It still is the 2nd biggest market, despite how bad it looks.

Oof
Why highlight the graph from the physical software sales section? Physical sales represented less than 7% of sales of total software sales, and declining. Literally the least healthy and representative part of the total spending of the gaming industry. Why not the other graph where MS has a bigger slice of the pie than Nintendo? (We know why)

What? That's software by brands.
Confusing it with this one?

Astro Bot charting, while Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Star Wars Outlaws and Dragon's Dogma 2 are totally missing from the list.

So, marketshare for Playstation in 2024 in UK was more than Nintendo + Xbox combined.
Xbox has become pretty much irrelevant in it's second strongest market.
Pathetic.

Interesting to see consoles being bigger than PC, with Playstation and Nintendo both doing extremely well. In the UK.

And yet people on GAF still think consoles will die out in a few years. LOL!!
Ps portal at 143k is pretty decent, the perctange of the userbase who have bought one in the UK is above 3%, so similar to what circana said for north america.

If we extrapolate for rest of the world it is easily 2 million+ sold world wide, so easily tracking above other handhelds like steamdeck assuming those estimates for analysts are somewhat accurate.

Not so bad for a DOA device...

Yeah estimated 2.3 million PS Portals were sold in 2024. That's incredible! And most of that was before the black version was released and Cloud gaming was added.

With the mass market now aware and expecting every Xbox game to come to PlayStation, outside hardcore fans people who MUST have Gamepass it's a certain no.

I'd say there's only an audience of about 10 million who would buy such a device.

If Microsoft changed their third party strategy and went back to exclusives they've already confused the market and damaged their brand too much to recover.

Once Halo, Gears, Fable and Forza are one PlayStation they will have reached a point of no return for the brand.

I'd say MS has a clear audience of 20 million MAX world wide if they launch a new console in 2026 for all the reasons you state. I think almost every Xbox Gamepass subscriber will stay will their Xbox console next-gen. And from my understanding there's about 20 million Xbox real GP subscribers. And about 10 million PC GP subs.

Reread the preceding paragraph in which that graph is. They calculated Games Market Brand by DISC SALES aka physical sales. Also, you will notice that the physical game chart sales you shared is the same as the Games Market Brand

Physical Games Market Chart above has Xbox: Xbox Series 7%, Xbox One 1% (total 8%); PS: PS5: 41%, PS4: 9% (total 50%); Nintendo: 40%. Now, remove the PC 2% in the Physical Games Market Chart above and you get the below Games Market Brands of PS: 51%, Nintendo: 41%, Xbox: 8%.

RIP uk and europe monthly reports.

Man this SUCKS!!!

Astro Bot charting, while Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Star Wars Outlaws and Dragon's Dogma 2 are totally missing from the list.

And Helldivers 2 sold more on PS5 in the U.K. than it did on PC. 55% on PS5 and 45% on PC!

Yeah the numbers are shockingly low for PC software sales. Call of duty digital console vs PC is at ~ 4.5:1! Anyone know what this looks like in the US?

So if you include digital, PC would grow larger, Nintendo would shrink (since they don't share digital sales for their own games and I think people are more likely to buy physical on Switch), not much else would change.
I didn't see a pie chart of digital included though.

Since PS5 became the best-selling hardware, it has become increasingly difficult to obtain sales information, and IGN was certainly going to cut off the gamesindustry tap once it was purchased.

Did anybody else realize how TLOU2 is on the charts for UK's highest selling games in 2024? Or are we all supposed to just ignore that?

Now this is interesting. Can you "rent to own"?

You can give them a call for a price at the end of the lease term. The don't say how much though.

Can kind of see the attraction. £432 for a PS5 with disc over 3 years, vs about £450 up front to own. Downside: it's not yours at that point. Upside: on the never never, not on the hook for hardware failures, probably see you through to the end of the generation.

Am i just reading this wrong or are things looking bleak if youre not a mobile game dev. Those numbers are only gonna skew further in that direction. Or am i misreading it?

You do understand that PC & Console games are selling more than ever in the last few years right? ( Besides on Xbox)
