I mean he’s not wrong that all-in apps like Weibo can be successful, but worryingly part of the reason it’s successful in China is that it’s easier for the government to shut you down if everything in your online life is reduced to a single provider.

In more democratic countries separate services that cooperate has been the norm and I’d say the later model is more resilient since it doesn’t have a single point of failure.
