Transformers: Devastation |OT| Rising in Disguise

That's tempting (I've played Bayonetta 2 and Metal Gear Rising like 1,000 times, so I like fast characters), but I almost wonder if I should start with a slower character so it doesn't seem like a downgrade when I go to other characters, lol.

From what I can see in videos, it looks like all of the characters are fast in combat. It's mainly exploring the world where their difference in speed seems to show.

Yeah they all feel nice honestly. My two favorites are definitely Bumblebee and Wheeljack. I love Wheeljack's look and how he shoots a rocket before you slam into the opponent when you do a vehicle transformation combo. His Devastation technique is hilarious too, how he just makes a bomb on the spot.

Inevitably though I need to get better weapons for Wheeljack, right now my Bumblebee is devastating. :)

So I decided I was going to do Wheeljack for my next run and what should drop near the end of my bumblebee Magnus run?

That's only the tip of the iceberg D:

You can really start with any character. I'd just recommend against Grimlock at first since he plays a bit differently than the rest.
Yeah, even from my cursory look at the game I can tell that Grimlock is a slow powerhouse more suited for advanced play in challenge missions, etc.

I listened to Fight Theme 2 in addition to Fight Theme 1. Also excellent.

I'm also impressed by how gorgeous the characters look. Like Rising, I don't think I'll mind the low-key and recycled backgrounds. They're functional and don't distract from the action dominating the center of the screen.

Feeling eager to try this. Arrives Tuesday, but I'll more realistically have free time to game on Thursday.

Potentially dumb questions - do all of the weapon's traits just apply for you as a whole in general or only when that weapon is currently in play?

And does anyone really notice the Synthesis UP+ skill do much..? Maybe it's because the one I have is lvl2 but it feels like almost nothing.

So synthesizing weapons doesn't increase the rank -- a D weapon won't go up to a C or a B even if you're increasing the power of the weapon?

Not that it really matters -- but it makes sorting weapons more difficult when you have these super-duper good D rank weapons that you have to remember not to destroy.

Edit: General question for everyone -- Does everyone always use the Vehicle stinger move at the end of a combo? Is their a reason not to?

Man I hear nothing but good things about this game. Can't wait to get my hands on it. need some character action in my life.
This is the first stylish character action game from Platinum on PS4/X1, is it not? Also a rare good use a license, similar to the Arkham games. That's why I'm in, even though I'm not a Transformers fan. I appreciate when devs make good use of iconic characters and concepts.

EDIT: Forgot about Korra!

Yea you can't increase the rank and each rank has a level cap. So that "super duper good D Rank weapon" is capped out at lvl 5 and is actually a piece of shit.

Well Korra was on PS4/X1 too but this looks like a much more fulfilling game. I'm not a fan of transformers either but I need that sweet platinum action in my life.

Do skills and T.E.C.H stack? So if have a weapon with an atk+4 and atk+3 is it just going to take the atk+4 or do I have a eapon with an atk+7? This also applies to T.E.C.H?

also, what's with the T.E.C.H in general? I failed a 10k gamble and ended up with an amazing +50% to rare weapon drops and +2 to dodge frames. But it was a failure and yet when I hit the orange, I'm sometimes given crap.

Edit: i had 200k and spammed the gamble event without bothering to hit the orange but, wow I got some amazing T.E.C.H! Level 6 dodge, +400 max hp, weapon drop 80% damn.

Everything stacks.

I just finished the game.

I've been a Transformers fan since I was a little kid. My dad bought me my first Transformer. It was Bumblebee on a card with the small little clamshell covering him. Since then I never looked back.

I can say, definitively, this is my favorite video game I've ever played. I absolutely love it. All the encounters and dialogue between characters made me so happy and brought me back to being a kid, playing with whatever Transformers I had in the basement. The end credits are absolutely fantastic. Even the goodies unlocked after completing the game once. I won't spoil what they are because I busted out laughing and was smiling like an idiot going through the menus.

