On December 30 of last year, ABC News reported on a 16-year-old Pakistani boy, Tariq Khan, who was killed with his 12-year-old cousin when a car in which he was riding was hit with a missile fired by a U.S. drone. As I noted at the time, the report contained this extraordinary passage buried in the middle:
Asked for documentation of Tariq and Waheed’s deaths, Akbar did not provide pictures of the missile strike scene. Virtually none exist, since drones often target people who show up at the scene of an attack.

The CIA’s drone campaign in Pakistan has killed dozens of civilians who had gone to help rescue victims or were attending funerals, an investigation by the Bureau for the Sunday Times has revealed.

The findings are published just days after President Obama claimed that the drone campaign in Pakistan was a “targeted, focused effort” that “has not caused a huge number of civilian casualties”. . . .

A three month investigation including eye witness reports has found evidence that at least 50 civilians were killed in follow-up strikes when they had gone to help victims. More than 20 civilians have also been attacked in deliberate strikes on funerals and mourners. The tactics have been condemned by leading legal experts.

Although the drone attacks were started under the Bush administration in 2004, they have been stepped up enormously under Obama.

There have been 260 attacks by unmanned Predators or Reapers in Pakistan by Obama’s administration – averaging one every four days.

What made that sentence so amazing was that it basically amounts to a report that the U.S. first kills people with drones, then fires on the rescuers and others who arrive at the scene where the new corpses and injured victims lie.

what the fuck

Up to 5,000 people attended Khwaz Wali Mehsud’s funeral that afternoon, including not only Taliban fighters but many civilians. US drones struck again, killing up to 83 people. As many as 45 were civilians, among them reportedly ten children and four tribal leaders.

what the fuck

no it's okay guys because like obama gave a cool speech and it was like completely funny and stuff so all is forgiven

Not just over there either (drones obviously but we're pretty good at mayhem all over). Welcome the US Empire folks.

Yeah. I was commenting on the use of these drones in the Pashtun area specifically. Iraq and Afghanistan might have been on Bush's hands but Pakistan is Obama's legacy and his alone.

Wow, I haven't gone over to the primary investigative source yet, but this is pretty damning (and damnable) if true.

My favorite (it sounds so awful when I put this way) is the shit the CIA has been doing in various South American and Central American countries for decades. Or fomenting wars and tribal conflict in Africa. Love you U.S..

I'm all for stopping terrorists and all this stuff, but really thinking about it, the US government has railed consistently on anything remotely resembling terrorism for 10 plus years now. When is it going to be time to just accept that you can't be the thought police on EVERYTHING and halt some of this stuff for a while?

When the movie and music industries stop trying to take over everything + 50 years.

We are taking a page out of the terrorist playbook. The good old "Double Tap" as Homeland Security has dubbed it.

After the initial blast another blast is planned to hit the people who rush to the first. Its a disgusting tactic that is usually very effective.

All part of that Nobel Peace Prize.

Omelettes and eggs =x

Seriously, in the words of someone great "War has changed".
They are really working hard to get around that whole "having to look the man you kill in the eye" thing.

This is something every American should be aware of by now unless they're blind, deaf, or dumb. "You mean we aren't the good guys?"

This is the same America that was marching in the streets because Bush was President but then suddenly went home when Obama came in and continued the same policies people were upset over before.

The joke's on Pakistan. A nuclear power that allows another coutry to kill its civilians and conduct drone raids every single day. Their goverment is a joke.

This so fucked up. I remember the video of the Apache attack that was released by wikileaks and how they shot at a van who tried to help the people.

I'm seriously hoping one of these drones goes rouge and "accidentally" shoots the White House when only one person is there. Take a wild guess who?
