I'm not understanding how these beast transformers having been hiding on earth all this time when the ape is about the size of a small building and the cheetah is the size of a truck.

I just read an article online where the director stated his goal for this film was to push latin and black culture to the front of the film, (can't remember the exact words atm)

I mean, why not ROBOT culture since that is what these films are supposed to be about...?

Well, given the horrible stereotype transformers we got in the Bay films, not sure pushing ANY "culture" is a good idea.

I haven’t been to the theatres in years. That's going to change with this. Maximals are my childhood.

Hmmm. I'm lowkey excited for this. Looks like fun. Beast Wars was great. Beast Machines is a different story.

Saw this in a large crowd in an early screening. Its gonna be bashed by critics but audiences are going to love it. Whole theater went crazy

Just saw this in IMAX 3D.

Not as good of a movie as Bumblebee, but overall pretty entertaining. Lots of dumb plot conveniences, drags a bit in the middle, but a solid and action packed third act, likeable cast and lots of cool moments.

7/10 - perfectly fine to watch with a bucket of popcorn.

Is it better than the BayFormers at least?

Easily.

Only the first TF movie comes close.

This one has the best human characters of the franchise

I am excited to see it.

But man, Beast Wars was easily one of my favorite cartoons growing up (I never saw G1 playing anywhere but I was still able to follow BW mostly) and Dinobot and Rattrap were easily my favorites. Why, oh why, are they the two Maximals NOT in the film (apparently, no spoilers please if they show up after all) while everyone else is in the film? And the Predacons seem to barely have any presence in the film at all (again, no spoilers if the marketing was deceptive and this is more Beast Wars focused than expected). Like, come on, BW Megatron, Waspinator, Blackarachnia, they had some great villains as well.

I was never a fan or watched the beast wars era but I resonate much better with these newer movies than the Bayformers because its literally visually how I think those drawn transformers would look like in a movie format. Bayformers wasnt terrible but just the design of them felt so different....I think my last drop was when one of the decepticons had a "BEARD" made out of chains....or starscream was it, wearing a cape in the desert to protect from dust storms lol wtf.

the action was good but all the human parts was just the director self inserting himself, fucking annoying to watch.

at least in my screening it even started from him addressing the audience directly about how he worked so hard on it. fuck off.

one thing is that I didn't know Pete Davidson was the VA of Mirage had I known that, it definitely would have made it worse. With the audio altering they do to the transformers I'd never guess it was him.

So in terms of best movies of the franchise, I’d say Bumblebee is still the best, followed by this. Then 1 and 3 (and to a lesser extent 4) are guilty pleasures for the most part, 2 is bad but has a few good elements (particularly Jetfire), and 5 is mostly awful.

Granted, for Transformers as a whole, this is the best one as a TF film specifically, as Bumblebee was focused on being a smaller and more focused film. Which made sense, the franchise had gotten out of control by 5 and lowering the scale helped them get focused again. So hence why I think Bumblebee is the best as a film itself but this one is the best as specifically the TF film.

The human characters are really good in this one, helps there’s only two (and Noah’s brother and his buddy but they’re each only in a few scenes) of them and unlike the Bayformers once they join the Autobots they keep their scenes focused on helping the Autobots rather than pausing for hijinks or too much exposition (looking at you in particular, The Last Knight!). Having said that, I’d still give the edge to the human characters in Bumblebee in terms of how much I cared about them, but these were good too.

But here’s the problem, it’s very clear this was made as an Autobot film and the Maximals are mostly included to draw in fans. This may not be the director/writer’s fault, apparently some Predacons were going to be in the film but the director had to take them out, though he didn’t clarify if this was a decision on his part or executives meddling. Regardless, would have far preferred Predacons showed up than Unicron who obviously is meant to be a threat tied to the Autobots and not tied to the Maximals in any of the prior continuities AFAIK.

