Belfort has his TRT issue that makes it impossible to fight in Nevada.
Imagine him winning the title. You have a champion that can not fight in Vegas.

GSP and Jones are the only ones left who can touch what Fedor did, Silva just pissed away that chance. Hell, I dunno if I would put Silva over Igor Vovchachyn.

What exactly did Fedor "do"? And don't even mention Pride otherwise we have to bring Ken Shamrock's WWF career into the discussion.

I don't think Anderson Silva has to wait for Weidman to build himself up. This fight has effectively done that. Weidman will be well-known as the dude who knocked Anderson Silva out cold (this wasn't even a TKO, it was a straight up KO).

The smartest thing for Anderson - financially, legacy-wise, etc - would be to go for an instant rematch. The hype and interest around the fight would be huge, and the two big superfights - vs GSP or Bones - have certainly lost some of their luster.

Another reason a rematch would be big is that a lot of people probably feel like Anderson didn't "really" lose since he was caught while showboating, so they'll tune in to potentially see him fight more seriously.

To be fair, Silva isn't an idiot. He can do this whole "no rematch" stuff to bully White and the Ferttita's into paying him 1Mil+ for the rematch.

Vitor can only fight in Brazil and as such.. Dana is willing to do it for the gate alone. The desire for Brazilian vengence might actually pack a futbol stadium and Dana smells that cash. BUT.. if he can "convince" Silva to take the rematch... he'll do that instead for the worldwide PPV numbers.

That first hit once he hit the ground hit hard.

I watched this in a bar and so many Affliction shirted bros leapt to their feet to "I told you so" their boys.... The MMA crowd is maybe the last crowd I'd like to be affiliated with, next to the wrestling crowd that is.

The top 10 MW's must be going nuts right now, they can get title shots again now that Silva is out of the picture (for now)

Yushin Okami must be ecstatic

Or Rashad is going to drop down to 185 so fast for a title shot

Who did Anderson Silver ever really beat?

The Michael Jordan of BJJ Travis Lutter
Christopher Leben
Predator Cote
Sandman Irvin
Steve the American Psycho Bonnar
Thales Leites
K1 Damian Maia
170# Nate the Great

This certainly pales in comparison to a resume that features UFC Champions like Andrei Arlovski, Big Nog, Mark the Hammer Coleman, Tim The Maine-iac Sylvia, etc...

When Fedor lost to Werdum.

It was the same thing, too. A bunch of haters on one side saying they had been right all those years about Fedor being "totally overrated", and a bunch of fanboys on the other side mystified by the arrogance that Fedor showed by willingly hopping into Werdum's guard like that.

And the cycle continues....

Fedor threw that fight too. Makes sense that Sherdog reacted the same then as they did tonight, since both involve a fighter throwing the fight.

One thing's for sure, the MiddleWeight division just got 1000x more exciting.

That belt will change hands a couple of times this year.

Ohh man.

Im not sure if i should cry or laugh.

For me this was an insult to the championship....i dont know how Chris can come off this and be "super" proud, yes he caught silva, but he caught silva being a complete fool.

Ehh whatever, im just curious what the next 10 Silva fights will be......and this might be mean, but i actually dont really care what the next Chris wiedman fight is.

Champion or not, Silva being Silva is always an entertaining fight.

Can't tell if serious....

I don't believe in a million yrs that Anderson threw the fight but I do believe he's happy to take the immense pressure off of his shoulders

Silva and Fedor are two of the best MMA fighters that ever lived. If you disagree, go watch Downtown Abbey. /thread.

I sense sarcasm. I mean, I hope I do.

Sorry, but the UFC Heavyweight division during Fedor's run was complete shit and Pride is where the real competition was. Fedor should have jumped ship to the UFC when Pride went under, but he still had the most dominant fucking MMA run of all time.

it eventually happens to everyone

Yep. Jones, GSP, Aldo- they'll all lose their belts eventually. It's inevitable.

But none of them will be able to make as weird of a spectacle out of it as Anderson just did. He's the strangest, most baffling character in MMA. From the awfulness he made us sit through in the Maia and Lietes fights, to the superhuman shit he showed us against Griffin and Okami, to the heart and will he showed us in the first Chael fight, Anderson Silva has been the most awesome, unbelievable, horrible, frustrating, wacky champion in the sport's history.

Yeah I think he's gonna try to play this one cool.

I don't think anybody is happier than Vitor Belfort. But I would be surprised if Weidman's next fight isn't against Silva again. A finish isn't typically grounds for an instant rematch, but there are clearly some extenuating circumstances here (Silva's incredibly lengthy reign, the particularities of his contract, getting caught while showboating rather than being truly out-fought, the potential interest around a rematch, etc).

I'm actually bummed Silva got KO'd. I wanted the legend to continue, but his ego was his undoing. Sucks.

Shit happens.

I think he wanted his first loss to be like this, not saying he threw it but basically it puts an asterisk on the loss if people say oh he would have destroyed him if he actually fought.

That's the beauty of this arrangement. UFC have built Chris Weidman so poorly that no one knows who is he, or that he's about to mollywhop Canderson Silver on Saturday night for that matter. The whirl will truly be shocked by a fighter the UFC has never even bothered to put on pay-per-view.

Many of you are a little wet behind the ears when it comes to mixed martials, so let me paint a picture. Anderson Silva was 6-1 in MMA when he emerged from relative obscurity, much like Chris Weidman, to beat the perceived #1 welterweight in the world, the unbeatable Mach Sakurai. He also only had one fight in the UFC when he received a title shot and beat the #1 school teacher in the world.

History is destined to repeat itself. Chris Weidman, your next UFC Middlweight Champion of the World.

I bow to you, sir.

What is Silva "actually fighting" though? He's been showboating for years and riding his intimidation.

Exactly. People in this thread are saying "if Silva wanted to throw the fight he wouldn't have done it like this"

Then they go on to say "if Silva actually tried tonight he would have won"

...okay, sounds to me like this is exactly how he would have wanted to lose if he threw the fight

Anderson does crazy stuff and gets away with it, ANDERSON IS THE BEST

Anderson does crazy stuff and gets get knocked out, ANDERSON WANTED TO GET KNOCKED OUT

I still think hes the best, his post fight speech and the silliness make it seem like a "more" serious anderson could have done much much much much much better.

As some have said it does make it a bit more interesting, especially if Silva really isnt going for the belt again.

Maybe we can get another Silva-esc champ, someone who just works the competition?
"wishful thinking"

Welp the UFC just lost one of their biggest PPV draws, that's a damn shame.