The thing I love most about sins game is that as much of a competent and great Transformers game it is, it's just as good a brawler/character action game. I'll say this without my opinion being slanted: if you like character action games then play it. Buy it, rent it, do whatever. Just play it. It's a ton of fun.

That's it. 'Til all are one.

I'm not a Transformers fan (not yet, anyways -- maybe this game will make me one), but your post has me mad hyped (my copy arrives Tuesday). Like I said earlier, I think it's great whenever a dev does justice to the source material, capturing its spirit and fully utilizing the iconic characters and concepts. It's clear they made this game with love.

Can someone confirm whether there's a model viewer? I really, really like the Devastator model in this game.

I'm kinda getting miffed at higher levels when enemies don't get staggered by attacks as much or start auto-parrying randomly to throw you off your game... the Triple Changer dude is nearly impossible to pick up into a proper combo, which is okay, dude's a tank I guess... still, it's kinda irritating having to dodge offset combos being the only way to get a transform attack on the sucker. Oh well, he still drops pretty easily.

Menosaur was a real pain in the ass though since he no sells pretty much everything.

The model viewer in this game will make you shit rainbows.

Blitzwing just doesn't stagger easily. His regular three hit melee combo has super armor (even on Warrior difficulty), but that's just a quirk of fighting him. You have to be ready to dodge at any moment.

Have I mentioned on GAF that I love model viewers?

(Why yes, yes I have)

Model viewers are the best. They add so much value to a purchase for me. They're like a separate product from the game itself, in my eyes. You have the game, where you control the characters and overcome challenges, and then you have a virtual toy collection where you can appreciate all of the design and artistry that goes into the stars of the show.

Happy to hear this game follows suit. Actually, Platinum in general is great about putting model viewers in their games.

I don't mind super armor but I kinda feel like Weaves should always do something, even against fatties like devestator or menasaur. Sigh

That's true for the combiners, though you can interrupt Blitzwing if you get the stomping vehicle attack (dependent on the combo used, I think).

Vehicle attacks are still hugely useful against the combiners, especially if you get the three hit donut attack.

The weapons go up to LVL 50? Jesus Christ, I thought 10 was the max, and I've yet to find a weapon at that lvl after clearing the game already.

He's such a pain in my ass. I'm still practicing and picking up the mechanics, and so i wanted to clear out most of the challenge missions on warrior mode before moving back to the story for my next run through on commander. every time he showed up i got absolutely stomped.

You guys are making Blitzwing sound like Abhorrent Beast in Bloodborne. He was Super-armor City. He could be staggered... briefly... after many, many hits... but for the most part it was dodge or die.

Yes thank you, I was so used to staggering enemies with my reversals, or rushdown combos, and he just wouldnt unless i hit him with the grappling hook. that throws him off consistently im pretty sure.

I know ground pounding vehicle enders will affect him, but yeah, not much else does. Just gotta be ready to dodge.

Started playing last night, love the combat so satisfying. Started on commander difficulty but couldn't beat devastator kept dying with devastator at around 1/3 health left (turns out I was missing using the super-move, which you don't learn the controls till later). So switched to normal and breezed through him...

Higher difficulties give you better weapons.

With the stats whats best ones to level up?

Reposting in the hope that anyone in Europe can help me.

Finally received this from Amazon.es, but it didn't come with the preorder code for Nemesis Prime and co. Contacted them but they say they aren't aware of any promotion at all. Did the preordr bonuses apply only to the US? If not, did anyone in Europe get the game from Amazon? Should I contact Activision?

Not going to lie, kind of bummed about it.

Has anybody doing higher difficulties found high rank versions of Prime's Axe or his Ion Blaster? I was a little disappointed that I couldn't use them throughout the game.

Although I am rocking an A rank version of Menasaur's Sword right now, that's pretty fun.

Beat the game and find out ;)

So, I started playing Friday. First things first:

THIS GAME JUST OOZES G1 ATMOSPHERE!! The sounds, music, and of course the looks.

