Twitch: Changes To Audio In VODS

30 minute chunks? Really? How can this not blow up in their face when the robot inevitably starts flagging the wrong things? Are there seriously people out there that think twitch VODs are where people go to listen to unauthorized music?

I just dont see the mind set in this decision. Do they really think people are downloading a 30 minute stream to rip a 3 minute song out of it? Any song on youtube can be ripped so much easier. It completely baffles my mind.

What really pisses me off is that legitimate gameplay, with literally no external audio (that is to say all the audio comes from the game) has instances of muting.

It's insane. It's like Zynga rushing to buy DrawSomething. They weren't thinking about what they were investing in.

Even if they don't think something like ripping music is likely to happen, they can't exactly use that as a defense if someone comes after them. I'm curious to see what they say tomorrow though, since the service obviously isn't working out like they want it to.

uhh, sorry, what I actually ment was maggots..
Sorry, im not native english, and just saw that faggots is not what I ment.
Im sorry!

Those two words mean completely different things. It's hard to believe how you could confuse them. Couldn't be a typo either. The "f" and the "m" keys are pretty far from each other. We will see what the mods decide. But a good advice for life would be to refrain from using derogatory words.

Boom, 1 hour of Content down the shitter!

Simply amazing.

In a single day, so much was lost.

Protect starving artist? The majority of music that gets flagged are from multi-million dollar artist. If the music industry is hurting that bad, stop over paying these artist with ridiculous contracts.

In case it's not clear, this is a parody account.

It's a parody account that often makes fun any of the issues or drama that goes on at Twitch.

Uh, you might wanna check the Twitter username there.

In case you don't know TwitchtvUNsupport is a joke account.

What do you mean that it's not supposed to be in the database? Did the owners of the music not consent to having it in the database?

Yes, I it has been confirmed by the devs of Crypt of the Necrodancer that they never uploaded the music to any content matching company, yet their music is being flagged (even on one of the dev's own VOD).

It's a matter of copyright holders just wanting to exercise control of how and when their music is used. If you put a Beatles song in your movie, nobody is gong to watch the entire film just to hear "Hey Jude". That certainly won't stop the Beatles' record company from suing your ass.

I don't have a problem with music being regulated/not allowed. People who are all upset about that part are acting like huge spoiled children.

The in game music/30 minute part sucks big time tho.

Yeah but if you put a song in your movie, you need permission. ND, or whatever developer, gets permission and owns/pays for whatever sounds they use. It makes no sense.

So apparently Twitch silences 30 minutes of the video even when someone just sings a song really well on his stream.

Yeah, I think most of people will migrate to Azubu or Hitbox.

So you are fine with an in game soundtrack causing audio to be muted (even if the soundtrack is an original soundtrack that has not been upload to the company doing the content matches) ?!

No, which should be clear if you actually had read the second paragraph of my post. But well done buddy, well done.

If an artist wants his music protected I'm all for it. The side effects sucks.

So, uhm how's U-stream these days?

ustream is ok but hitbox is actually pretty cool. definitely would be a good alternative to twitch. hoping more people move to that if twitch continues down this path.

havent given up on them though, they have done a lot to be supportive of the FGC in the last year or two and if they sort it out that would be cool as well.

Posted this in the hitbox thread but if anyone is interested, Grav is doing a Doom 64 run and AdamAK is in chat talking and answering questions. He also plans to try out hitbox later tonight.

So far Peaches really enjoyed hitbox, also saw Werster talk about it some over Twitter. Unknown how many will make the jump or make it a side thing for when they may run something like GTA or Doom to bypass these copyright things.

Anyway, here's some Grav. http://www.hitbox.tv/grav

Closed my Twitch account because of this bullshit. Hoping streamers migrate to other sites.

League streamers aren't moving. As long as Riot doesn't move, LoL team streamers won't move, and league viewers won't move.

And the top non-League streamers already said they're not moving from Twitch (Syndicate, Sodapoppin, Goldglove, Lirik).

Of course they won't move if the company won't move. These copyright laws mostly serve the companies and sponsors. And those teams are tied to them.

They may try out hitbox but they certainly won't move for the long run. They're willing to put up with the abuse as long as it keeps them getting paid. It's business. Viewers will stay because many probably won't know any better and continue supporting their favorite teams and company.

It's a satirical account anyways (Hence the "Un"support)

Well its not like they have a reason to care and move over to sites like Hitbox.

The 30 minute part is pretty funny because Twitch just store their videos in 30 minute chunks. They make it seem like it's some type of dynamic scanning and 15 minutes before the song and 15 minutes after the song, but it's just "THIS CLIP CONTAINS MUSIC: MUTE".

Yeah, about that.

http://www.twitch.tv/rocksmithgame/b/550805072

I just found out the devs do these streams about the work they did charting the songs and how they play, etc. Except I guess we're not allowed to watch them later if we make the cardinal sin of missing the live broadcast.

I'd never had much reason to go to Twitch until I found that out, and then that happened. Can't say I'll be frequenting the place.
