This whole thing about "omg did rocky really get mad at cena" etc has got me thinking about a question I've been meaning to ask since the new wave of juniors, but anyone is obviously free to answer: When did you first realize that wrestling is a work?

For me, it was the 2nd time Undertaker was put in a casket and it was lit on fire (with Taz and Cole saying "this has never happened before" LOL).

...I'm pretty sure it happened twice. I do remember it was on a Smackdown, but it was also YEARS ago.

Austin dropping HHH in the car at Survivor Series 2000 and then HHH appearing completely unharmed like a week later pretty much did it for me

THEY'RE PUERRICAN

Edit: you edited!
LOL, that's the episode that I got my Gaf name from.

About tonight's Raw and The Rock's promo, I thought he missed a huge opportunity to rebut Cena's point about him fighting for all the people in back because The Rock's never there while Cena's there every week. He could have said something about him leaving to let someone new be the go-to guy, while Cena's been hogging the spotlight for almost a decade. It sounded like he was going there but then he just fell back on name-dropping Wrasslers. Should have stuck to your wrist notes, Rock.

Also, it was funny hearing Rock say, "Pro Wrestler" and "Babyface, goodguy" because wasn't he the one always trumpeting McMahon's buzz words? The most electrifying man in sports entertainment?

So, HHH buried Miz after the Cena/Miz match. Video is on WWE.com

I mean, this is how it LITERALLY happens. Miz is talking after the match, HHH music hits, he walks into the ring and IMMEDIATELY pedigrees Miz, then leaves.

just watch that video almost makes me feel bad for the miz........nah f the miz

I knew wrestling was a work before i started watching wrestling, but then i did start watching wrestling when i was 14

For me it was Survivor Series 2000 with the whole Austin/Triple H/forklift thing.

I was still a mark though. I remember a month before than being so mad when Rikishi cost The Rock the championship to Angle at No Mercy 2000. I was disgusted with Rikishi.

My dad said it was fake shortly after I started watching around 1998, lol.

When did you first realize that wrestling is a work?
The only time I thought it was real was when I was like 5 or 6. You couldn't mention wrestling without somone saying "it's fake" so I guess I knew after that. When I got back into it and started watching frequently, it was very clear to me that the match outcomes were predetermined. But when it really hit home that it was fake was when I watched this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9u8x0Xrj4A

WCW played a slow motion replay of Steamboat jumping off the top rope onto someone and it was obvious that their bodies barely made any contact at all.

Around the same time, I was thinking that the Undertaker's punches looked fucking weak too.

Also, I thought WWE boycotted Oregon, what happened?

Oregon had a really fucking ridiculous athletic commission restriction against pro wrestling. Wrestlers had to have full-blown physicals 30 days before events (take one shot why no one wanted to do that).

There were also rules that even if you passed all the stuff, you couldn't have a pro wrestling show where anyone used punches with closed fists, jumped off the ropes, used elbows, gouged eyes, pulled hair, and all that stuff. It was really stupid.

That's why WWF and WCW stayed away from Oregon during the height of the nWo/Attitude era. It wasn't until 2003 where they finally passed a law that recognized pro wrestling as entertainment and not a sport, which removed all the ridiculous restrictions. WWE runs Oregon all the time now since 2003.

I just wanted to post that, looking back at some of the posts from tonight, I cannot believe that you guys thought the Punk/Jericho promo was anywhere near "great". I found it boring, tautological, and repetitive. And this is coming from someone who probably has Punk and Jericho in my top 5 of all time--see: avatar <---. Punk's part was okay, but Jericho's was, to be honest, almost brutally poor. It lacked any originality; so unless the whole point was to make Jericho look like an unoriginal buffoon spouting the same retort to Punk's differing rhetoric (Which, I think, gives the WWE waaaay too much credit) Jericho needs to work on improving, and in a hurry.

I guess this is just my 2c, though.

I knew it immediately. I'm not saying that to sound like a cool kid either. I didn't really get into wrestling until the late 90's. The way they would punch each other was the most glaring.

I didn't give a fuck though, because the matches and the drama was sooooo much fun to watch.

So finally watched RAW, it was ok.

-D.Bryan made to look weak as shit getting the pinned, then there is no announcement to say the 'Winner of the match by DQ D.Bryan' will leave the crowd thinking he is weak as shit. At least have Jericho come out to cause the distraction to allow D.Bryan to win by countout.

-Jericho vs Punk is losing me somewhat - Snarky snark CM Punk not taking anything seriously, Jericho babbling about, and trying to fuse the Iatolola of Rock and rolla' with super serious Y2J is not working it has failed.

-Eve's new heel character works.

-Miz trying to get a shot at WM, reminds me they built him up he was dominant to help WWE to get press coverage E.g. as he is the only WWE Character that was ever allowed on appear on BBC TVfor instance. Burial continues when they should embrace him more.