I started on Scout difficulty, having problems with the controls, missed some Kremzeeks, couldn't parry worth a shit, not using vehicle mode like I should, getting my ass kicked by Constructicons and not bothering with synthesizing.

But halfway through Chapter 2, i discovered how to do an uppercut by pressing a combination of buttons. This enabled me to start messing around with juggling, something I always liked in DMC.

Is also found out that double jumping when in vehicle mode, transforms you mid-air and while in mid-air, your descent would slow if you'd aim your ranged weapon.

These 2 were game changing for me.

So I deleted my save, started over and nailed vehicle mode, vehicle slam (and the charge afterwards), parry, juggling and using ranged weapons in close combat.

When at first I had to fight 2 constructicons, I was like:

On the second run, I was a LOT more confident, to the point of cockiness and was like:

I'm still not an expert, but the combat is very deep. Since this is my first Platinum game, I still have a BIG way to go. But at least I can kick some ass in style without mashing the controller like I did when I first started playing.

Having fun with synthesizing too. I'm still only playing on Scout since ther'es a lot to discover about the fighting mechanics. Once I master it, I'll go on a higher difficulty. :)

Loving it so far and found all the Kremzeeks, flags and Laserbeaks so far.

Yup, you do get them as drops. I've seen axes of every elemental type and then some and had the Ion Blaster as a drop 2 times so far (halfway in my second playthrough).

Why is the first
ancient Insecticon Skrapnel
also the hardest of the three?
Bombshell and Kickback are so easy in comparison. When I had to fight all three of the same time, I was like "Oh boy", and sure enough, Skrapnel was always the one to do me in. Until I finally kicked his ass obviously.

This song is hype as hell.

I have this game ordered on Amazon but keep waffling on it because I'm still addicted to MGSV/MGO3, yet I have Super Mario Maker unopened, and Devastation and Wooly World on the way. Too much of a good thing.

i was in a similar situation. just finished wooly world, haven't started mario maker yet and wanted to try MGO next asap. decided to go for TF Devastation. no regrets, this game is hype at max. level.

amazing post. i haven't watched TF since i was a lil kid. this brought back some of the TF hype i had years ago. i never expected to play a great game in 2015 with this license. i must be dreaming.

Can anyone tell me how is the PS4/X1 version compared to the PS360 version?
I am thinking of playing this on my PS3 as I haven't made the next-gen leap yet.
Is it still pretty good or are we talking about big differences?

Is it me, or is the second mission in Challenge Mode where you fight all the Constructicons at once hell on earth on Commander difficulty?

All of them have a shitload of health and they're constantly wailing on you. I'm just trying to do some combos and I have to keep dodging maniacally to avoid getting hit.

One other thing, something that annoys me about the "gun to face -> vehicle slam" combo is that it keeps homing on a completely different enemy. So for example, I shoot Mixmaster and it gives me the prompt to follow up on him with a vehicle attack, but when I do it, I go flying onto Long Haul who was behind me or something.

No big differences, thanks to the art style and minimalist environments. You'll get the same experience on the PS3 as even us PC players. You're good

I've been searching the thread for PC impressions and found that its performance is "solid". That doesn't sound glowing. Is it a shoddy port?

Is it just me, or isn't this listed in the game? I only found out because there wasn't such a basic move as an uppercut.. I figured that surely this game must have it and found out by pressing Triangle + Circle.

It's definitely covered somewhere in the game. If nowhere else, it's in the move list.

Lolwut? Solid is a good thing. It is pretty much the opposite of shoddy.

Ehhh solid usually means that it runs smooth and steady without hitches and framerate dips you know.....

If it runs well, that's great. I saw a good deal on it so I'll prolly grab it later today.

Sorry for interpreting "solid" as a lukewarm response. If I ask someone if a movie or video game is good and they say it's "solid", I'll interpret that as "fine".

Excellent news.

I'm going to bench Prime for now and play through with some different characters in hopes they will drop.
