Hell yeah. So is Echo And The Bunnymen's "The Killing Moon"... Hey, wait a minute!

You guys must really like Donnie Darko.

Also, Staring at the Sun is terrible Oasis-wanna be stadium rock. Boo to that.

90-2000 is a meh album by comparison, no doubt.

Heh, I like that CD as much as the 1980-1990 album...I really like Even Better Then The Real Thing, Mysterious Ways, Electrical Storm (though I don't like the version on that CD), One, Miss Sarajevo, Hold/Thrill/Kiss/Kill Me, Staring at the Sun and the Hands That Built America. Not sure how a U2 fan couldn't like those songs to be honest. Which isn't to say the stuff on the first compilation isn't solid gold...got a huge liking Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, Sunday Bloody Sunday, Bad, Unforgettable Fire, Desire, Angel of Harlem and All I Want Is You. Oh yeah, can't forget With Or Without You...my favourite U2 song (Bad, Unforgettable Fire and One are right behind), probably in my top 10 songs all time (hard for me to state what #1 is definitively...might be It Takes Two from Rob Base), and sounds so timeless it feels like it was made yesterday. Just a mindblowing track. But yeah, I do like both albums a lot. Then again I didn't grow up listening to U2 during the 80's, so I haven't been jaded by the difference in eras, or have a deep appreciation of the 80's era compared to the post 80's. (that's not a pot shot at anyone, just my own observation).

Funny enough I bought both albums only a few months ago when they were both on sale for ten bucks each, which is almost highway robbery. Threw 'em both on a MiniDisc, added a couple more songs to the playlist in the appropriate eras to fill out the space (Gloria and New York), and bam...over two hours full of wonderful U2 stuff. It's very cool. Also got a used Live from Boston DVD for like ten bucks. I'd love to see these guys at a concert, so hopefully I'll get lucky with tickets next year (I assume they'll be going on tour in 2005). And I'm really looking forward to Vertigo.

What other version have you heard/do you have? Because I was looking everywhere for this supposed "remix" they had playing on the local rock radio station when the song first aired-- it had somewhat of a faster tempo to it...very nice sound. I was never able to find out what it was. It was the same exact song, just better. :p Any help would be appreciated. :) And yes, Mysterious Ways also rocks-- you'll never hear a song like that again. Classic.

yeah the 80's/early 90's era U2 was my overall favorite band. i grew up on with or without you, still havent found and bullet the blue sky. later went on and checked sunday bloody sunday, war etc on my own. upto akhtung baby i was with them, but they turned too experimental for my tastes after that.
some of their latter singles i like though, that duet with wyclef jean was pretty good (father figure?).
anyway, with or without you is certainly one of the best mainstream rock tracks ever made, i love that bass track.

Well, it's my personal favorite song of all time. I am craaaazy about WoWY. I have about 40 different versions of it on my computer, and I once made a mix CD of nothing but different versions of WoWY. When I sing it at karaoke I always add the "secret" verses only performed live. I am a With or Without You fanboy!
Is the "secret " verse :
Yeah, we’ll shine like stars in the summer night
We’ll shine like stars in the winter night
One heart
One hope
One love

I always liked when Bono would add that verse in when he sings "With or Without You" on tour.

I've been lucky enough to have seen U2 six times live - starting from the Joshua Tree tour through the Elevation tour. If you have a chance to see them live--go!! U2 has put on the best live shows that I've seen. I'm guessing that they will tour to support the new album, which has been reliably confirmed to be called "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb"

Pretty stunning song, but I'm going to have to lay down my honours on Talking Heads 'Once in A Lifetime' and Paul McCartney's 'Maybe I'm Amazed'. If I were to make a Top 10 list of the best songs/singles produced in the 80's 'With or Without You' would most certainly rank well there. In fact... that gives me a fun idea. Later though.

The radio edit also had an extra guitar riff during the "You're in my mind all of the time..." part of the song and the main "Electrical Storm" chorus. It's pretty guitar heavy, and sounds better but The Edge's last guitar solo after the "Baby don't cry...." verses are shorter. The song is also a few seconds shorter than the 90-2000 CD version.

I found it on Kazaa BTW, but it's radio quality.

On topic, "Gone" is a pretty awesome, underrated song, especially the redone 2002 version. A lot of the songs from POP that got remade for the singles and the Best of 90-2000 sound a lot better than the original versions(except for Discotheque). Really shows that POP was an unfinished, rushed album.

I think it's the "Electrical Storm Ulrick Mix" it was taken off of BBC Radio :

Yup. He also sometimes adds a Joy Division fadeout:

Love / Love will tear us apart / Again / Love / Love will tear us apart / Again

And the lyrics of the "secret" verse are sometimes changed up a bit ... though what you have is what I'd consider the most common version.

On the most recent tour he added neither, though; I guess he's going back to a more traditional performance of the song.

Yeah, Once in a Lifetime is a top five song for me. So is Just Like Heaven, which someone else mentioned. Congratulations to good taste!

I think evil ways covered it...basically the song breaks into the guitar/drums a full verse earlier, which I prefer. I think if you do a search for "Electrical Storm radio", you'll be able to find it.

If you've seen U2 live it should be apparent that 'Bad' is their best song.

That said my favourite song ever is 'Something I Can Never Have' by NIN
