Transformers: Devastation |OT| Rising in Disguise

Aahahah , it's just he usually blocks people who thank him about P* games he didn't direct(try to thank him for Vanquish,Rising or Bayo 2 rotfl) but looks like he made an exception for TF .

Maybe it's because his best bro Shibata was the lead designer for this.

Hmmm

When I tweeted him about the game he just said he thought the game was Cool.
At least he noticed me and didn't block me :D

Beat Chapter 3. The biggest negative for the game so far is something which I think everyone noticed long ago from the very first trailers and gameplay footage - the environment is severely lacking in terms of interesting art design and there's no variety whatsoever. There is the city and there is the underground Cybertronian ship/tunnel stuff. That's about it. Everything is reused a ton and it definitely gets really boring to look at after a while.

But whatever budget and resources they saved on the environments, they seem to have made up for in the characters. The animations are top notch, the models are solid, and it's so much fun to fight named Decepticons who not only move and attack in unique ways, but feel so true to their characters. There's a lot of detail and care put into the movesets of the characters, not just for an action game, but as fanservice to Transformers fans.

As far as the non-standard gameplay parts of the game goes, it's a bit of hit and miss so far. I really liked the Galaga style Insecticon turret mission, especially how it has specific waves and bombs and stuff. Really cool. I'm super happy they had an expanded sequence available as a Challenge Mission too. The vehicle chasing stuff is a mixed bag. The first one with Megatron on Longhaul was pretty great and felt tightly designed. The subsequent ones with the Sentry Bot and later with Thundercracker feel more poorly planned and wasn't super fun to play. It was fun to beat Thundercracker up though! The top down 2.5D thing is just baffling. It changed almost nothing about the gameplay except the camera angle. It would have been pretty cool if they made it a full Ikari Warriors style thing instead with unlimited ammo for range attack, but as it is, I'm not sure what the point was lol. The sidescrolling 2.5D battle with Blitzwing was pretty rad though. The controls were kinda loose and it's clear the engine wasn't super suited for it, but I think it's one of Platinum's better rail-vehicle action sequences, lol.

The actual battle with Blitzwing was super solid. Great use of his Triple Changer nature to put a twist on things. I dream of a battle like that with Sixshot. One day.... hopefully...

Yeah if this was a 'test the waters' kind of game, I do hope it does well enough for Acti to throw truckloads of cash to Platinum to make a more fleshed out game with more enviroments etc.
Basically something along the lines of what MG Rising had :P
Sixshot is one slick fight, but gimme secret boss Overlord and it'd be the best TF game evah.

Yeaaah I don't know about Grimlock, he plays pretty weird. I was using him in chapter 3, stopped at a section where he looks completely ridiculous, haha.

Try him out in the Challenge Missions instead. It's pretty fun to have a wrestling dinosaur character, but he's definitely more of an arena character than someone suited for normal gameplay. Lol. I had a blast using him in the first Challenge Mission.

I think this may actually be Platinums best looking game.

Not in terms of polys pushed or textures. But the art style is just so freaking good.

Agreed, the cel-shading in this game is ridiculously good. Makes me wish we had more HD cel-shaded games in the wild.

Man this game is a blast. Just beat chapter 1, and commander difficulty is a bit tougher than I thought, though I did manage to beat the second Devastator fight with no damage. Haven't switch off of Sideswipe yet, I like his ability a lot.

Fact is this game is good for a PSN + free purchase of the month, not something you'd pay full price for. It should have been a digital release like MGS: Ground Zeros.... considering it will probably be another two years before a sequel to this is out...wasted opportunity..

Best buy just told me to call Activision for the pre order code. LOL WTF.

They did the same to me. Buncha shitheads.

After beating it last night and having some time to digest it all, I honestly can't wait to more Devastation. Hopefully with a larger budget and playable Decepticons. The core game is stellar, while visual level variety is what seems to be lacking the most.

The PS4 version does have minor frame rate issues. I noticed during the big boss fights, the frame rate would cut in half but the majority of the time, it's a fairly rock solid 60. Really interested in hearing how the XBO version stacks up.

Anywho, it's time to take Optimus back to the fight and level his Autobot ass up so I can start tackling the other characters and difficulties. This one has many, many hours of enjoyment left.

You seem to be virtually the only one in this thread that thinks that. Did you complete the game?

Cleared on normal.
Someone please tell me that doing it on hard unlocks a Nova Prime fight...

Great fucking game. Now I have to try out the other characters outside of Optimus.

Confession Time: I had the privilege of playing TFD prerelease, beating the story on Commander & Magnus difficulties and clearing most of the challenges. Still couldn't wait to get this game on launch day, which speaks volumes on how much I like it. Praying this does well enough to justify a sequel w/playable Arcee and Decepticons.

It's a slow morning at the office so I thought I'd share a few tips/notes with y'all:

<snip>
Thanks for taking the time to put that list together. Lots of good stuff in there.

Thinking of picking this up as I wait for Bloodborne DLC to drop. How's the Platinum difficulty? Anyone grabbed that yet?

This is why Platinum is the best at what they do right now.

All the movement, the fluidity, that synchronized vehicle mode, the dodges. It's like playing a cutscene. And I'm on normal
Bumblebee akimbo sword comboing the fuck out of a group of Decepticons feels so fucking ace.

Anybody else just transform back and forth because it looks/sounds so cool? haha
...*raises hand*

It's nice to have dodge offset as a central mechanic again after it was nearly reduced to a novelty in TW101 and MGR.

Transformation combos are hype as hell. I totally didn't anticipate how dynamic they'd make the combat. It's like Platinum said "Bayonetta's panther was cute. Now let's see what happens when we plug transformations into the combat system proper. Please enjoy getting your face kicked in by all this awesome!"

