Transformers: Devastation |OT| Rising in Disguise

wat

The ultimate gauge? Or something else?
No, the actual Transformers logo. Has three build-up tiers to it and once it reaches its max limit (blinking red), there's a substantial difference in attack speed + damage + other differences like the aforementioned spinning lariat quirks. You wind it up by hitting enemies as well as proccing Prime Time; kind of functions like an obscure style meter of sorts in other words.

WTFFFFFFF? How is this the first time I'm hearing about this feature?

I know I bang on about this, but that's the Platinum Difference™.

i......i'm just a scout after all.

I always learn from you! :-D

(No pressure, tho)

Really, the core thrill in Platinum's games for me is the simple gameplay loop of fast-paced dodging/parrying and counterattacking. There's a lot to go alongside that, but I just find myself gravitating to the basics for whatever reason.

Yep, I'm the same way. In Metal Gear Rising I could endlessly circle-dodge around people, launch them with a running slide, zandatsu as they tumble over me in slow-mo, etc. Rinse, repeat. Platinum (like MGSV, like the Souls games, like many Nintendo games) just nails that GAME FEEL I crave so much.

Also, two gunplay-related nuances that are worth repeating in case you missed others in here bringing 'em up before: if you line up a headshot on a (durable) enemy, there's a likelihood you'll trigger a vehicle attack off of it and you can aim your gun after a dodge for some Max Payne-esque bullet time hijinx.

Wait, is the Autobot logo thing what's called "Overdrive"? I've seen TECH that buffs Overdrive charge speed, but I never connected it to anything.
I believe so, yes.

Working my way through chapter 2 now, just beat
Bombshell
and absolutely loving all of it.

I just get B ranks and such for fights so have a lot to learn still but damnit does it feel good to wreck a Decepticon!

Uh buuuuh. I had no clue. I'm about to beat the mess out of some fools so I'll test it out. So crazy.

Oh my god so this is why the 360 attack sometimes ends with a vehicle finisher. *slaps forehead* I was not putting 2 and 2 together at all, but I KNEW there was a nuance in the combat system I was missing.

Platinum maintains its luster forever.

Deepest lor...huh...gameplay.

Just played this through again using only Optimus and have to say I love this game even if the camera is rather bad sometimes. Also this is only game besides MGR where I have dropped all other audio to 5 except music because holy shit the soundtrack is good. Doing dropkicks on Megatrons face in
SPACE
is really cool.

Innately has a fairly high chance of applying stun / weapon elemental effects, hitbox for it is deceptively large and once you crank up the Transformers icon in the top-left corner, increased probability of knockback + a follow-up vehicle attack too. It's a beastly skill.

Oooh nice.

The crit chance from the Crit+ skill might stack additively. With Crit+ lvl 5 giving a 25% chance, stacking 4 of them might just give an overall 50% damage boost.
Did some not-so-scientific testing with Wheeljack vs the first Devastator fight, Commander difficulty, using two Burn Sniper Rifles with similar stats.

Weapon 1, 3277 damage, consistently killed Devastator 10 times in 21 shots.
21 shots = 68817

Weapon 2, 3261 damage, 4x Crit+ Lvl 5, consistently killed Devastator 10 times in 14 shots.
Assuming the Crit+ chances are independent, 4x Crit+ Lvl 5 should be around a 68% chance to crit. With 14 shots, thats an average of 9-10 shots that deal 1.5x damage
9 shots crit, 5 normal damage = 60328.5
10 shots crit, 4 normal damage = 61959
So with an expected crit distribution, I shouldn't be killing Devastator 10 times consistently with only 14 shots.

Instead, having a 100% crit chance with 14 shots is 68481 damage which is a lot closer to Weapon 1's output.

Ooooh nice.

So, I finally got around to giving the game a try. I entered the pre-order code on PSN and it was accepted, but when I start the game I don't see any new options. How do I use it?

