Transformers |OT| Transform and roll out...

I'm really looking forward to him. He looks so good. :)

A little fun comparison here.
G1 Takara, Masterpiece Takara, X-Transbots Apollyon, DX9 Mightron, MakeToys Despotron.

Pretty astonishing to see how far we've come in thirty odd years. As a kid I never really noticed how totally unlike the animation models the toys looked - except when it came to Megatron. That old figure always looked insane to me.

I believe YouTube toy reviewer Brave is making a movie about the creation of Apollyon. Excited to see it if it ever comes out: kind of a fascinating toy that must have a fascinating tale behind him.

My only gripes with Despotron are that the legs are solid black rather than Apollyon-style charcoal grey, and that the figure will ship without an included stock and silencer.
HOW CAN STAND IN FRONT OF THE MIRROR AND PRETEND I'M STARSCREAM WITHOUT A STOCK AND SILENCER

Really excited to see MakeToys' upcoming MP style Optimus Prime. I've almost pulled the trigger on MP10 so many times, but he feels fundamentally off somehow, and just doesn't sing to me.

I have to assume that, like me, you never owned or came across Ironhide or Ratchet, then. :)

Megs is packin'.

That picture is unfortunate as hell. I mean, yeah, the original toy has a rather suggestively placed and shaped trigger, but that pic makes it look like the cannon is protuding from that. :D

I just compared my CW Megs and it makes you appreciate how amazing it is that it holds up well against those, for a fraction of the price. I personally even prefer it as I like the tank mode better than the gun.

This is my favorite interpretation of G1 Megs. It retains his bot form perfectly (with some added details here and there that are not out of place), and turns him into a form which fits him better IMO than a gun. I love the pistol but Tank Megs is a cooler design to me.

I remember mentioning how TF Devastation's Megs was based on the CW one, and people arguing it. I mean, as if the cannon going all the way through the turret was a common tank design, let alone it even has the red button to fire the spring loaded missiles. :D

Speaking of TF:D, the thread has been recently bumped due to Saur publishing three videos on it and its mechanics. I haven't watched them yet and I have to do a couple of things first, but I don't doubt they'll be awesome.

The entire OST is amazing, especially if you're a metal fan. My favorite is Shockwave's, here it is (linking to halfway through the video because the track has two instrumentations depending on his mode during the fight and the good one is the second).

The part that kicks in around 2:27 in particular is just amazing, especially during the fight. I'm fully expecting Saito's next game to be the most metal thing ever experienced by mankind, considering his track (heh) record.

No - I was too young. My first bot was Blurr, and it was only rarely that I found the pre-movie characters in other people's collections. Never saw them in stores. But while my Transformer toys didn't always look like the animation models on the show, my child brain never wondered why my Galvatron was grey/i]. Only when I finally saw a Megatron in the wild did I experience that horrifying dissonance. Also Ultra Magnus. I recieved him as a gift, and from day 1, I could never understand why he appeared to be nothing more than a suit of armour for a solid white Optimus Prime. That confusion that toy begat forever made Ultra Magnus less cool than he should have been in my mind. As an adult he's an awesome character with a great design, but I'll likely never want to add him to my MP bots.

Re TF Devastation, I actually jumped back in a few days ago. That game offers so much content. I beat the story on Prime, currently taking on Prime challenge mode; but now that my Optimus is fully leveled up, I'm going to go back and run through the story with each of the other bots who I barely touched (because the game irritatingly punishes players for mixing it up). Especially looking forward to getting my teeth into Bumblebee and Grimlock.

While not equally doing so, all characters still level up even if you only focus on 1 character.

Yeah, which is a huge relief. But they could all use a bit of a boost and some fun weapon choices. Finally got SS Starscream's Null-rays tonight. Love those things!

I suggest doing so anyway. He might be my favorite MP aside from MP-10. And I'm only lukewarm on the character in general. It's just such a massive, well-designed figure that it completely won me over in-hand. Love it.

In Spain Transformers were sold (and still are!) at a price entirely incongruous with our economy, so I only ever got the five minibots that are Blaster's pals in the comics (Cosmos, Powerglide, Warpath, Seaspray and Beachcomber), plus Kickback (the insecticon). I loved them all to death. Most of my TF fandom comes from the Marvel comic, the only comic I collected as a kid, and which I own the entire run of.