And yeah, I'm loving the ranged weapons. I was kind of wary about them after MGR, where they slowed down combat too much, but once again Platinum found a way to improve on a feature they've used before. The guns are as accurate and responsive as you'd hope. Nice variety too.
Guns were always essential to Transformer combat so they would have to do so anyways.

Took a bit of convincing to get over the $50 hump, but I did it.

Started on Commander, because that's what you do, and I felt completely comfortable with the controls in half an hour. It's a beautiful thing. Even SS ranked the second battle with Megatron and decided to call it a night.
I'm rather surprised by the lack of metal-based ranking. In a game that is all about metal.

Fucking Best Buy. Went looking for a copy while grocery shopping today, part of GCU, so obviously went to BB. Had none out on the floor. Fucking rows of Tony Hawk 5, but Transformers in sight. Had to hunt down an employee who said there were two in the back. So, wound up satisfied in the end. Annoying to see stacks of a piece of shit like Pro Skater on shelves, while this has two copies buried in the back. Sure that's great for sales.

Any way. Game seems cool so far. Pretty amazing soundtrack.

I have no real connection to Transformers (except the movies, and we all know how those turned out), so I didn't know if I would care for this that much.

Just played for about an hour and this game is rad as fuck. Glad I bought it, so much fun.

After exploring every inch of Mission 1, I can say that I actually do enjoy its mazelike design. It's fun to blaze through in vehicle mode and comb for hidden items and areas.

How good is that soundtrack though? As I was replaying Mission 1 yesterday and idling on the Ark menus, it suddenly occurred to me that I really liked what I was hearing. Platinum's consistent record of choosing the right collaborators to give their games an appealing and characteristic sound is one of Platinum's greatest strengths as a developer. I've noticed a pattern. The best artists and companies working in audiovisual media, whether it's movies or games or something else, tend to respect the importance of sound design and music. They recognize that what the audience hears shouldn't be a generic interchangeable background to the flashy visuals, but an integral part of the experience that can greatly enhance the total effect.

Hammers and Sniper Rifles are OP as fuck.
I'm going to up the difficulty to Commander, because right now Optimus tears through everything with his battle hammer and ice sniper in a matter of seconds.

I like the music being digitally muffled when you pause it. Attention of detail to the imperfections of all this sci-fi stuff.

You exaggerate....

All kidding aside, that Ultra Magnus gif got me thinking how DOPE would a sequel be loosely based on the '86 movie? You've got a team of players on both sides and multiple settings to play with already. Hell, even if it stayed Autobots only you'd have a hell of a team: Ultra Magnus, Hot Rod, Arcee, Springer, Kup, Grimlock (no fucking Wheelie though!).

Man, the first level could have you playing as Optimus/Megatron in the lead up to their final battle as one of those "start with all of the powers before we take 'em away" intros... ah, to dream.

I ordered online, left to get some food before I got the order ready for pick up email because why would be able to place the order if they didnt have it. Got to the store an hour later, they literally told me that I should checked my email more often because my order was a "no pick." The item wasnt at the store, and they said I wasnt charged. Got home to place another order for a different store, see that my reward points havent been returned and my card was charged.

Turns out they blatantly lied to my face about the order being canceled on top of being condescending, it was placed on backorder until the 15th. Got to switch to a different store, but man is that one of the shittiest Best Buys ive ever seen.

Damn, I've been listening to the soundtrack all day and Soundwave's phase 2 theme is so good.

Motormaster, Soundwave, Kickback, Protect Wheeljack, Shockwave, and Megatron's themes are my favorite tracks in the game.

Finished it on normal. That was super fun, and definitely going to have a go on hard. It's more Bayonetta than it is rising. Robot-time abuse make it so.

What do you gotta do to get quality weapons? All the drops I ever got were D's or C's. I did a challenge on hard, got an A rank, got D-level loot. Eh.

Also try to find a weapon with +Rarity or +WeaponDrop (sorry can't remember the exact names ATM) and have it equipped or synth it into one of your existing weapons. You don't have to use said weapon, just have it on you.

Yeah, Raredrop+ and WpnDrop+.
I just started playing on commander today, but it didn't take too long before I got this thingy.

I upgraded it a little, but it was still pretty beastly when I got it. I don't want to upgrade it too much and run out of synthesis tries when it gets maxed out if I find a skill I want.

Also, I got a tech...thing that says weapon drop up +50%.

Right now the only thing I really want is that I kind of want to map vehicle transforms (as an attack) to a different button than dodge, and I want to be able to double-tap dodge into vehicle. But that's just me getting used to a new control system.

I've died twice on normal which is kind of embarassing, but oh well

Normal is no joke. Chapter 4 spoilers
Menasor kicked my ass all over the place
, and the final level is all kinds of rough.

So we've all seen this autobot insignia thing that brings us back to the ark.

But what is this that's tucked away in an unreachable area?
http://i.imgur.com/JqsR4ml.jpg .
Pls tell me sikret decepticreep charater unlocks

I saw those too, they're in a few areas. One can hope

On another note, final chapter is absolutely mental.

Oh my bad, it's just a Decepticon Flag. I shot one before, I just got a little too excited with it being close to the autobot one.

I feel like an idiot, but is there an area to see the rarity of an item in the synthesis menu, or should I just work off the item rank etc?

Also is there any way to mass synthesis items in one swoop? I'd be nice to press x on a bunch of stuff and feed it to my Axe, or something

I think item rank is the best indicator. Haven't found a way to synthesize multiple items at the same time myself.
