UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson assassinated

Why would someone be carrying a manifesto if they didn't intend/expect to be caught eventually? Not trying to be a dick but cmon, guys. Its not that hard.
You don't try to evade detection and travel to a different state if you intend to get caught.

I imagine part of it is just the thrill of the chase. He strikes me as someone who is probably intelligent enough to know that there's only one way this would end for him. Again, the fact he kept a manifesto and all the evidence with him really says it all, in my opinion.

My guess is, given that he likely turned to drugs like mushrooms to deal with his back pain, he’s probably not thinking straight.
What do you mean, "likely"? Has this been confirmed, or are you just assuming? I've done mushrooms many times, last thing on my mind was killing anyone.

Edit: I'm not saying it's impossible, just highly unlikely, also, I've never heard of using mushrooms for relieving physical pain.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

What is this bullshit reporting lol

Get ready for another round of senate hearings denouncing violence in video games.

Whatever, he’s using illegal drugs. He’s probably not thinking straight.

Has the manifesto been released anywhere? All I’ve seen are small excerpts in news articles. Assuming it will probably be a bit before we see the whole thing but figured I’d ask.

The only drugs I'm aware of were the prescription pain killers given for his back surgery which (allegedly) caused him to lose his mind, shut everyone out and go to Japan.

I suppose those would be illegal if he is still on them and his refills ran out. Is there something I missed?

From my experience with mushrooms, they're going to be the last thing you'd want to use to manage pain. They make you acutely aware of your body. If you had any body pain prior to the trip, it would become a focal point of your experience.

I once tripped while having a tooth ache due to an infected cavity. It was a nightmare. The pain became so much more intense, or rather my perception of the pain. My trip became a 4 hour meditation on the nature of pain and suffering.

What do they call it? “Parallel Construction”? You’re telling me some old ass grandma who probably doesn’t even know how to turn a tv on recognized this boy from the grainy ass pics released and alerted the McDonald’s employee?

I don’t know. Feels like the fbi did some privacy invasion unconstitutional shit to track this guy and that was set up as a cover story

Not looking so cheery anymore is he? Whatever happened to him, he's gone off the deep end.
Pointless theatrics because he knows the world is watching. He won't be the catalyst for a revolution like he thinks he is.

He clearly put a lot of work into his planning. Shame he didn't do something more productive than cold blooded murder. He will be old news in a few days when updates become less frequent. Way to ruin your life and so many others for nothing. His parents must be devastated.

I think people are buying “his story” too quickly. The evidence he had back surgery is he told a friend he did and sent him that picture in his Twitter banner.

Thing is, that was chronologically after his unhinged Unabomber book review, which that same friend said caused the demise of a book club he was running.

This is all random speculation but it wouldn’t shock me if we find out he never had back surgery, and that he was an infamy seeker creating a back story for himself (pun…..intended.).

It all just falls apart for me because he was a super rich kid living in some commune in the penthouse of a fancy building in Hawaii lol

He also moved to Japan supposedly for six months before all this, but that could be a lie too. Either way it just doesn’t fit anything of this back story either. If you are allegedly hooked on pain pills moving countries is a bad idea.

He’s not experienced true hardship, having come from a life of privilege since birth.

Should've read Herodotus.

~~~~~
When Solon thus allotted his second place for happiness to these, Croesus was now more annoyed. “My Athenian guest,” he said, “are you disparaging my own happiness as though it were worth less than even a common man?” Solon replied, “Croesus, you have asked me about human concerns, and I know that the gods are jealous of human prosperity and disruptive of our peace. [2] Over a long period of time, a man will see and experience many things he would rather not. If we set the limit of a human life at seventy years, [3] these seventy cycles of seasons provide 25,200 days, without the intercalary months. But if you want to make every other year a month longer so that the seasons occur at the proper time, add thirty-five intercalary months to the seventy years, and from these months you get 1,050 days. [4] All these days in the seventy years add up to 26,250, and any one of these days brings with it something completely unlike any other. And so, Croesus, human life is pure chance. [5] You seem to be very wealthy, and you rule over many people, but I cannot yet tell you the answer you asked for until I learn how you have ended your life. You see, the man who is very wealthy is no more happy and prosperous than the man who has only enough to live from day to day, unless good fortune stays with him and he retains his fair and noble possessions right up until he departs this life happily. For many wealthy people are unhappy, while many others who have more modest resources are fortunate.
The man who has great wealth but is unhappy outdoes the fortunate man in only two ways, while the fortunate man outdoes him in many ways. The former is more capable of gratifying his passions and of sustaining himself in adversity, but the fortunate man, although he does not have the same ability to sustain himself in adversity or passion, avoids these anyway by virtue of his good fortune. Moreover, he has no injury, no sickness, no painful experiences; what he does have is good children and good looks. Now if, in addition to all these things, he ends his life well, too, then this is the man you are looking for; he alone deserves to be called happy and prosperous. But before he dies, refrain from calling him this—one should rather call him lucky.”
Maybe this will kick off a new range of shootings? School Shootings are so last decades, CEO Shootings are the hot fashion.
Note: And before anyone comes at me, I'm saying this in hopes of less school shootings, because school shootings in America fast become old news and are no longer important, kids dying is no longer big news, think about that.
I’m telling y’all. Whole story just reeks of bored rich attention seeker.
Dude was going around the world fucking off and doing whatever he wanted right up until this shooting. Went to Hawaii to live in some penthouse commune to surf for a couple of years, then went to Japan to be a weeb.
Real anti-capitalist freedom fighter here.
No, I don't think CEO shootings will become the hot new thing, nor would have any impact on the amount of school shootings. Weird comment.
It's linked to your comment about this becoming "old news", if a school shooting happened at the same it'd already be long forgotten in the news cycle.
The murdered CEO was the son of a factory worker in Iowa. He went to public school and state university--valedictorian at both. Married his college sweetheart, raised a family, worked his way up the corporate ladder over decades.
The assassin's family owns country clubs for the ultra wealthy; net worth of >$50 million. Cousin is a politician. He went to private school (valedictorian) and UPenn (ivy league). Lived a life of a trust fund kid, became disillusioned while traveling the world and reading extremist literature.
Everything becomes old news quickly nowadays. The assassination attempt on Trump was out of the news cycle in a couple weeks and that was a far bigger story than this is.
This guy hopes that he will inspire people with his theatrics, but that won’t happen if people have moved on.
It’s all Tekken’s fault. Turned Japan into a bunch of NPCs that obey traffic rules.
