Who are you using?

Oh I am just spectating for now.

But I am playing Merkava because it seems to be an easier character to pick up. My personal troubles so far are against someone who plays way more Anime games and fighting games in general and they play Vatista.

So I prefer a slow paced defensive game my self because I am scared to go in and really have no idea how to apply pressure. However they play a character thats better suited to that so really I just have a lot of trouble getting in. Whats worse is that I get opened up really easily when they decide to go in. So not only can't I apply pressure I also can't handle the changes in the match rhythm.

Sounds like you should be playing Gord or Wald.

Honestly while Merkava can defensive he is WAY stronger once he is on top of you going ape shit.

Maybe give Carmine a shot as well.

Edit: Rhap you are probably a lot better off saving the Vorpal for after you do the super. If it hits you get 3.6k easy, if it's blocked you just cancel anyways and be safe

I wanted to give Gord a shot but I'd probably need to spend a good deal of time in training mode with him.

My inputs are too slow for him, I miss linking 5C and the mortal slide inputs quiet often.

Edit: I'll try Carmine, he is someone I haven't touched at all.

Hmm? Gord combos are really slow and simple are you trying to do them too fast? If you can do Merkava combos you can do Gord combos easy

My poor health lol

Edit: Those weird lobby glitches

Edit2: GGs Q. I don't like playing patient in this lol Got to go study for summer finals though.

For the life of me I can't figure out seth, and I really really want to be good with him too. how the heck do I land the 6C in 5A > 5B > 5C > 214C~C > 6C > j.236B etc.? i'm fine up until the 6c part but the opponent always recover before the 6C hits. What do? Also for another combo in this video https://www.youtube....h?v=BB-BZAv6xYc in the beginning where he does 2a>2a>5b>5c>214x~C>66C>623b> etc I can also for the life of me not land the 66C. What am I doing wrong and can someone shed some light for that?

For the first combo, there's no real trick to it. Just got to learn how to link 6C after the 214C~C. It'll get easier later on.
The same goes for the second combo. You'll just have to practice.

Eventually you'll get a feel for it.
Bodying us and bouncing. Didn't even buy us dinner! ggs

That was rough. I'd definitely like to play you again to improve my defense.

You won one though!

I still feel really awkward when I get in with Vatista. I feel like I need to plan out what my pressure is before I get in because it will probably involve holding charge or holding a button. I still don't have frame traps against people mashing either. Can someone explain why people respect Vatista's orb/gem pressure to me? I can't figure it out lol.

Ggs, OceanBlue, Joule, and Xero

Again, I've played for way longer than originally intended... smh

Well, I keep thinking it's a frame trap and you're going to explode it, but then you just put another one out there lol

That's actually just me messing up my combo lol. Also, if someone puts out a gem in a blockstring it's usually pretty minus (I think it's actually punishable at close range). If you have the range you can just hit her out of any move she tries to use to activate it, I think.

ggs guys. I definitely need to play more games where I just practice one blockstring over and over .__. . I also need to work on my fraudulent Gordeau lol.

GG everyone, i was the fraudulent eltnum that was a punching bag for everyone. I really need to improve my neutral, my pressure and definitely need to get more match up exp. This play session was really fun, watching everyone play was really entertaining.

Oh, didn't realize you were a gaffer! Ggs to you too

Also I can't believe how many times I missed j.C tk. drill on people blocking low! ;_;

Ahaha, that's a lot on your plate. I'm messing up a ton of shit and playing multiple characters so I shouldn't be saying this, but maybe it'd be better to focus on one thing and work on that until you're good before working on another. Just be bad like me and only learn pressure and not matchups or neutral lol. Still, ggs. I hope I can catch everyone here more since I definitely don't play you guys enough.

Edit: Oh, I just realized that, since grab recovery is so long, I can charge up and do an instant overhead on people after grabs in the corner. :D

Doesn't the game have instant overhead protection?

Doesn't the game have instant overhead protection?

Only for rising jump normals. Specials still count. I think Byakuya has an instant overhead because of that too.

Edit: What is the typical Eltnum BnB off of 2A? I'm not sure whether doing 2C 5[C] 421B j.B j.C 66C is better than doing 2C 5[C] 421B 6 421A 2C 22B. They're both kinda difficult for me lol. Also the 4 whiffs on some characters for some reason. .__.

Edit 2: Okay, I think I got the timing for 421B j.B j.C 66C now. It also leads to 2 gunshot reps while I can only get one for 421B 6 421A 2C 22B. I don't know if that's just me though lol.

Lol that's how I feel. My play is still really awkward compared to people who have played a lot of games online.

