It seems like insanity to me to drop the twitter branding, but then again I'm not the richest man in the world, so what the heck do I know.

guys life is an absolute parody within itself at this point, completely unhinged. It bothers me greatly how much power and money this loon has 🤣 we should all be concerned

Elon is the closest thing we have to a defender of free speech online, and he's proven over and over to be an idiot and a hypocrite, so I guess we're all just screwed.

Dropping the twitter name and logo is absolutely insane. You see the logo everywhere.

X is just absurdly generic

Lets not forget a Pakistani billionaire got into a tube held together with glue to visit the Titanic. Having more money doesn't necesarilly make you the smartest one in the room.

I don't care, I don't twit.

But, for the last year twitter was supposed to die 1,069,690 times according to the internet as a whole.

So, I am curious... when will it actually happen?
Rome didn't fall in a day. No empire does.

But they all spend a long time dying, and Twitter surviving the next couple years is going to be a a divine miracle at this point.

Wouldn't be the first time a major site has fallen. There was a time MySpace was untouchable.

The creation of threads posts a serious threat to twi-- i mean, 'x' longevity and it doesn't seem like Elon seems to have any clue how to turn things around.

Terrible idea. Twitter already has brand recognition and phrases. Look at what Zuck tried. It didn't stick, so only the parent company is meta, but everyone still calls it facebook

This doesn't surprise me though with the names of Elon's kids

Can't wait for the partnership with xvideos. Also, I imagine "X" is what a lot of people will be clicking on their browsers!! Hahahahaha!…..

I think everyone should just collectively give up trying to understand this man's thought process.

"I'm not leaving Twitter but Twitter is dead! RIP Twitter." - Twitter user

Seriously, all i fucking see is people crying that Twitter is dead/dying. Well fuck off then? Go use Mastodon/Threads and stop the bloody moaning.

Then who is? I've been asking, but no one has been answering. Which social media company is doing the best job of protecting US citizens from government influenced censorship of legal speech? If it's not currently twitter, which company is it?
Certainly not the guy caving to every authoritarian country's censorship demands, and excusing it by saying "well it's either do what they say or they shut us down."

Probably anything on the Fediverse, but definitely not Elon and friends.

Does there have to be one? None of them are. Protecting free speech is not a core tenet of any of their business models. Wishing they are something they aren't is missing the point.

Hahaha...so true. Dat autofill when typing X in browser 😆

I mean he's not wrong that all-in apps like Weibo can be successful, but worryingly part of the reason it's successful in China is that it's easier for the government to shut you down if everything in your online life is reduced to a single provider.

In more democratic countries separate services that cooperate has been the norm and I'd say the later model is more resilient since it doesn't have a single point of failure.

Musk is a fucking moron

I don't even mean this in the online "I disagree with his decisions" way. I mean he's just a really stupid person.
It took you this long to realise. It's the people behind him or the ones making the products not him. When he lets things be they are ok but when he tries to interfere etc he fucks shit up. Twitter has been him given free reign look how fast he turned it to shit.
