TRON Rollercoaster Coming To Walt Disney World

Give me a new TRON movie, Disney.

The thing about a new TRON movie, is it's unknowable. It's impossible but it's also right in front of us all the time! You wouldn't know that because I didn't when I wanted a new TRON movie. I'm sorry, Vectorman. I'm sorry.

A light cycle rollercoaster? Oh hell yes.

If you walk between Fantasyland and Tomorrowland, you may not see it, but you can sure as hell smell it.

I dunno, Speedway still draws a pretty good crowd because of little kids.

Speedways been busted for years. The cars are all fucked, music is crap, the track is super short and busted too. It gets shut down all the time for "tune ups" but the reality is that that ride is old as fuck. Its about time they give it an update.

Plus Tomorrowland is in dire need of a face lift. Most of whats displayed there as "futuristic" doesnt make sense anymore.

Better be going to Epcot!

I doubt it is going to Magic Kingdom, speedway still gets 40 minute lines and Epcot is fucking dying in the rides department.

Yup, really hope the part about it replacing Speedway is true. It would be the best case scenario. If Speedway is kept, they at the very least need to move to EVs.

This is fascinating, the rumors had shifted course from this going to Epcot to replace Ellen's Energy Adventure (where there was a GOTG coaster rumor that has lost steam in the last few months).

It seems as if rather than attack World of Tomorrow at EPCOT next (if anything, EPCOT is getting the Remy dark ride in France Pavilion), they are going to tackle Tomorrowland.

Having been to Disneyland and World a lot over the last year, there's probably three major issues with the parks right now. Animal Kingdom is in a good place, but each of the other three parks needs attention. Hollywood Studios is getting it with Toy Story Land and Star Wars Land, but World of Tomorrow (EPCOT) and Tomorrowland (Disneyland and Magic Kingdom) are both super outdated and need love.

Some are suggesting the Speedway isn't actually going away, and this portion is pure expansion behind it - and further than there are more massive changes coming to Tomorrowland.

This weekend should be fun as a Disney park junkie

Ha! When/where's this from?
The short set after Legacy that came with the Blu ray.

Man, that was years ago. Funny how Cillian Murphy was foreshadowed to be the next antagonist too.

Im hoping they just facelift all of Tomorrowland eventually. Most of the "future" dates are coming up so they gotta re-examine/re-build what the new future will look like.

Im still a total sucker for the Astral Orbiter ride tho. I love riding those little rockets while the fireworks are going <3

Okay, I've gotten weirdly involved with Disney message boards recently because I'm planning a family trip there. On one of them, they've been speculating this for months, and they generally hate this site for basically taking stuff they say and publishing it like it's their own scoops.

The current rumor there, though, is that it's not replacing the speedway, it's going behind it and will be an addition. Here's the thread

Before I even saw the link, I knew you were talking about WDWMagic.

EDIT: I looked at some footage. Visually it's incredible but the ride itself doesn't seem that great.
Yeah this is my take away from watching videos. Has anyone been on the Shanghai one? I wonder how much they will change. Space Mountain in France is very different from Magic Kingdom Space Mountain.

Agreed on DAK. Went on a family vacation to WDW last month and we all agreed that DAK is currently the best park. Easily spent the entire day there rope drop to close and we were constantly being entertained. Great rides, great shows, great themeing, great street performances, etc. Really think Pandora and Rivers of Light were the last two ingredients that park needed to make it really special.

Tomorrowland does need some attention, and I think Tron is a good first step. I know the Tomorrowland movie was a bomb, but it was a gorgeous movie and I think the land should be refurbished in its retrofuture Worlds Fair image. Would also like to see Alien Encounter return, and massively updated to make it more of a ride. Stitch is so terrible that it's only open during the busiest times of the year just to draw people away from other rides.

I also think it's time for 20000 Leagues Under the Sea to return, this time in Tomorrowland where it belongs. They could really do some amazing things with the technology available to make it a much more immersive experience. It would hopefully be done by the time they finally get around to their film reboot.

As for Futureworld at Epcot. Honestly short of just returning everything to how it was pre-mid 90s, I don't think I'd be happy with whatever it is they're planning. Epcot should not be a place where IPs are randomly shoehorned into existing rides. Epcot should be above and beyond that.

One of my favorite things about this means I'll be able to get some new Tron Merch.
The merch at Shanghai is pretty damn cool.

Praise be unto Iger!

Immensely dig this news, but I hope there's more lit-up effects on the indoor portion just so Space Mountain's existence isn't rendered obsolete.

I honestly can't imagine Epcot getting any better at this point. There's no place to go but down.

The shuttering of Maelstrom for more Frozen garbage more or less tapped the final nail in the coffin that is my enthusiasm for Epcot's return for glory.

That still hurts, and it's still one of the most popular rides on property, which only encourages the execs to continue on this path.

With Siemens letting their Spaceship Earth (and Illuminations) sponsorship expire without renewal, I have this feeling of dread in the pit of my stomach that Disney is gonna try to shove their IP into Spaceship Earth, and that's the point where Epcot Center truly is dead to me.

I am one who tends to love the older and original Disney rides and attractions that the parks seem to hold onto for too long because I loved them as a kid. But with that said Speedway is absolute trash and Tomorrowland in general needs an immense make-over. I brought my toddler children to WDW last fall for the first time and even they called the Speedway the worst thing we did in the 4 parks. Good riddance.

Hopefully Space Mountain still exists after this.

No Space Mountain = No WDW.

It was the park's first roller coaster. Tearing it down would be as sacrilegious as tearing down the Matterhorn in DL (hell, even doing something like replacing the coaster inside with a version more like Paris's would be an absolute sin).

Will I get in trouble if I start throwing glow in the dark frisbee's at people from the ride?

None of the mountains will ever go away. Much as I'd hate to see it, I wouldn't be surprised if Splash got a new theme (Princess and the Frog maybe). The Song of the South theme works on its own, and doesn't need any prior knowledge of the film, but I could see execs reaching a point where they're too uncomfortable with the film's history to let it be. The ride is due for a major overhaul and refurb soon, as it breaks down almost daily. Wouldn't be surprised if they quietly change the theme then.

I REALLY doubt this is going to happen even though I hear people wondering what IP it's based off of all the time. If it does, I probably won't go to the parks anymore. It's far and away my favorite ride.

Happy to see the Raceway being replaced. It took so much precious space and it was so old and boring.

And now I have to get my shit together and watch Tron.

I rode the PofC and the Tron lightcycle rides at Shanghai a couple of weeks ago. Tron was awesome although the line was a bit long. The futuristic aesthetic with the illuminated neon lights were cool. The darkness inside the building contrasted with the lights contributed greatly with the atmosphere. That aspect of the ride reminded me of Space Mountain's use of darkness a little.

As for PotC, you can tell the ride has high production values but the CGI on the projectors felt a little overused. I guess I preferred the real props from the original PotC ride in Anaheim Disneyland. The Jack Sparrow animatronic at the beginning of the Shanghai PotC ride though was unreal. I don't know how the Imagineers were able to transform a motionless skeleton into a mold of Jack Sparrow so seamlessly.

Nice, should help with the "space mountain is the only thing to do on this side of the park" feeling I get whenever i'm in tomorrowland.

Now they just need to completely revitalize futureworld/innoventions and disney might be an exciting place to visit, instead of constantly being reminded of what's missing and reminiscing instead.
