen.

First Gaia set was full Armin stuff, this one already had some diversity, even an Adam Beyer mashup.

I liked him a lot! Been waiting to see him since ultra for asot 600 or 550. It was funny because he opened with Levels, and then stopped midway and said "oh wait, wrong stage!" And turned on his Vandit sound haha

I'm reading that they made him stop his set midway ... Seems like someone died by drug overdose.
