This game is so weird for me. I highly enjoy it for like an hour, but then the frustration kicks in with different things. Maybe I should try a complete different playstyle.

Yeah try a different class. I just started playing Sentinel yesterday and it feels like a whole new game.

Its also dependent on the teams you get. A bad team will make it suck.

I just picked this up yesterday and I'm completely enthralled by it - pretty awesome game. I played the old Tribes a little bit back in the day, but never was really to into it. CTF is my game - maps are great and plenty of challenge from other players. We had some extremely close matches last night that were like 4 - 4 in overtime where we barely squeaked out a win (or ended up losing).

Really love just how... fast this game is. I immediately went VIP after playing a few rounds and my class of choice is the Infiltrator with the stickies, mines and throwing knives. It's so awesome and I usually play defense with it since it's a boss at keeping people off the flag.

Plus, those throwing knives are awesome - great damage, very little fall off over distance, and you can throw them super fast. I've sniped people with 'em - totally awesome.

I've been playing around with the other classes, but don't really have a 2nd favorite yet. I'm not too fond of sniping in this game, the heavies don't really do a lot for me, so I'm more inclined to stick with a medium weight or light weight guy.

My in-game nick is Striketh - would love to play with some gaffers sometime, especially if we have some kind of TS/Vent setup (I've already added my info to the spreadsheet linked to in the op).

I'm glad to see at least someone else besides me post here, though - it seems like GAF isn't all that interested in Tribes and activity in this thread has died off. =\

I've been working on skiing and flag capping routes and had some fun games yesterday where I was able to grab the flag at 200+ k/m and hop over to my flag in 1 - 2 jumps. It's pretty satisfying when everything goes perfectly with your route.

What I'm not liking is... pubs. Sometimes it's fine and I have a blast, other times my team seems dumber than the bot AI in the game. I really wish the game had in-game voice chat because nobody works together at all. In fhat, I really want to join a clan or something so I can play in more structured games where everyone isn't running around all crazy and shit. But, I'm also still fairly new so it's not like I'm a pro or want to compete with the pro's either.

Also, I hate snipers. They almost never kill me - just pew pew from a distance and annoy the shit out of me.
 
As I said, you can enter any address in the email field. Make up an imaginary email address and use that, they won't verify it.

As for not seeing team work, level up a bit. Everyone is new in the beginning so you can understand if things don't go smoothly, but once you cross level 10 or 15, you'll start to see people doing their jobs properly.

I'm actually level 12 now and while at times it can be a bit better, there's still a lot of times where I seem to get idiot team mates that don't understand the concept of flag defense, or we have 6 people standing in the gen room.

Then maybe once or twice a day I get a game like I just had where we barely won at 4 caps a piece and I had to wittle down the enemy defenses as a infiltrator so the guys capping the flag could get in. I always escort the guy with the flag too, cause on several occasions they end up killed and as the enemy team is running in to nonchalantly save their flag I zip past at 180+ km and take off with it. Always a satisfying moment :D

When you start picking up the flag at 300+km you'll do so by explosive grenading yourself and picking up the flag with < 200hp. Then the snipers start killing you!

I've actually been using those already to great effect, as well as spin disk jumping. On the map drydock (I think it's that one) I can generally grab the flag at around 200 k/m with full health, skate past the defenses and then disk jump all the way to my flag stand in a single hop which I used last night to come back from a 0 - 3 game and win it.

My fastest flag pick up has been like 202 k/m, though, so I obviously have to work on my routes still, but I'm getting there :p

I'm having the biggest problems with Katabanic and Stonehenge. With kata, I tend to mess up my route and swing wide even though I can usually get up to about 240 k/m on it - but, pointless if I can't grab the flag. On stonehenge, the map is so weird and those hills so ginormous by the flag that I have trouble even setting up a viable route to go through the flag capture point at a decent speed. I was trying to figure it out the other day, but always ended up at really shitty speeds and just kind of gave it up.

I'm going to record some videos today and toss 'em up on youtube. Kind of a "Why I suck at Tribes" series showcasing my fuck ups :p

"If all goes as planned, the next patch for Tribes will be available next week. It will contain a new game mode called Biltz. This is a variation of CTF where the flag position is becoming easier to defend. For example on Katabatic, capture at the fifth, the flag is located within the base under the flag stand.

Finally, the Technician will be entitled to new hardware. I'm looking forward to Blitz as I love CTF and exclusively play that mode, as well as the bug fixes - several of which I've noticed in my time with the game (like weapons becoming invisible or your secondary items like shields becoming randomly undeployable).

Technician updates sound nice and I'm looking forward to the new turrets - could definitely help make them more viable for flag defense, though only for slow cappers as anyone moving 200+ km/h will be much too fast for the turrets to track.

Won't have to bust out Ultra Cap I/II anymore in maps where remaining close to the flag stand is trickier. Rage always now.

A new gametype, CTF Blitz, has been introduced. In Blitz, the enemy flag base moves location each time your team scores, changing routes and requiring varied tactics to win.CTF Blitz is initially played on Arx Novena, Katabatic and Drydock.

