Ubisoft says Skull & Bones is now a ‘multiplayer-first’ game

Speaking during Ubisoft's latest earnings call on Thursday, CFO Frédérick Duguet provided an update on the game's new direction since it was internally rebooted in 2020, as per an exclusive VGC report published the same year.

"It's a very promising new IP focussing on multiplayer first, so very consistent with our strategy to bring multiplayer competition and co-op first in a big open world, with a great, attractive fantasy," he said.

"That's of course a longer development time that we've had on that game, but we're very happy with the artistic direction and the progress of the game so far."

I'll never get my single player story pirate game (I guess ac black flag is as close as we'll get)

Ubi really dropped the ball here. They had the perfect template for a great single player pirate game. AC Black flag minus the AC and more focus on the ships and pirating should have happened years ago.

This game is still kicking? Thought they canceled it.

Not sure about the multiplayer aspect. If it's like SoT I'm not interested.

Nah the focus needs to be sailing the sea and treasure hunting, not assassination, unless it's about taking over a ship.
Blag Flag was the best pirate game in years what are you talking about? lol have you even play it? it more of a pirate game than actually Assassin Creed

Meh, my interest in this game is gone. Already makes me think it's yet another game that is late to the party with hopes to score on ideas that have been around for a while. Just like their BR game.

Yeah it was alright but too much landmass, I want a proper pirates game where the sea is the focus.

Monkey Island is the definitive single player story pirate game, Black Flag only comes second and I loved it.

…as it always has been, but people seems to ignore this and I don't know why

Its always that way. From the trailer showcase, they said it was online multiplayer.

Was just going to say this.

Where are they getting "now"? That has always been the case to my understanding since it was announced.

yea this is shit reporting looking for clicks. The game from the very start was stated to be a online title. This is the tired shit that passes for journalism in gaming now days.

Yeah I thought so. I remember being interested in the idea but also a little disappointed with the lack of 3rd person boarding.
The funny part, is that they are the ones who made this type of game. Yet, they can't incorporate it in to this game

They had internal issues with the game. There was even talks about rebooting it.

Likely as to why the delays.

That being said, the rebooting seems to have more to do with design and likely other elements then to do with online or something. It seems like the person tha wrote the article is trying to reach for that ignoring it was always a GAAS title from the start.

lol true. Hopefully that was one of the things added in to the title when it was rebooted.

"Multiplayer first. . ." doesn't read as "Has multiplayer" to me. Hopefully they mean the same thing, because they absolutely said this would have a SP component and strong co-op and PvP separate modes.

. . .people who don't play SEA OF THIEVES don't want SEA OF THIEVES.

Forgot this was even still in development. How hard would it have been to make a game focused around the sailing in black flag?

Noe it will just be some shitty sea of thrives knock off, and the less I say about that game the better.

Exactly you'd think they would bring that over also
They are like EA. They bring good ideas, yet they can't incorporate on their other games.

We saw how jedi fallen order single player did, yet the fucked up battlefield 2042. Then you have ubisoft with black flag, and does the same thing as battlefield 2042.

Its like they are incapable of utilizing their games.

What? I thought the reason for all the delays was to add single player, the game was originally announced as multiplayer only and was supposed to come out in friggin' 2018, what have they been doing all this time if it's still multiplayer only?

But at any rate, very glad it's not been canceled and is still coming.

It was always a MP first game though they've always sold it as a multiplayer game.

no, remember, they need to say it wasn't ever going to be that to force the narrative that it TURNED into a GAAS to sell click bait shit.

If there's not going to be an offline, single-player storyline component, I no longer give a shit.
