Trump Supreme Court pick Gorusch says Trump's attacks on judiciary are 'demoralizing'

Trump said:
The qualifications of Judge Gorsuch are beyond dispute. He is the man of our country and a man who our country really needs and needs badly to ensure the rule of law and the rule of justice.

From Trump's announcement. He has talked this guy up big every time he has mentioned him since. Trump is going to look beyond stupid if he goes back on this one. Hopefully the media runs wild with it. Good good!

He'll fall in line.

Pointless making these remarks knowing the fallout to ensue if that was the case. My guess is either Trump will throw a tantrum or he'll be forced to just agree to disagree with him like torture and Mattis. I personally hope he throws a twitter tantrum again. We'll see.

More plausible headline:

Aides of Trump Supreme Court pick Gorusch pander to Democrats to ease confirmation process

Or this.

This shouldn't be about making him look more liberal (because it doesn't). All I get from this is that he's a judge who actually believes in the power of the judicial branch of the government (and that it should be free from influence from the executive branch). Which he should, seeing as he's been in it for decades now. This doesn't make me think he'll "stand up to Trump" or anything like that, he'll still vote according to his very conservative views.

CNN reporting that the White House is confirming this...

Its literally the ONE thing they aren't lying about.

This was definitely a tactic.

100% agree.

So was releasing the list of terrorist attacks and incidents yesterday to get the media talking about all this shit.

Stoking the fires man. And it's all working for this administration.

This. It's just a bullshit play.

For getting nominated, yes.

It's remarkable how low Trump has set everyone's expectations, that a Scalialike will coast in because he believes in the idea of the judiciary.

I've actually started hoping for Pence to take over as President - normally, I'd be scared shitless of Pence destroying progressive movements.

Yet, here I am, more terrified of Donald Trump destroying mankind itself than I am of Mike Pence's ultra-religious dogma.

Better watch his arm or Trump will yank it off.

Or, he's just saying these things now in order to get the votes...

No Supreme Court filibuster and he doesn't need Dems.

Let's remember that, yeah, he holds some terrible, regressive beliefs, but he's a judge. He doesn't want the Executive branch stepping on the Judiciary any more than any other judge.

Yep, I could handle a Pence presidency. He's a Republican but we've managed to survive Reagan and Bush despite all their bullshit. Even though we're still feeling Reagan's fuckery. With that said with Trump we have to worry about the worst possible scenario for everything.

Trump seems to have taken his words as direct attack on him? Trying to misdirect now;

Remember that what Gorusch said was confirmed by his spokesperson.

Or was that another misrepresented statement by the spokeperson?

Even if spokesperson did misunderstand and misrepresent Gorusch it's isn't Trumps place nor job to correct the record. Gorusch and his spokesperson are supposed to do it. Trump weighting in can cause harm to process and kill Gorusch's confirmation.

Edit: CNN people now saying basically same thing; "Trump should have stayed silent"

Trump being Trump.

He'd be the enemy of a lot more than a couple extreme executive orders, and he'd hardly be Trump's worst enemy.

I mean, he's literally and figuratively Scalia's replacement, and we have enough judgements from him on file to know how conservative he is. People hoping for some type of "face turn" from him to become a more liberal judge don't really know how this works. At best, we can hope his decisions on some of the types of cases he hasn't heard before are less conservative than we're expecting (but the truth is that unless Trump and his people are complete and total morons, which is of course possible, they would have already asked him about most of this stuff before they decided to nominate him).
