Yep. As I said in my above post, throughout the last twenty years, the politicans on both sides have made an effort to make the police more inclusive and diverse, after the crimes and cover ups of the 70s and 80s. The over correction has been horrifying, and the UK police force has had its teeth removed.
Couple that with endless cutbacks and austerity measures that have removed thousands of police from the streets, and this is what you get.
Edit: more diverse and inclusive for MEN it should be noted. The misogyny has never really gone away, or at least other things have been deemed far more important.

It's telling that the British media either aren't reporting on Jess Phillips' refusal to instigate an enquiry in this or instead are more interested in reporting on the people criticising Phillips.
These girls were often the dregs of society. No family, the schools don't give a shit, moved from care home to care without anyone really knowing they exist.
A handsome young guy pops into their life, starts paying attention to them, gives them cigarettes and alcohol, says they are their boyfriend. The girls desperate for attention or love or just the addictive drugs they were already taking go along with it.
Then the "boyfriend" takes them off somewhere and they are raped by the men who were waiting for the victim and the police have a bunch of witnesses to see that she was hanging around them for a while and claim it was consensual.

All reasonable people should just refer to England as the rape capital of the west until they actually make an attempt to right the wrongs. I lived in Rotherham for over a decade until about three years back.
It was still a very hot topic. It was fucking frustrating when people would outright call you a conspiracist/ racist for bringing it up.
I'm not going into details but a young family member of mine was effected by this. That side of my family ended up moving to France because of it.
This is WELL over due and I'm glad it's finally getting attention.

BTW Is there a reason why this story is suddenly blowing up? I read about Rotherham grooming gangs molesting hundreds of teenage girls more than ten years ago. It was then already reported that police and local government were looking the other way in almost all of those cases because they were afraid that if the public were to find out it would cause racial tensions.

I brought this up to my family a few months ago. They thought I was making it up, that I'd been looking into conspiracy theories. They were shocked to see it confirmed on wikipedia. I didn't know the details then, and I don't think I want to now. Absolutely horrific. The biggest disgrace imaginable that this injustice is allowed to continue. I wouldn't be surprised if perpetrators were lynched for this.
Regardless of any potential ulterior motives, this needs to be fully aired out in the sunlight and put a stop to, with everyone involved held to account.
