Why is South Carolina being called for Romney? Seems like the view votes that have been reported show Obama leading by a huge margin.
News organizations pay close attention to which precincts have reported, and also compare what's going on to pre-election and exit polling.

So who's winning?

Romney currently has first blood, but so far there's been no swing states nor any upsets: Romney has had a bunch of safe states put into his column, while Obama has had one safe state in his column.

Pile of polls close in 15 minutes, expect a bunch more safe states declared around then.

They just said SC for Romney on FOX even though he only had 25% of the vote, but CNN is now saying Obama in SC. WTF IS THIS.

South Carolina will be won by Mitt Romney. We don't need the vote results to know that. The counties currently reporting show an Obama lead, but his lead is not sufficient that later on, when Republican-leaning counties report, Romney will win. That explains the difference.

Like, imagine that Austin reported its votes first in Texas. It'd appear that Obama had won Texas. Obviously Obama won't win Texas. So even if it seems like he is, we still know he won't. (It works the other way around--Romney's margins in Virginia will shrink or disappear as blue-leaning counties begin to report).

Probably longer. Texas has a Democratic presence, but not enough to make a difference. The only state as red as Texas is OK...and that's not changing anytime in our lifetimes.

The only reason I didn't say more than a decade was that I could see a charismatic Hispanic candidate coming along and making the state more competitive. There are a lot of Democrats here in Texas that don't bother voting for their party because they know how much a chance they have. Make that seem more competitive and I think we'll have more Democrats than one would think coming out of the woodwork to vote.

FL swinging back a bit?

Just a wild guess, but this is going to be too damn close to call tonight. Strap it on.