But honestly, kinda glad now Dinobot and Rattrap didn’t show if they had barely been given any focus that would have hurt worse than them not showing up at all. Optimus Primal gets a lot of focus, Airazor as well to a lesser extent, but Cheetor gets like three lines, and I don’t remember Rhinox saying anything (he has a voice actor but I really don’t remember any dialogue from him). Like, don’t subtitle it Rise of the Beasts if it’s still mostly Autobot focused. Like, yes, they actually developed the Autobots pretty well in this film, but damn, they sorta did the Maximals dirty.

Hopefully a Maximal only film is planned for after this. Like, obviously still make Autobot films, hell we’ve yet to see Megatron himself in this new continuity, but let the Maximals have at least a film to themselves. I legitimately hold Beast Wars as one of the best cartoons of the 90’s, yes the animation is beyond dated, and there is a few dud episodes mainly in Season 1 (god, the “fart” episode…), but it mostly slaps, and boy does it slap hard.

To be clear, still had a great time with the film, just hoping they give us Beast Wars fans some real love with a follow up film.

Just watched it over the weekend, its a fun movie. I don't feel like its as good as Bumblebee, but at least the human characters are pretty good this time around as well. Not enough Maximals action if you ask me. I don't really like that almost every Transformers movie revolves around some random doohickey. There has to be other ways to motivate these robots to battle each other.

I don't like Optimus having a mouth. He's supposed to just have that moving jaw. That's it!

I haven't seen the movie yet but I will this weekend.

GotDAMN this movie was SO MUCH FUN! An absolute blast and seeing it with three young boys and sitting next to a couple old nerds made this an unmatched experience. How that Marky Mark joke got in was just...chefs kiss.

And the business card drop at the end....FUCK YES!!!!!! All they gotta do is add M.A.S.K. or MOTU and I will throw all my monies on the table.

The film, set in 94, just shows that old school hip hop trounces modern rap all day and all night. My only quibble was the Elena actress has a mush mouth and slurred a lot of her lines. When Michelle Yoeh has clearer diction than an ACTUAL NY born actress, something is off.

Kudos for having sickle cell disease as a plot point, one of the very few times I've seen that.

Watched this tonight - it's been 10+ years since I have seen a TF movie in the theater, but it was a good excuse to get out and honestly, I just want to see however many more legit Cullen Prime things we can get, can't imagine he's got too many more of these in him.

Not a great film, but it seems like they've learned a lot of lessons from the past films, and it's a nice followup to Bumblebee (which was probably about as good as this film, overall). All I want to see are 80s and 90s TF stories so I feel catered to, kinda, although you really forget about the period after the setup in this film. Some pretty neat car chasing, more of that stuff next time please, maybe everyone else is sick of that stuff but I can handle a little more (actually there is so much they could do in this regard that would really be rad, if only!) A decent amount of action sequences although it really, REALLY feels so horribly uninspired in every damn one, I feel like they are concentrating on making it too legible (relatively) as opposed to.. interesting and novel. Like my complaint earlier about car chases, there is so much that they could do interesting with ALL THESE action shots but they are all planned and executed so lazily. They look nice, certainly, but there is just almost nothing iconic in there anymore. Complain all that you want about "but the technology is so much more advanced after 16 years of these films," but honestly those older films at least had some noteably standout iconic shots. This film just feels like this stuff was so paint-by-the-numbers.

Anyway whatever, it was fun, Arcee looked great, Mirage, I mean Jazz, I mean Mirage was done respectfully enough and they even threw in a very quick "blink and you'll miss it" call back to his G1 which I was appreciative of. A couple other little touches which I won't spoil as well, but really serious TF nerds will love that stuff.

Went with my friend, a legit film nerd who will constantly beg me to rewatch G1 S3 with him.. anyway he didn't enjoy the movie at all ("ROTB < The Flash"), said it was boring and terrible, I can appreciate that response.

I just watched it. I could understand every line Elena said. Must have been your theater's sound system.

I really REALLY liked this movie! Even better than Bumblebee!

And that Marky Mark diss was FUNNY! LOL!

I really wish war for cybertron and fall of cybertron were still availible to purchase
I am extremely glad I was able to buy all 3 of the Cybertron games and Devastation when they were released. I really need to finish them, and record them for posterity.
