That gif delights me to no end.

Got your hat buddy! You can have it back though!

Would love to see this again with mousasi not having a year layoff. Dude seriously needs to ramp up the action. He is too methodical. Had that jab all night and didn't use it. Frustrating to watch.

Does methodical mean standing in front of an opponent doing nothing because that's exactly what he did.

Hahaha. Yep. One shot and no combos. Just looking for openings instead of providing pressure to create them. He was off tonight but that's the case a lot with him.

Fighter KD Sig. Str. Sig. Str. % Total Str. TD TD % Sub. Att. Pass Rev.

Machida 0 28 of 101 28% 35 of 108 1 of 2 50% 0 2 0
Mousasi 0 36 of 106 34% 66 of 138 0 of 3 0% 0 0 1

Yep.

I think Weidman probably runs through Machida, but Belfort/Machida could be real interesting.

Weidman beats Machida by the luxury of actually being a fighter. Belfort is probably too slow for Machida.

Give Mousasi to Bisping/Kennedy.

That was disappointing. Hope Mousasi can bounce back from this. He was far too tepid. Understandable in his last fight with the knee injury, but he needs to step it up now. For most of his career he's been aggressive and dominant, even against nasty strikers and grapplers (Manhoef, Mark Hunt, Jacare, Hector Lombard).

Yep.

favela rats screaming after everyone one of machida's blocked techniques got all the marks twisted.

First heel kick Silva landed was illegal.

But yeah... dude got smashed by Dong and so they brought him a tomato can so he could win in front of his home crowd. That Dong KO was so beautiful and the silence was amazing.

Main event... ehhh, I expected it. I am a huge fan of both guys and hoped one would pull out of the fight because I didn't want to see either lose, but Machida did what Machida does. He was very quick. Hopefully Mousasi gets another shot. Not a great showing for him, but he showed he has a chin and Machida is just so good. And that sweep he landed was awesome.

Machida is the MW Clay Guida. He's just bouncing around and gesticulating distracting the audience from his inaction and blocked or parried punches. He barely landed any clean strikes in that fight as evidenced by the infallible fight metric.

Marks were told for how many years how special Clay and Ryuto were by Joe Rogan, and the fans ate it up.

Favela rats screaming for every blocked strike didn't help either.

Machida was never about pleasing the crowd, technical and defensive. Boring to watch for many sure but i like that about him. He'll only get better from this... He's The Dragon.

Yo if the Iranian wanted a fight he would of pressured instead of circling the inside hoping for an opening. I was hoping after the Thai clinch, knees would of happened, I enjoyed the fight but it was basically a full contact points match with out the brutality of your UFC match. At least they didn't try to lay on top of each other for five rounds. I though mousasi had a chance in round 5 guy seems to be a great Thai boxer but machida is one fast fucker.

The main event was a good, technical fight. Both guys were throwing fakes to try and get the other to jump or commit at the wrong time. I really don't understand why people want to see guys winging sloppy haymakers in the pocket.

this is PrideFC style booking. bringing in a Japanese tomato can for an over-hyped Brazilian.

That's the biggest farce of the night. Erick Silva gets KTFO in his last match so they give him a Japanese can to crush and to get a performance of the night award. At least give him someone that's not a jobber.

Its not the lack of "just bleed" that's a problem. Its the false presentation of activity and psuedo engagement. Too many people, particularly those in a position of influence, get lulled into it. Dancing around while your shots are defended does not inherently grant you the advantage. Granted, it wasnt a "bad" fight but i personally haven't given a shit about a lyoto fight for some time. Though really I always forget how fast that fucker is.

Either way, somewhat dissapoiinting card. And lol @ feeding sato to silva. Fucking joke. And that brazilian crowd never ceases to amaze...

i was half paying attention but i liked the fight.... it would be nice if ryu was a bit more aggressive but yeah ive seen worse and lord knows theres way more uneventful nights on the ground than standing up

It got FOTN. It wasn't bad at all. A nice technical stand up fight similar to Shogun vs Machida 1, which was great. Machida haters are always reaching for the stars.

Everyone who didn't enjoy the fight can take solace from the fact that a) it will most likely never happen again, even if one of them gets the belt and b) it will reduce the number of Gegard and Lyoto fanboys debating about whose kata is smarter.

Heh, here's what.... a lesser chin would've caved in at least one of those kicks. I don't blame Machida.

That said, Machida clearly under-performed and showed a lot of holes in his game last night. I don't think he can mount a challenge against Weidman. He was uncharacteristically sloppy controlling the range, and got hit with some shots that made no sense. Relied on his speed too much.

Lyoto fights his style, which is karate style. He waits for the chance to land a big shot and when he gets the chance he takes it. People need to realize that Lyoto is never going to look to string together combinations. He's a karate fighter and in karate you don't look to string together combinations or trade. He was landing head kicks and Mousasi was taking them. There is nothing Lyoto can do about that except stick to his plan and look to land something big again.

There's different types of striking besides boxing guys.