Oh, and as for why I commented on Ratcher / Ironhide. They literally have no heads.

At least the box art was honest about it.

Edit: Let's try again with those images.

When pre-orders go up, this guy is straight up bought! Thanks so much for posting this!

According to TFW2005, BBTS was all "Say no more, fam!" If that's the case there's an awesome chance he'll stay in stock like the Asian reissue of Hasbro Masterpiece Optimus Prime.

Struck Titans Return gold today; my local Target had the full first wave of everything but Voyagers, so I picked up Hardhead, Skullsmasher and Terri-Bull. The Headmasters is a gimmick that I was pretty down on when they announced them, but I'm having a great time with them in-hand.

The only headmaster I ever appreciated was Fortress Maximus when my parents got him for me back in 1988. All the other headmasters had shoddy designs and weren't that appealing to the eye..

Oh hey More than Meets the Eye 56 is out
First 2 pages were a great overview of Red Alert's character and I like how his breaking down of Fort Max's dialog isn't the first suspicious thing he's done a breakdown of at least on that day.

Outrigger is a bro, hope we get to see more of him. Prowl being a jackass was glorious, and Sentinel ranting about the state of Cybertron now was impressive too. All in all a good issue but it seems we gotta wait some more months before getting into Season 3 @o@

Yeah the new headmasters are great some of the best transformer toys to come out in years.

Toysrus.ca got some Titans Return stock in. I can finally get something without paying an arm and leg for shipping/import fees. Ordered Galvatron and Skullsmasher. So excited.

I'm not a fan of how
much of a comically evil republican Sentinel is being portrayed now.

Well he's always been an asshole
he DID plan to kill off Nominus and a number of other vile things while he was part of the ruling Senate.

So, Chroma Squad is 3.5$ in an IndieGala bundle and I've always wanted to try it. Really fun game, even better than I expected so far! I couldn't resist coloring and naming my all-female ranger team like this:
For bonus points, Windblade is the leader, Chromia is the heavy hitter, Velocity is the scout, Nautica is the technical specialist, and Firestar is the support. I was this close to making the support a pink ranger named Arcee (pink is the default support color, even) but it didn't look that good with Nautica and I didn't want to leave her out.

You're not a fan of how he's evil or nor a fan of how he's a republican?

That he's another boring Republican villain. They seem so...cheap nowadays. As in, that's the best some writers can come up with when they want to show us how bad a character is. Especially since we've had similar villains before.

It's kind of the Seinfeld effect here: he's pretty much the archetipal
"right wing authoritarian fanatic" villain in regards to the transformers mythos, even before IDW
. I completely agree that in recent years this trope has been overplayed and I'm not excited about having him back at all.

Fortunately, it seems that the entire Titans Returns arc is going to be quite short, barely two issues per collection (of which 56 was the first, so only one more to go). That's the advantage of having three concurrent ongoings and running the event on all three, I guess.

The bit about
him being a Head/TitanMaster
is so out of left field, especially considering
his conservative views
. That one bit, obviously introduced to sell his Titan Returns toy, may be the most jarring out of the entire deal.

For those interested; Toysrus.ca has a few Titans Return and Combiner Wars bots, including complete sets, on sale. Fort Max is like $60 off and $10 off shipping for him. And BBTS just got some Wave 2 Titans Return stock in. Should have waited another week for Galvatron and Skullsmasher lol. On the plus side they'll be here tomorrow.

Oh, didn't know he was like that before. Before his appearance in Megatron: Origin he was just a name to me and he didn't seem like that bad a guy before.

For those who are still looking for Unite Warriors Computron, it's eligible for international shipping @ Amazon.co.jp and they're still accepting pre-orders. The Amazon.co.jp listing shows a price of 12,350 yen at the time of writing, but during checkout VAT gets removed so the actual price is 11,435 yen before shipping. Release date is the 27th so it will most likely be delivered to your doorstep next week on Monday or Tuesday through DHL.

Full list of Transformers eligible for international shipping @ Amazon.co.jp.

Also coming out on the 27th are Shockwave+Cancer, Blurr, Scourge and MP Delta Magnus. I'll be receiving my Blurr from Amazon.co.jp next week. :)

Wasn't him already quite right wing / fascistic back then? I remember very little about his role in Megatron: Origin, but then again being opposite Megatron during his rise to power might make his actions look justifiable.

