Pledging my allegiance to STANNIS! STANNIS! STANNIS! for tonight (or tomorrow for UKers like me.) May he smite his foes and reign long over westeros.

When the trumpets blew again and the knights charged, the name they cried was 'R'hllor! R'hllor! R'HLLOR!'

I kid, I kid. I'm really hoping this is where TV Stannis starts to take on a bit more of Book Stannis. Book Stannis is one of my favourite characters, and his portrayal in the TV show is made worse by the fact that Stephen Dillane is actually a brilliant actor and I know he could be (and in some cases is) a brilliant Stannis. They have to make him less Mels-y at some point, right? :(

You put "lighten up" and "the Mannis" in the same sentence? :lol

Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire

;)

For the battle, I think it helps a lot that it's season 4 and not season 2. It's not like they had to build a bunch of new sets, especially for the Wall, all that work had already been done and paid for.
They have actually built new Wall stuff though :)

Yeah and you thought this show had a lot of prostitution and sexposition, just wait for Robert's Conquest of the Seven
Biddies At Once

She thinks she is as smart as Tywin when she really isn't. A lot of her decision are fueled by anger and that was reflected in the king she groomed in Joffrey. Notice how the other 2 kids she didn't give much attention to didn't turn out to be crazy sociopaths.

To this day I still think Sansa turns out to be the bad Stark. She is all about herself and her selfish decisions lead to the destruction of her family. I would not be surprised at all if Arya kills Sansa.
Uh what? After book 1 what exactly did she do that was selfish?

I can't think of a single episode this season that piqued my interested less than this one. I generally don't care about big battles and the show made it really hard to give a fuck about anyone on the wall, the wildlings, and Stannis' party.
I totally agree. A whole episode about the Wall. Yawn. I like that locale in the books, not so much in the show.

I have a feeling that todays episode will be the most disappointing one for many book readers.
there are so many elements in it which they really havent done justice to in the past. jon, ygritte, stannis, mance (is he even in that season?), budget for battles was always low. I dont have a good feeling about it.

I agree. They've totally botched everything related to everyone related to the Battle of the Wall - I don't care about the wildlings (looking forward to Ygritte's death tbh and I completely forgot Mance was ever on the show), I cannot stand Jon Snow or Sam (or Gilly or...), and Stannis sucks (Davos is okay and Melisandre is too I guess) - I'm looking forward to the episode in the sense that I'm curious to see how they'll adapt the material, but from a show only perspective, I couldn't be less interested.

I won't be butthurt if there is no "Stannis Stannis Stannis" shout, however I will be butthurt if Melisandre leads the charge or some shit like that.

Combining the battle with the wildlings attack on both the south and northside of the wall sounds a bit to much to fit all in one episode.

I'd rather had the southern attack in episode 3 or 4 like the books (obviously not in episodes). Would also make for a better pacing in Jon's storyline this season.

Ah well, will enjoy nonetheless, and I shouldn't judge before it has aired really.

The men will chant, "Rh'llor! Rh'llor! Rh'llor!" And when asked why he came, Stannis will say, "Melisandre told me to."

Hopefully the crying about TV Stannis will end tonight. He hasn't even been a simp aside 2 scenes in Season 3 but I guess that still permeates in everyones mind

I'm guessing with the shows love of episode title double meanings Mel will try and sacrifice Shireen in Episode 10 which will lead to Stannis's big hero turn.

This would work wonderfully and lead him into book Stannis's thinking that R'hllor is just something to be exploited vs. a religion he actually believes in.

Honestly, I kinda agree. :S

But it's more so because I'm just not invested, and I wasn't in the book either, in Jon, Sam, Ygritte, or anyone in that storyline in general. Blackwater had Tyrion, Cersei, Sansa, the Hound, Joffrey, etc., so I still enjoyed it even if the episode was just in King's Landing. I just don't care about any character in The Wall storyline, and that's all this episode is going to be about so @____@

I'm sure I'll still enjoy it (Ygritte's death, Stannis's arrival are keeping me from being totally uninterested in the episode) but yeah ...

This season needed more Mance to help the build up.

I'm really excited to see what they can do to match the scope of Blackwater. That episode didn't have the look and feel of a TV show. It looked and felt like a film. If they can make the Wall battle look anywhere near as good as Blackwater, I'll be happy. I have very low expectations from the story side of things. So almost anything they do there I think will satisfy me.