So when Orie players do j.2C j.214B, what are people getting hit by? I keep trying it in training mode and I'm always able to block both sides because of crossup protection.

The majority of the time they are mashing or just confused. From what I've heard, it can become a cross up in certain cases.

If you can hit confirm it, I think 2A 2C j[C] whiff j.A 5B 5[C] 421B whiff 5A 2C 22B dash C reload works
This is a harder one, but it's good to learn. Charged 6B whiffs on Linne especially if you started your combo close to her. Same goes for Hyde and maybe Seth.

I'll use Eltnum more against you next time if you want. Eltnum's still my best character, but I just need to adjust to connections.

To be honest, I don't know which one is her optimal one off of a 5A/2A starter since I've been autopiloting to her simple combos online. I'll mess around with it next time.

Oh wow, it does cross up? Maybe they know a setup or something. Regardless, I don't really get why it works, but I'm no top Orie lol.

I think I'll go with a combo that lets me do two 2As. I don't think I can hitconfirm off of one.

Lol, honestly I don't mind whoever you want to use against me. I'm still at the point where I'm becoming comfortable doing things. Once I stop worrying about how I structure my blockstrings mid-match, I'll probably start thinking about matchups. Eltnum seems like a fun character though. I like her design too. :D

Edit: I'm probably overcomplicating the blockstrings I should be using to be honest lol.

I'll bug somebody to bug Tonberry, he's the one who messed with it.

As far as I know both hits are high so I guess people don't expect the second hit if they block the first.

If both hits are blocked I usually go into a ground blockstring.

Oops, didn't see this. I messed with this a bit in training mode in the past.

j.2C definitely has crossup protection. You can block left/right on that specific spacing.

Special canceled into j.214B, the special sometimes has crossup protection and sometimes it doesn't (depends on how you space it).

I think Row's opponent held down-right which made him block the j2C (since it can block both ways), but got hit by j.214B because he held right instead of down-left. If it's not that, maybe he just down-left the j.2C and switched blocks for some odd reason.

Either way, the j.214B is never a cross-up, despite looking like one at that angle. So if you switch blocks, you'll get hit.

tldr; Just assume that both don't cross up and you should be fine.

Both are mids actually.

Ggs OceanBlue. Sorry, gotta go.

Obviously I still don't know what to do when I'm suffocated like that.

It's okay, you said it had to be quick. Ggs.

Yeah, getting rushed down seems really hard for Hilda. I noticed that you didn't use Veil Off. This is just me speculating, but I think it's basically Hilda's only way to get people to respect her wakeup (especially since having no assault against Hilda seems tough). Once I start trying to bait that, you can use it to wakeup 2A or whatever to escape.

Edit: Uhh, wtf?! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1LVLOnEFjS8

Well, I'm still learning the game and mechanics and actually haven't checked what Veil Off is yet lol. You'll also notice that I don't barrier block or use my roman cancel when I have vorpal to make things safe or extend combos. That's because I forget I can do those things lol. Also, assualts and airdashing! I have just been focusing on learning Hilda's different options in neutral, her combos, and her setups after stuff like lynchpin.

Although, I need to work on my execution first though. I keep getting her qcf projectile in combos when I mean to do her dp. In other words, I still have a lot of work to do!

Oh okay, that makes sense. Sorry, I've been watching the game for a while and just assume everyone understands the mechanics because I've been exposed to the game for so long .__. . I think your execution isn't that bad though! You were hitting that 3k combo on me in multiple rounds.

Edit: Oh yeah, I forgot about guard cancels lol. I guess I'm not as familiar with the mechanics as I thought.

I usually avoid guard cancels. I find them pretty weak in this game. They're sometimes not a bad option in Vorpal state, but sacrificing all my GRD blocks and Vorpal State is a huge loss for a comeback. Resetting backing to neutral isn't guaranteed of course either if you don't time a good one. There's also the matter of gaining enough GRD blocks before the next cycle to get Vorpal again.

And doing them outside of Vorpal state is like a big no for me.

Yeah, I feel the exact same way. I don't really see guard cancel used that often in Japanese videos either, which is why I forget about it lol. That said, all of the characters I'm interested in have alternative wakeup options so I don't worry about wakeup as much. With Hilda, especially at the level some of us are at now and with online being the way it is, you probably have to take what you can get.

A lot of us (me included) don't really manage GRD as well as we should. I personally feel like I use Chain Shift too liberally even when I'm winning, when it might be better to keep my GRD blocks so I can keep vorpal away from my opponent. I also really only use it on wakeup, when the characters I play benefit a lot with meter, so that should be something I consider as well. I don't shield for vorpal as often as I should or break other people's vorpal with Veil Off either.