However, at least as early as Chaos Theory he was the senate's lackey, and the pre-war senate is basically the prototype Orwellian government. He was also falsely appointed by the senate as a Prime, and if I remember correctly even oversaw the Clampdown (martial law) himself.

Funnily enough even the wiki is poking fun at his comeback; the photo of his current appearance in his page has the following caption:
BECAUSE YOU DEMANDED IT! SENTINEL PRIME IS BACK!

You didn't? Well somebody did.

Does anyone have any opinion on Hardhead Titans Return figure?

Haven't bought transformers in ages and this would be my first in a long time. It just looks really cool and I remember the g1 toy.

Hardhead and Blurr are my favorite of the first wave.

Hardhead is so much fun; I almost want to buy a couple more of him to paint up and use as a squad of generic Autobot troopers.

Waiting on Blurr till I can get him in Brainstorm form, since I kinda hate G1 Blurr's design.

I just bought it last week and I love him. I got him, Skullcruncher and Blurr, and I think he may be my favorite of the three. I'm very pleased with Titans Returns so far, the headmaster figures are surprisingly articulated for their size (ball-jointed heads and arms!). It's kind of ironic that they're more articulated than many G1 full Transformers. :D

Back to Hardhead, he looks great in both modes, is easy and fun to transform, and the shoulder cannon has quite a bit of posability in that it looks great in bot mode no matter if it's deployed, retracted, or hand-held, especially if you pose the free hand as supporting it from below as if it was a rifle (looks frankly badass). Easily a 9/10 or 10/10 for me, go for it.

Oh man this is worse than the Lego thread. Bunch of enablers. ;p

I did it, I picked up Hardhead. he's a pretty cool toy. The angles on him make him really cool. For example, the writs angles, and his legs, which don't just go straight down.

The bulk of the forearms and shoulders, angles of the torso give him really good looking proportions.

I'm a little annoyed at what passes for paint application quality. Had to hunt for a nice looking one, and even then the head on the small Furos figure had misapplied paint.

some flash on the back of Hardhead's leg had been very roughly removed and looks very obvious.

Just wondering are modern transformers toys kind of a bit pick'n'mix when it comes to small detail quality like this? Or am i just misremembering and it has always been like this - i perhaps just didn't notice?

Overall though, it;s a smart looking figure. the tank leaves some want, but it's not bad.

I got my UW Computron yesterday and messed around with his combined form today. It's a really cool figure, and he has none of the posture problems that Defensor had. Seems stable enough, even on the standard feet.

Since I don't have the other combiners (except Defensor), all but Nosecose are completely new molds, and they're pretty good.

* Scattershot is great, really invokes the original despite being a Silverbolt repaint. The way he transforms into torso mode is genius.
* Afterburner is... meh. Huge changes from the original toy colour (cartoon was crazy), and the mold feels simple. The entire wheel section doesn't fold up in a compact way. He (Groove) was a JP only mold and it seems less thought went into him. I think I won't bother tracking down the actual Groove now.
* Strafe is great. He reminds me of Blades, but the orange guns make him distinct. Lots of paint applications.
* Lightspeed is short and stocky, not too interesting. The arms remind me of Armada in their simplicity.
* Nosecone is awesome. The drill tank mode is spot on and it's fantastic how they made such huge changes to Rook that easily.

I would have preferred the US Afterburner and getting Scrounge, but unless you buy both and mix and match, this is the better one.

My combiner priority is:
Predaking
Defensor
Computron
Abominus
Bruticus
Piranacon
Devastator
Superion
Menasor

So unless Takara makes Predaking or Abominus out of the blue, I'm done for now. Bruticus is decent but not quite enough to replace the G1 one.

I've had my Takara Computron and Bruticus ordered for quite a while from a Spanish import shop that's been having problems with customs, hopefully I'll receive them soon. Defensor is pretty awesome, and I'm in love with my Takara Devastator.

I keep putting off taking pics of the extra Hotspot I painted as Prime due to lazyness. I also need to get Hound or Wheeljack as the fourth limb for it, but it seems kind of hard to find them shipped to Spain for less than 30$
