Trump expected to sign executive actions on immigration on Wednesday

So how long until my wife gets hassled at the border when we come back from visiting family in Canada?

She is from Iran and while she is a US citizen with a US passport, I can see issues coming up with this Dictator wannabee in charge.
Have your in-laws considered putting an addition onto their house?
I think you might want to surprise them with the money to do just that.

I was hoping this mother fucker would wait until after the Switch comes out before he pushes us over the edge. I'd at least like to get through Zelda before I feel like I have to drop my whole life and go wherever the protests are...

This shit is too scary too quick.

He's moving about as quickly as I expected so that most of this shit is going to get buried under other headlines. There's too much happening too quickly for the opposition to really sway the opinion of those less politically active. I'm afraid that the messaging is going to sound like OWS where it's just too many issues at once to be addressed.

Hey, we have thought about it. Happy to say almost her entire family lives in Vancouver, so we have options if things go to shit.

Sad that this is no longer something we just joked about.

People, this is all for show to please the ignorant Trump base. Those restriction have been in effect for years now. Travelling from the countries listed to the US is extremely difficult. As someone who is originally from Yemen, I have known countless people being denied entry to the US even when they had visas. Some were declined to renew their student visa well before this election cycle without even a reason. They had personal properties and school to finish here in the US.

Refugee numbers to the US are pathetic, and I really doubt that international refugee agencies will face significant difficulty to settle people in due to these orders.

Seriously everyone. What else can I do besides contacting elected officials? Without another Women's March happening in my area right now, I don't know what else to do.

So I appreciate that an actual effort is being mobilized for a new protest on April 15, but honestly we need another big march before then. These past 2 days and these next 2 days alone warrant being vocal on the streets immediately

You stay informed on all he does and your local elections. You share that knowledge with those around you all you can and just remember how important your vote actually is.

So it's possible this is a whole lot of bluster about not really changing what we already do?

I would be pretty surprised if we didn't already have strict controls and monitoring of immigrants and arrivals from those countries mentioned. It's not discrimination, it's a reaction to what's going on there.

The article in the OP doesn't mention what the restrictions will be, so how do you know this?

They will be typical vague restrictions to prevent people from getting visas or entering the US(basically making their lives more difficult). While I don't know the exact restrictions are going to be, it's not hard to predict.

We don't want to make it seem like the protests are commonplace because then less people are likely to show up.

I think a large protest on the 15th of April is perfect. Every 3 months or so may be needed with what Trump is doing daily.

I don't think Donald will half cock anything. We'll see tomorrow I guess.

Good thing we're talking about important matters like the President's imaginary illegal voters from 2 1/2 months ago who tried to steal his election win away from him then, right?
Because that seems productive when there are too many issues at once to talk about.

This is also true. Yet another phase in the performance art of this new administration. Lots and lots of grandstanding, gaslighting and obfuscation of the truth. And it's only going to get worse.

Yep. People from those countries listed have to provide substantial evidence that will guarantee their return after doing their business in the US and even still get refused in the end. And visas are only granted for the wealthy and powerful in these countries. I highly doubt travelers from Syria, Yemen or Somalia visas are handled the same way as visas from east asia for example.

Right ban immigrants from a nation founded on immigrants. Hamilton is rolling over in his grave. It is so obvious that Trump is literally a monster and that not one motherfucker in the GOP has the spine to stand up to him.

Never have these lyrics been as apt as they are right now.

And so we go, on with our lives
We know the truth, but prefer lies
Lies are simple, simple is bliss
Why go against tradition when we can
Admit defeat, live in decline
Be the victim of our own design
The status quo, built on suspect
Why would anyone stick out their neck?

Who's being targeted with this? My wife is a legal perm resident and my sister in-law is on a work permit and nearing completing her perm resident application process. Is this going to impact either one of them? I've already told her she's becoming a citizen this year before something awful happens because of this man.

From the article:
Trump's orders were expected to involve restricting access to the United States for refugees and some visa holders from Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.

That's all we got so far.

if they start putting people in camps, that's the time for actual resistance right? A peaceful protest isn't going to get people out of camps

They seem to get away with it in Australia.

DS9 had that episode where decaying American cities had camps for the poor... they might have been onto something.

The news talks about restricting "access" so in other words entry to the US. As long as they are inside the country and are legal here, I wouldn't worry. I wouldn't leave the country if I were them though, especially your sister in law.

http://www.wsj.com/articles/trump-to-take-executive-actions-on-immigration-1485302909

WSJ reporting as well now.

WASHINGTON—President Donald Trump is expected to ban entry to the U.S. of people from countries that pose a national-security threat, one of several immigration-related executive actions that will come as soon as Wednesday, congressional officials said.

It is unclear which countries would be included in such a ban.

During the presidential campaign, Mr. Trump initially said he would ban entry by Muslims but later modified his proposal to suspend visas to people from any place “where adequate screening cannot occur.”

Nations to be included in the ban are expected to be principally in the Muslim world. One official said that Mr. Trump also would suspend acceptance into the U.S. of refugees or certain refugees.

P.S. "We're probably going to come back and take your oil. We might not but we'll talk about it endlessly to make you worry about it."

This really sucks and is getting scary the closer to home it gets. My sister in law can't leave anyways based on the restrictions she has to follow and we were anning a family trip to Mexico this holiday season, but now I'm not so sure if we should. We will definitely be starting my wife's citizenship application next month to hopefully rule out any risk with her green card.
