Trump calls for ban on Muslim immigration

Why does everyone take him seriously anyway. He's not going to get the nom, his points are completely irrational, and both parties hate him. He's a clown. The press, and by extension us, should stop giving him a platform to speak.

Remember when they gave the norm to the actor? you know the one, who used to act along side chimps? He was pretty much senile, but a good speaker, what with the acting and all.

The GOP is a personality cult, they will go with whomever sounds 'impressive' to them and isn't afraid to 'say it as it is' playing to their bias.

This is why the establishment is so terrified here, Trump is exactly the sort the modern GOP voters love. He stands a damn good chance of getting the norm, unless somehow, he goes too far, but given the modern neo-facist leanings of the party, that may be actually impossible.

There was actually a time where I thought Trump could be a good candidate for Republicans, but that time is long over. I don't think Trump even wants to win, he's probably just running for publicity at this point.

I think any rational person can see how this would simply make matters worse. It's also completely unconstitutional and there's no way you could prove someone's religion.

Except said actor actually quit acting to go into politics was governor of California for 10 years before becoming president. Say what you will about Ronald Reagan and his policies but he was certainly a legitimate politician and a heck of more than Donald Trump at that. But no, Trump still isn't going to get the nom no matter how many polls he wins and whatever xenophobic bullshit he speaks. That's not how these things works.

Wait, would the president actually be able to do this?

Look at the following:
(f) Suspension of entry or imposition of restrictions by President
Whenever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate.

we should take a page out of Japans play book if we are worried about people piggy backing in on immigration to set up terror networks.

And people still find reasons to support this guy because of party lines or one hot button issue. Is the group of people that are cheering to trumps statement the type of people you want to be associated with? It literally kills me that trump can find support from anyone that isn't an 80 year old bigot

Actually, technically it's constitutional. The NYT has a piece up about this this morning.

The Supreme Court has repeatedly ruled that tests on immigrants can be applied whatever - they aren't subject to the same standards as USA citizens. Furthermore, this is entirely within the Presidents remit - congress isn't necesserily involved at all.

Obama has used the same rules to stop hate preachers entering the states. The us government can realistically bar anyone it feels like, under any test it so devises, and it would be constitutional because the constitution simply doesn't apply here.

I hear Tottenham is a no go area.

But this is the thing, Tottenham is a big place!

But I guess it dilutes the argument when it's brought down to "well, that alleyway in that district is a bit dodgy looking at night"

From reading comments on Facebook news pages, no go area seems like code for "not many white people about".

(not saying your comment was!)
