Transformers: Devastation |OT| Rising in Disguise

Lol, the UI has some really annoying quirks. Earlier I was playing some Challenge Missions, and after beating one in Commander, I beat it in Warrior, and then in Scout. When I continued the story mode later, I was shocked to find chapter 5 super duper insanely easy. I checked the chapter select and found to my horror that I had beaten it in Scout difficulty, because somehow the difficulty I selected to play a Challenge Mission in carries over to the normal game settings. Wtf? :P

The character I used in Challenge mode carried over when I continued my campaign. It was at a boss fight too, so I was suddenly using a character that I wasn't accustomed to. Not a big deal since I was only playing on normal, but I don't think the two modes should carry over like that.

this game feels fucking amazing to play

I love how Platinum's action games are mostly variations on Bayonetta with their own twists. It makes it feel like they're making one long action series. Bayonetta 1+2, MGR, and now Transformers. I wonder if Nier 2 will have a similar Light/Heavy attacks with dodge offsetting + some slow mo mechanic set up (would be amazing if it did.)

And this one throws in TPS mechanics that feel pretty well done, almost Vanquish-esque at times. Valhalla RIP

Just a heads up for PC users. NVidia'a new drivers for the Battlefront Beta kill my performance in Transformers for some reason. At first I thought it was just a heavy section but then I saw the game hovering at like 40 FPS in the tech menus and like 50 at the title screen. Rolling back fixed it.

Granted, I'm playing at 4k so it might not hit everyone the same

Thanks for the heads up. I saw the new drivers, but since it wasn't related to any game I'm playing I didn't update yet. Seems like I made the right choice! :P

You should mention this in the game's Steam forum, and tweet Platinum about it.
Seems whatever you use to up the game to 4K isn't agreeing with the new driver files :X

I didn't set up anything, the game innately offers you 4k (at least it did for me), presumably by detecting DSR options? It doesn't offer anything between 1080 and 4k.

Well shit, that'll be annoying later on.

This game?

Are there anymore unlockable characters aside from the main five? I'm satisfied with who I can play as, but I wouldn't mind having more.

Ah my bad then. Still it's worth informing them about it. I think next updates will feature additional resolutions.

Is there any way of forcing a custom resolution in a config file? I would take a look myself but I don't have the game yet.

So not only did best buy get the game late to me, it was damaged. I just bought a different copy else where. Still no pre order bonus either. Jesus fucking christ.

Anyway, beat the game last night. Very satisfying, still wish we had a few more levels and more characters. Makes me really hopeful for the sequel because I'd love to see some characters from the movie show up and a level where you fight against Tripticon, have access to combiners etc, would be fucking awesome. I'd LOVE to see Platinum's take on Unicron.

Anyway, I already started replying this and I used spotify to stream the 1986 movie soundtrack. Works pretty god damned well! lol

i'm wondering if this is possibly the closest platinum have come to boss fights: the videogame. Seems to be the densest number of sick ass boss fights in a plat game so far.

Holy shit the music too. pity the story is an shameless saturday morning cartoon, but hey, it's transformers... and it's not like platinum doesn't do saturday morning cartoon games!

anyway having a surprising amount of fun with wheeljack. I'm not using the LB special moves very often, are they important?

Still haven't received my preorder bonus from Amazon. Emailed them and got a reply saying they were escalating my case to their "concerned team" and I can expect a reply in 5-6 days... really weird for Amazon. On the rare occasion I've had a preorder bonus issue with them, they've usually sent the code in their initial reply. Wonder if they were shortchanged on codes or something; did anyone here get their code from Amazon?

I found that in stage 1, the first
Devastator and arena/ring Megatron
was really challenging on Commander mode and required multiple retries to beat, whereas the last
Devastator
fight at the end of the level was pretty easy and I didn't die once. Part of it was me getting used to the mechanics, but I think also because of the weapons (I had A/S weapons at that point). I think I'll hold off on using my best weapons or upgrading them for now until I hit a difficulty brickwall.

Just in case I don't accidently screw myself in the future, do weapons only level up by synthesizing, or also in combat? I might just hold onto my weapons and money until I need to upgrade/lvl them up if possible.

Something I've been doing is upgrading my highest rank weapons with the D tier, skillless loot. Helps clear out inventory space so I'm not forced to sell, makes my high-rank weapons stronger and doesn't dump unwanted skills on to them.

Sad to think that megs has now been a tank longer then he had been a gun. :/

Well think of it this way: Say he turns into a gun, Starsceam picks him and uses a device to lock his transformation, then he destroys Megs.
I think Megs would much rather be a tank if he's gonna be stasis lock :P

The Soundwave fight in Chapter 6 was total Transformer geekgasm. I evaded an attack at close range and got into focus mode just as Frenzy was transforming into his arm launchers and it was so cool I got distracted and didn't attack anything and got a missile in my face. It was all worth it though. OMG.

One thing I really appreciate about this game is that while the environments are repetitive and boring as fuck, there is very conscious effort made to create every single combat encounter in some sort of unique way. There are also all sorts of stuff to break up the pace of the action with some platforming, some shooting, etc. Some work better than others but in general there's a lot of thought put into the actual gameplay design. I really like how the combat encounters all offer something new throughout the game. I haven't felt "oh I did this before" in any of the fights, even though they have the same enemies or reuse certain bosses. Something about the way the enemy waves are designed keeps it fresh.

Eh I think you're being a tad harsh on the environments. The city area goes thorough a night cycle and the lighting (from the sun) is really well done and the city looks nice in the different time lapses.
I do agree the level design should be better overall.

I don't think I'm being harsh. The game literally has two environments - the city and the ship. They definitely try their best to make the reuse less painful, but it's still very obvious. City in the day, City at dusk, City at night with rain, Underground Ship, Underground Ship with security upgraded. Same shit, different smell. I mean, I'm loving the game, but this is clearly very cheap reuse. :P

Weapons only level up through synthesis. Make a habit of selling off any junk weapons when you get to the Ark or after synthesizing a few. The game constantly throws new weapons at you and that list can get unmanageable very quickly.

I'm confused. Don't all games need to install?

I got the digital version, but was able to play once it hit about 35%.

I assumed the same, but this is the first PS4 game where I could play as soon as I put the disc in so I guess it just reads the disc? Or maybe it installs the rest of the game in the background while you play the first level, idk.

I think the only pro of him being a gun rather than a tank is it makes for a cooler toy.

I think it can add to the tension in the comic/cartoon if he is far more powerful then any normal gun due to the concentration of force (they almost pulled this off in the movie during the ark scene, but then messed it up by having one of the constructicons kill prowl with his normal gun).

Tried it for a few mins this morning before work on my PC. Runs great, looks great except for the screen tear I'm getting. I'm using a 144hz monitor but the game doesn't have a refresh rate option.

PS4 does install in the background, but it usually takes maybe five minutes before you can play IIRC.

Just beat the Final Boss.
The ending didn't quite turn it up to 11 as much as i would have liked, but non the less the fight was awesome.
This game kicked ass, gonna jump right into my second playthrough.
