Shad would get eaten alive at Heavy. Cain/Brock/Carwin aren't the same kinds of guys you fought on TUF. Middle would be interesting. I don't think he'd be able to touch Silva, but the division is pretty open after Anderson, and I guess you could always wait him out and hope he retires in a year or something.

I dunno, seen this pic the other day Bader seems to be bigger than Cain to me.

Rashad is short but i reckon he would go alright at HW. Still be boring though.

Bader is big for a LWH, but it's not just size it's strength. if Cain has the strength to shrug off a Brock takedown how will Shad have any chance?

Well it would be a stand up fight in that case.................

Vitor's face after the kick looked like something out of Mike Tyson's Punch Out.

I wouldn't mind Vitor/Bisping next to help Vitor get back on his feet, and also to see that asswipe Bisping get the shit knocked out of him again.

So how do you guys rank the craziest KO's in UFC history now? Silva/Vitor is up there, but Rich Franklin's KO of Nate Quarry might be the most brutal.

i loved that shit. Love Hendo and hate Bisping so it was extra sweet, and the diving forearm after was just icing on the cake.
It is a shame that Hendo ran off to the minors after that though. Would love to see a rematch.
Henderson was on a three fight streak if I remember right

Wish I could have been reading through this thread during the fight. The reaction posts are some of the most hilarious ones in all of GAF.

Silva's kick was a dead-ringer for Dhalsim's standing roundhouse kick, sans stretchy limbs.

Rampage should have been terminated for that bullshit. Wrestling against the ref in order to give two totally unnecessary punches to an opponent who has been completely KOd? Fuck you.

Similar kick, but he was disqualified for it since they were on the ground.
I just saw this last night, looking through Silva's wikipedia. I don't understand the rules there, why that was enough for a DQ. Since they are both technically down....it confuses me. If anything, Silva should've gotten a' bonus prize/sticker/car for that hit.

It is illegal to kick or knee the head of a grounded opponent. If your opponent has even one knee or hand on the ground, you cannot kick or knee their head. The fact that both fighters happen to be on the ground doesn't change that rule.

so the key to beating Silva is to immediately get on all fours when the fight starts and attack him like a dog?

That Silva kick would have definitely taken down a chimp.

Everyone who disagreed with me in the UFC vs chimpanzee thread just got owned hard.

Well Silva said that kick is legal in other MMA divisions, but it was illegal for that fight. That apparently wasn't explained to him by his translator.

Seems like a cop out to me especially given how he lost it after the foul. He knew he had done something wrong.

On a sidenote Brandon Vera committed exactly the same foul on Jon Jones and had a point deducted.

This guy is something else. Genetically gifted, we need to clone him. Imagine an army of Silvas.

Bad idea. Russia would steal the cloning technology and go on to dominate the planet.

I think that would have been the case, except Okami couldn't (or wouldn't - depending on who you talk to) continue.

I think its ridiculous how people are claiming that Shogun is the underdog in this fight. I don't want to take anything away from Jones as he is definitely going to be a future star in this division without a question. Yes Jones is dynamic, yet very green. I find it funny how people are counting Shogun out because Jones beat Bonnar and Bader. Please. Everyone expecting Jones to to use spinning elbows and leap frog over Shogun will be in for quite a surprise. Everyone seems to forget that Shogun is only 28 years old and has fought the best fighters from around the world. The only thing Shogun has going against him is his surgery from his knee.

If Jones goes in there expecting a fight like Bader or Bonnar than hes going to have a bad night. I see Shogun closing on the inside and putting the future star to sleep in the 2nd round.

-Spinning elbows? Hahahah. No he will just take down and pound the shit out of Shogun's no-TDD ass. Best hope for Shogun is that he catches Jones in a sub from the bottom. Possible sure; it's MMA. If he's smart he'll be working on a lot of stuff from his back because that's where he'll be spending most of the fight most likely.

-Goes in there expecting a fight like Bader or Bonnar? wtf? Do you know who Jones's trainer is and who his camp is? Yes I'm sure he'll come in totally tactically unprepared. I don't even think he knows who Shogun is or has ever seen any of his fights.

-I'm glad you already set up the surgery/injury excuse; I already called this one to be a big one post-fight.

You make it sound like he is going to take him down with ease, and if he does he will just get caught. The surgery is a major factor. Look what happened with him in the Griffin fight. Its way too early for Jones to get the shot. I don't think he is ready for top level competition like Shogun, Machida, Rampage etc. I would have liked to see him face Lil Nog, Forrest, Franklin, T. Silva for a warm up.

With Evans out, the matchup makes perfect sense. They need someone in six weeks because Shogun is actually ready to fight for once. He can't sit on the shelf forever and it's not like any of the guys you listed are better options. Page is fighting Silva (oh God how I wish Jones would get to annihilate Silva though), Machida is coming off a boring loss, Jones just dominated and finished the guy who dominated Diet Nog (who by any reasonable measure lost to Jason Fucking Brilz btw). I mean there's really no need to go on.

The only questionable part of Jones is his chin. We have never seen how how responds to getting hit.. but i doubt he's Lesnar pt2.

Otherwise.. he looks like an absolute monster at 205.

And i still dont know if shogun is "back". I dont care if he has the belt or not. As far as im concerned 205 hasn't had a real champion since Chuck or Page.

Has Jones taken any decent hits yet?
Couple shots from Bader, shot or two from Hamill. Wouldn't say any of those were KO shots but both of them especially Bader have power that would have a serious effect on anyone unprepared. It's kinda like how people say he hasn't been "tested," like it's his fault for dominating guys that are almost never dominated. If anything that should be a plus. Same for not getting punched in the face with power shots constantly.

I guess people are looking for the answer to what will happen if Shogun tags him on the chin with clean shots. Well in that case I'm pretty sure he will get KTFO. But in terms of striking he has handled himself well thus far. Vera as much as he sucks literally in every other aspect is a good striker (he even totally outstruck Silva imo it was just irrelevant because he was so bad otherwise) and Jones did fine with him. And again the question is how much of it will be a striking contest? Again, if it is, then almost certainly give the fight to Shogun. But Jones trains with some of the best tactical minds around. He's not gonna come in like Shlemenko saying "you think your good at striking foo' check out mah 50 spinning back elbows."

Shogun had some good fights against Machida, word. He should have won one boring decision and then he KTFO Machida who clearly had no gameplan for him in the second fight. Then Machida lost to Page. It's not like he's on this whole other level. If Machida dominated Page then I would put a lot more stock into those wins. Good wins definitely but that is why he is the champion and why this is a good fight.

dubious as rampage only defended the title 1 time dude, chuck was the last guy to defend the 205 lb strap more than once.

shogun whooping machida's ass two times in a row isn't enough to convince you?

shogun already ended the machida hype train, now he's going to have to derail the bones jones hype train.

at 23 shogun won the pride MWGP, probably the best tournament mma has ever seen. at 23 bones jones has beat some tomato cans, his best win is over bader, who hasn't really faced top competition either.

i'm not denying he's a great prospect and will have a great future at 205 or most likely HW, but let's not go and crown his ass. he's still got some holes in his game.