New CTF Maps have been added to the Quick Play Rotation (Dangerous Crossing and Permafrost)

New Pack: The EXR Turret has a longer range than the Light Turret and fires a small explosive rocket. It deals less focused damage than the Light Turret, but makes up for it with flexibility.
Reduced reload time on Brutes Gladiator by 7%.

Animations in the main menu have been shortened, making for faster menu navigation.
Various cleanups and fixes to existing maps.
Fixed a bug where deployable sensors, such as the Sentinel's Drop Jammer, could permanently affect players.
Fixed an issue where a mastered Safe Fall perk was resetting the health regen time even though the player took no falling damage.
Fixed an issue where deployables were not deploying properly on certain surfaces, such as the threshold between the ramp and interior of the Sunstar temple.
Fixed issues where overlay effects on the Mercenary Sentinel skin could cause a flashing side-effect.
Fixed an issue where shotguns would not properly perform a passive reload and therefore could cause odd behavior when the player shot subsequent rounds.
Fixed a bug in which the “Screen Crack” setting would not store properly server-side.
Fixed a bug in which featured news ticker items would show under the “Watch Now” menu.
A new settings option has been added to enable Alienware FX. For Alienware machines, colors will change on the hardware based on your health status. Be sure you have the latest Alienware drivers.
Non-Steam users may add the option “-steam” under “Optional game command line parameters” in order to access Steam-related features, such as use of the Steam wallet (note: You must be logged into Steam prior to launching the game for this feature to work).
Fixed a bug with health multipliers on custom servers.
Implemented several cleanups and fixes to the clan tag functionality.

It's a shame about Beaconstop being short a player, but was overall a good match. I just joined up with TAW so I'm going to be playing with them starting tomorrow and see how bad I get my ass kicked.

While a lot of people have stopped capping with pathfinders due to the nerf, I still love playing one since they're so fast which is more my thing. Infiltrator is still one of my favorite's, though - did some arena earlier in the day and got a couple killing sprees with inf.

Still hate juggernaut - both playing and fighting them. =\

So after getting back into this I've been playing for at least an hour every night. This is the most I've been into an online shooter in a long time.

I've pretty much exclusively been playing Blitz and honing my flag capping/chasing. Because Impact Nitron is the best thing. I do hope that they add more Blitz maps soon, because the 3 they have right now will get old eventually. Also, Katabatic ending up as a 4-4 tie 50 percent of the time gets kind of old. But I guess that's what happens when you play on random public servers where teamwork isn't a thing.

The biggest Tribes tourney finals happened during PAX, and if you went to the HiRez booth, you wouldn't have even known. It is a total shame that things are headed this way.

After this last tourney, zfz killed off the other two of the top three teams. Both disbanded. There's no future tourney support in the works. Good time to get in comp if you play casual.

On the positive side of things, zfz won the tourney. We're moving over to Firefall though.

Yeah, it'll continue on as a casual type of thing, but not with legitimate tourney support. We went full behind T:A because the core game is so freaking awesome and fun to play, but without any sort of decent support it's hard to rationalize staying.

To put this in perspective, Firefall announced that there is a $1,000,000.00 prize pool for season one guaranteed so far.

The "Get Primed for PAX" tourney, which was the highest payout so far, was $1,000.00 for first place.

On top of that, HiRez has completely moved their attention to Smite. Bart, while I really like the guy on a personal level, is only one man. He's done an okay job at promoting T:A. But with his attention now on Smite, there's really no one to be a torch bearer.

I get that they are an independent studio, and my judgement here is more based on comparing what has been done to what my hopes and dreams were, which isn't very fair of me in the first place. When a fast FPS without a glass skill ceiling that had projectile weapons was put in front of me, I ate it up. Tribes is still the most prolific title in my gaming history in terms of how it affected me and shaped my tastes. I should have known better.

So I found the secret to getting lots of Blue Plates. Play a heavier class. They one shot lighter classes. Its Glorious. No more having to hit a single heavy either 4 times in a row.

I have this feeling once my boost is over, I'll be retiring from the game. I've really been wanting to play DOTA2, but I just can't juggle two online games at once.

Here are some of the things we are currently planning on for the next Tribes patch (scheduled to be released later in the month.

This list is not comprehensive and may change.

Major Items

Reduced the amount of impact camera shake from rapid projectile weapons (such as Assault Rifles, SMGs, etc).
Decoupling of texture quality in graphics settings
Introduced &#8220;flag drag&#8221; to limit the amount of speed a flag carrier can maintain at very high speeds. The drag is introduced at 250 km/h. For custom servers, this speed and the deceleration rate for when a player is over the top speed are customizable.
There is a new option under Settings->Gameplay called Simulated Projectiles (enabled by default). If disabled, projectiles from fast firing guns will no longer be simulated client-side, resulting in projectiles that are accurate to what the server plays at the cost of a delay from when you see them.
New CTF Blitz Map (Crossfire)
Three new weapons for Sentinel
One new weapon for Solider (a Spinfusor for the secondary slot)
One new weapon for Pathfinder (a Spinfusor with 100% Inheritance)

Weapon/Balance Items

Rage no longer gives energy regeneration over time, it now gives a flat instant amount of energy when it activates (along with it&#8217;s heal). During the rage duration your mass is still reduced.
Increased Rage Perk duration by 5s.
Reduced the amount of impact camera shake from rapid projectile weapons (such as Assault Rifles, SMGs, etc).
Reduced magazine size on Raider&#8217;s NJ5 to 20. Adjusted starting ammo to match.
Reduced damage on Technician&#8217;s Quick-Fuse grenade by 11%.