-Guess we are getting at WM, Epico and Primo vs Swagger and Dolph vs Kofi and Truth vs Kane for Tag team championships.

-Rocky was great.

-Cena same old shit like usual. A note for John:
  1. Remember you said you never wanted to be a wrestler, you wanted to be a body builder.
  2. The best orators in the world have cue cards - at least to keep them focused on the points they need to make, not memorize something 100% and make it come across bland and jokey like you do all the time.

Honestly, I thought Raw was off the charts last night. Could have been the final Raw before Mania for all I cared, it was that good.

Rock seemed genuinely mad after Cena slaughtered him on the mic, which was great to see.

I agree with most of the rest of the post, but I'm confused with this sentence. Are you saying that, when Miz was champion, he was booked as a dominating character? Because that was certainly not the case. He was a chicken-shit heel, like nearly every heel in WWE in the last, I dunno--7 years?

The Miz
Christian
Daniel Bryan
Dolph Ziggler
Wade Barret
Cody Rhodes (though getting better w/some legit wins)
R-Truth (at the time)
Mark Henry (was dominant for a short time, now back to chicken-shit)
Alberto Del Rio
Primo and Epico
Hunico

Shit's getting old, man

On a side note: I was looking at the WWE roster on WWE.com and came across this.

gaybriel5uj44.jpg

I want to be very clear when I state that this is a 100% a "not that there is anything wrong with that" reaction, but what is with that head tilt on Justin Gabriel? No one else has their head tilted more than a couple of degrees, and he's got a full-on 45 degree tilt. Maybe I'm just too tired, haha. Time for bed!

Edit: Also just noticed that Laurenitis is the only one not looking at the camera, which is hilarious.

Do you really believe this? I honestly have no clue how anybody could have thought Rock was great last night. Cena slaughtered him.

Nope I meant he was dominant in terms of doing press, not in the ring, for Wrestlemania last year along with Rock and Cena.

I'll go and fix that later.

Do you really believe this? I honestly have no clue how anybody could have thought Rock was great last night. Cena slaughtered him.

Yes, Rocky was great. Cena was same old shit - well fine tell me how did Cena destroy him?

Heavy and friends need to relax and take the hook out of their mouths.

WWE is grabbing you by the balls and you don't even notice. They are doing exactly what they've been trying to do for the past several years: cheer for John Cena. Remember when they had Legend upon Legend talking Cena up big? Remember newly turned face and red-hot CM Punk, despite all that angst and bitterness (or so it seemed) from his RAW "shoot" promo, still said he respects John Cena and loves for what he does in this business. Oh, he is here everyday, he is passionate about this business, a standup guy who goes out each and every night and gives it 110%. Baloney! People still buy into all that crap apparently.

He's going to remain the same no matter what. Also, what's with these terribly low standards? Last week he had that half-assed promo on the Rock how he's always gone, Cena says he is still there all the time, he's gonna whip his ass, lada lada lada, what made that so great? Are we scraping the barrel for what's good these days, because the promos he's made and done consistently for the past seven-eight years have been watered down, boring, same-old-shit material? It's not going to change. He's a complacent guy, and needs a guy like The Rock to actually motivate him to try to be someone who's not the same tiring character he has been for a near decade.

So I woke up and before I saw Raw I saw a tweet about how the Rock delivered an epic promo to Cena.

I excitedly watched, then felt let down.

Irregardless of whether the Cena stuff was a work or a shoot the first part of the promo was just bad.

Yes he connected with the crowd but stuff like Kung Pao Bitch was just pathetic, it had no relevance and was nothing more than an easy soundbite similar to Cena promo's by numbers.

For me it was just a self serving promo that the live crowd probably loved but acheived nothing much like his opening promo last Mania.

I was a huge Rock fan back in the day but I'm amazed at how stale he seems at the moment which is astounding when you think how little he's been on WWE TV, I imagine he will pick up his game in the next 5 weeks though.

I feel similarly about HBK though, I love that guy yet totally nonplussed about his next return next week as it will be more talking about how awesome HHH Taker was.

Glad I didn't stay up for that clusterfuck. Rock got murdered.

By Cena.

Not doing improvisation for the last 7 years really hurt the guy.

This is what Rock's promo notes on his wrist said:

KRS to KPB
Innovator - Camo
2 reasons
Call out

I don't get the fury over the fact that Rock writes down notes to begin with actually. You do realise that most good orators do this. It keeps them focused so they can get the relevant information out.

But nope we would rather listen to Cena's shitty scripted comedy that he has been doing for the last 7 years that he memorises and comes off bland and boring.

But this is the WWE wouldn't surprise me if the writing was a plant, just to allow WWE to turn the hardcore smarks against the Rock.