You access it after progress though the game a little more.

When you are far enough to return to the Ark to change equipment and characters, you'll be able to select the other skins in the character selection menu.

Has anyone tried the last-gen versions here, out of curiosity? The game throws so much shit at you in some challenges and on higher difficulties that I wonder how they manage to hold up. :P

Does anyone know what the max level drop for a weapon is? Playing through on Magnus and weapons are only dropping at around lvl 8, is there a connection between your character level and weapon level drop?

Uh DmC, Bayo and the forever awesome Vanquish ran on last gen consoles, didn't they hold up and have intense gameplay?...and this game is less graphically intensive.

Wonderful 101 is more intense than this.

Two of those are 30fps, Bayonetta PS3 is an infamous disaster of a port and TW101 dramatically drops frames far more often than it manages to keep stable at 60. So it's not really a crazy question :P

Yeah, I had to switch back to Sideswipe until I have some ridiculously overpowered melee TECH I can equip on Wheeljack or something.

Feels like I'm letting down an old friend, but it just seems so much harder to build up double vehicle attacks with him, his Ultimate feels like it will be more valuable on higher difficulties, and Sideswipe's traversal speed is like 1/3 faster which makes everyone else feel like molasses

I'm a little disappointed that so many encounters can be cheesed with chaining vehicle dash attacks, but that's not a major complaint

Is there a way to QUICKLY level up your stats in the ark? Waiting while those bars get filled up is an utterly ridiculous waste of time.

Yeah and Vanquish is sub-hd and barely runs at 30.

The problem with Sideswipe is that his ultimate attack sucks balls.

Pretty good. Almost no dips in terms of framerate.

The only weird thing to me was that they couldn't actually use the main transformers theme. Any reason for this? It's not licensed, is it?

like holy shit trying to fight soundwave and shockwave at the same time is insane, beams everywhere, plus ravager and laserbeak just pounding you every second. totally insane

The highest a weapon can be upgraded to is level 50. Not sure what the max drop is though, since even vanilla SS rank gear rarely goes above level 10 - 12 from what I've seen so far.

so i was fighting this boss when two hammer guys wacked me from behind out of nowhere, because why not. this game doesn't give a shit.

i wonder if it's a separate trophy list from current gen.

Pay attention to the audio cues. Because of the sound that plays every time an enemy is about to attack, TFD is easily the PG game that least suffers from out of screen shenanigans. PG really tried this time to let you know when you're about to be hit, no matter what. It still happens, but man we've come a long way since Metal Gear Rising. :P

Do B and A rank gear drop quite regurlarly later on?

Do D and C rank gear stop dropping entirely?

Im trying to decide if i should bother upgrading all my A/Bs... while ignoring/selling my Ds, perhaps use Cs as food for A/Bs...

Or am i way off on all this?

Loving the loot game... getting a Rare drop feels so good.

Highest I've seen drop on Prime difficulty is 15. You need to synthesize them up if you want higher.

C and D rank weapons are weak, A and B are always stronger. You can't increase a weapon's rank but you can strengthen its stats.
Just sell or synth C and D rank weapons to your A and B rank ones.

It's a shame that the Dark Star Saber (DLC weapon) is only C-rank, having a ranged melee attack is awesome.

Hehe.

But seriously, I was on my phone so that's the short story, but as far as I've played the PS3 version of Devastation it runs pretty smooth. There are times where the loading times take a bit longer than they should, but overall it's a solid version. I was somewhat hesitant buying it (okay, the current gen versions are sold for € 45) because well, just € 30 for a new release would be a good reason to sound the alarms, but no. Even in the crazier challenge missions the framerate seems stable. Visually it's not that spectacular; character models are fine though. If someone wants to try the PS3 version, you can buy it.

Also 31 trophies for the PS3 version.

Rocking a Dark Star Saber right now with A-ranking; you can dish out some serious damage with ranged sword slashes.