Reduced damage on Soldier&#8217;s Short-Fuse Frag by 10%.

Increased radius on Technician&#8217;s TC24 by 4%.
Increased projectile speed 15% on Technician&#8217;s EXR Turret.
Increased projectile size on Technician&#8217;s EXR Turret.
Slightly reduced the size of Technician&#8217;s EXR Turret.
Increased the top speed of the Grav Cycle.
Decreased damage on Soldier&#8217;s Proximity Grenade by 11%.
Decreased radius on Soldier&#8217;s Proximity Grenade by 8%.
The Technician&#8217;s Repair Kit will no longer repair objectives through world geometry. Base turrets are an exception to this rule since they can be on platforms that don&#8217;t have enough room for the kit.

I tested out the patch today. Quick impressions:

1. Flag drag isn't as bad as it sounds. It really only makes a small difference overall.

2. The new sniper rifle does just a bit more damage than the current one and is overall a bit better, but only if you can aim.

3. Motion mines are nice, but too easy to spot/destroy. Mines are still better as they hit everyone and not just those that are going fast. The upside is that they're better than claymores for flag defense since it's not limited to a frontal cone.

4. The shotgun added to the sentinel is nice, but the range feels shorter than other shotguns. I find it to better suit me than the falcon, though, since more often than not they're right in your face anyway so it's good to have a boomstick to be able to kill them faster (takes 5 shots to kill a heavy, though).

5. The 100% inheritance spinfusor is going to take a lot of practice to become proficient with, but it's nice to see spinfusors behave more like you'd expect. Really digging it and will probably use that hence forth.

6. I have no purpose for the spinfusor in the secondary slot on the soldier, so while it might be fun to play around with dual spinfusors, I'd rather have the thumper for flag defense over that.

7. Crossfire works well as a blitz map and is quite fun.

I haven't played the new Permafrost yet, so I can't comment on the changes to that, but I've heard mixed reviews on it - in some ways better, in others worse.

The new permafrost is ridiculous. Before, if you were really lucky or skilled you could drop in through the ceiling and grab the flag and get out. Now there's no possibility of that. I've played two games on it, and they've both been 0-0 stalemates after overtime.

Now I just leave the server after tartarus finishes until the stonehenge-dangerous crossing-permafrost crapfest runs its course.

In regards to the match we played earlier - the other team was massively late, couldn't get 7 people and we ended up just giving them one of our extra players so we could get the game going. And, apparently, the caster was in a car accident so it didn't get casted >_<

Oh well. We'll hopefully get the next one casted. We won all 3 games, though.

Every now and then I think about doing some pugs, but that'd mean having to learn beagle routes. Far too lazy for that kind of thing!

Got my 1k Mid Airs. Took me a few weeks of lite play as a Brute, compared to the 300 hours of PTH. Heh.

I got bored of it as well. :p Waiting for the next major update I guess. Too many other good games to play, with newer ones like XCOM and Dishonored along with the PC's massive backlog of excellence.

Just wanted to play this and can't get past the launcher. At first it was stuck validating, after checking the game cache and redownloading some files it validated but was then stuck on repairing. I've now managed to get past that but now it crashes during the splash screen. I'm on windows 8, but a quick google search showed that there are quite a few people having the same issue, regardless of windows version.
 
Hmm, I knew competative play for T:A wouldn't last... balance is still pretty off in these things. It's not as apparent in pubs as it is in scrims.

Anyway. I came for your guys' help... I doubt I'll find it here, as this thread is hardly getting posts.

I'm looking for the old Tribes 2 ad that was in magazines. The instructions on what to do if you ran out of ammo.

Kissing your ass goodbye? Anyone have it?

I just got a survery from Hi-Rez. It appears they are thinking of condensing the 9 classes to 3 (Light, Medium and Heavy).

Also they are thinking of ditching regenerating health and going with health kits.

I hope both of these come to fruition and people give them the feedback on the surveys.

Damn, are people still playing this? I was very into this game for a while, then they started adding all these maps that weren't fun (stonehenge, that silly ice one with the shield around the flag etc) into the rotation and I stopped playing.

Probably wouldn't have been so bad if they had spread them out, but it was like 3-4 new/bad maps one after the other.

Nailing a route as a pathfinder, grabbing at some ridiculous speed and capping through a hail of gunfire and explosions was the most fun I've had in a shooter in a long time.
