Twitch streaming from PS4 is now live

Protip for you PS4 streamers: As of now, the PS4 does not automatically set the game for your channel, despite Twitch's API supporting the ability for apps to do this. Until the PS4 app is updated to add this feature, you'll have to manually set it on your Twitch dashboard here: http://www.twitch.tv/broadcast/dashboard.

Good thing for everyone reading this though, because you'll have better visibility on the game directories. Without manually setting your game, the only way someone would be able to find your channel is via the basic Browse Channels directory. Browse channels is ordered by number of viewers, highest to lowest, so it's very difficult to be discovered this way.

Hmm I want to stream but I don't want to play in a little box... I need to figure this out.

S0N0S, any ideas?

there are three options. You see on your TV what twitch users see:

1. windowed game, chat window below and camera window to the side (if you don't have the camera than the camera window just has a blank silhouette)

2. full screen game with picture-in-picture of the camera window in the upper corner (not sure if this is even available or not if you don't have a camera connected). no chat window.

3. full screen game. no camera or chat windows.

so basically you will want either the 2nd or 3rd option.

I never streamed to twitch before and was looking for this. Thank you so much. I saw some streams show up for KZ:SF and that was it. Will help to get better visibility to game streams. Would be nice if Sony eventually automatically changed the stream game meta to match the game you're currently streaming.

I suppose I can start collecting names and channels to add if/when the Team is up.

Done as well. I'm not sure how good I'll be at this streaming thing, but watching other twitch streams from the PS4 has made me want to really try it out. Thanks for doing this!

I've watched a few streams of this on my PS4. And oh god the quality of the streams is horrid. Everything I've seen has been a blurry mess.

I have a Twitch Channel - this sounds like a cool idea - I'd like to be part of this please

Sounds cool. I'll probably end up streaming mostly retro stuff but I'll definitely be playing around with my PS4 once it gets here.

Twitch's bandwidth is about to implode if a lot of people start streaming, I mean whats the downside to streaming? Wouldn't you always want it on if it doesn't hurt performance.

I'd be interested. I'll be streaming a bunch of stuff as I get it and find it interesting and provide commentary using what experience I have with this stuff.

I am interested. Hopefully I'll be getting my PS4 in December. Hope that's OK.

downside: Crap upload = bad experience online (for MP games) and bad viewing experience for people watching the stream (and possibly if you look at the internet while playing the game, slow nets)

Any ideas why my stream from earlier today doesn't show up under Past Broadcasts?

I do have archiving enabled on my profile. "Automatically archive my broadcasts" is checked.

This is something going into my giant feedback doc for the PS4 integration. It's very much possible as the SDK already supports it. For example, if you were to stream to Twitch direct from Path of Exile or Planetside 2, it knows to change the game you're playing on your channel.

I'm also wanting to suggest some light customization options. There's so much space not being utilized that it'd be great if people could load a picture stored on their PS4 as a background, so that people can promote their twitter/youtube/whatever while using the PS4 streaming. I'd also love to see games start to come with built-in backgrounds. Say you're playing NBA 2K14, you could have a theme for your stream based on your favorite team.

There's a load of potential here, and I'm glad that most y'all agree.

I wonder if you could clarify. IGN in a video and a few others said their streams weren't archiving but I see that this guy that was streaming yesterday has everything from his direct from PS4 broadcast. (Link.) Some others archived as well it seems.

I know yesterday that I tried to change my bio and it didn't work, then I tried a little later and it did. So, I'm wondering if some people didn't archive because of a glitch or something, or they stupidly didn't check the archive box, but it would be weird if IGN didn't know about that. So, do you know? Are your PS4 streams supposed to archive?
