Between the 10fps framerate, heavy fog, 90s-style digitized sprites, jerky animation, ultra-low-res textures, and muddy color palette, it's like a perfect storm of horrible visuals. It's so hideous it wraps back around to being cool again.

I'll agree that GTA5's writing was cringeworthy and juvenile, but the world was gorgeous.

I'll indulge. How is it misogynistic? By having shitty female characters? Not like the males are saints, that's kinda the point. The satire was a little too on the nose and fell flat at times but I really enjoyed some of the humor and absurdity in the cutscenes, thanks in part due to the excellent VA performances.

Definitely a game that you don't stick around for the visuals. The quests, the "sandbox", and player interaction make it great

Also, it's a browser game that was made to run on ANY system. It's limited by both these factors. Creating a sprawling open world in a browser in that day and age is a feat unto itself.

I consider GTA games to be punk rock; it's cruel, harsh, black and white satire, no subtlety. Personally I love it for those reasons; there's no middle ground.

There isn't a single female character in that game (MAYBE barring that one hacker lady you can take on a heist) who isn't a negative existing REAL WORLD stereotype of women - vapid, irritating, nagging, selfish, self-absorbed, manipulative, stupid etc. The male characters might be pieces of shit but there is actual DEPTH to them - we are given looks at their motivation, their feelings, etc, while the women are consistently viewed as getting in the way of everything. Women exist only in the GTA V world to be sex objects or to irritate the player. This article about the portrayal of sex workers in the game for example is good.

As for visuals, I'm going to put forward Shadow of Mordor on PS360.

Arcen Games' "A Valley Without Wind" is an aesthetic horror-show, with wildly clashing art assets and poor animations.

While Arcen Games has not been know for good visuals, historically, AVWW also fails at being an enjoyable experience, though it does have some interesting ideas. It was also such a catastrophe on launch that the sequel was later given for free to everyone who owned the first game. The sequel was, however, not very good either.

I honestly think Bubsy 3D as a certain aesthetic appeal to it's flat shaded polygons and clean overall look. I'm not saying that it is a great looking game, but it does look better in screenshots than it does in motion. It has an indie look to it. I can think of a lot worse looking PS1 era games (at least in still screenshots, anyway).
