Do it. Completely worth it. The books expand so much on background story, so you really get what's going on.

Yes, they did a recast. Maybe they required a better actor for the scenes to come, and old Tommen couldn't deliver. Now, according to the books, Marg gifted Tommen some kitties so he could play with some pussies while he grew up. New Tommen looks old enough to play with the pussy, and not a feline one, right away. I don't know how they'll handle it.

New Tommen is legit only 15 years old.

I actually don't mind this recast at all, to be honest. Tommen the character was off-screen for an entire season and the new actor actually looks like what I imagine the old actor to look like in a few years anyway. Frankly, I just wish the showrunners would abandon any mention of ages and just unofficially go with the idea that this story is taking place over the course of several years, instead of just a few. *shrug*

Aaaaah, a shame there is no Penny...

My guess is that she will still be introduced next year.. maybe as a wife or sister to one of the eventually murdered performers.

The entire point of Tommen in the books is that he signs whatever they put in front of him. In the books, it's because he's too young to even understand what he's really doing. They can probably get away with the same thing in the show by making him just a sweet, naive slightly older kid. A "yes, grandpa, I love you!" type.

Tommen in the books is like the nice kid who's in a shit situation. I feel bad for him, moreover losing his uncle who was the only guy who was seriously looking to bring some peace to the land was worse. Who the hell is that actor by the way? I forgot the uncle's name but have we seen him in the show yet?

Kevan, and yes, he has been cast but he only appeared in a couple of episodes during the second season, totally unremarkable character.

Joffrey's death was so satisfactory. The actor has been a beast during all these years, kudos to him.

Oh and prepare for Littlefinger because his hour is near.

A few items:
-A few people asked about tagged book spoilers. We transitioned that to this thread for a couple of reasons. First, as the series went on, it became increasingly tedious to maintain per book spoiler tags. At any given episode, we can see content from multiple books, not to mention the frequent discussions about the series as a whole and end game scenarios. Second, the majority of active posters in here are people that have read all the books. I know this puts people that have read some of the books in a tight spot, but you are the minority at this point and I don't think it's enough to support a third thread.
-Saw this a couple of times: don't quote a post from the other thread. If they look up their replies, they could see your post dissecting their unsullied views.

Yeah I think I'll grab the paper backs, they're 70$ CAD on amazon.

If you have a Kindle, you could also buy the Kindle Edition. Way more convenient. Not only is it cheaper (around $20 for the 5 books), but you can also carry them all at the same time. You'll be surprised to see how big the books are. For me it was simply uncomfortable to carry so much paper around, specially when I'm already carrying my PC, Uni books and notebooks.

Have Marg show up in that wedding dress to present it and he'll sign it without thinking.

I get what you're trying to do, and I can appreciate it to an extent.. but this just seems too extreme. We can't even quote text from another thread now? Is this going to happen for every show/movie that's based on a book?

Maybe HBO would pull a "Heimdall" and let him play as Bloodraven.

Bloodraven was already cast. :p

Nah, if someone from the show only thread says something amusing, feel free to quote it in here, just remove the link and name so it's a straight [ quote] [ /quote]

Seems not many people in the other thread are remembering the precedent for what happens when one participant in a marriage pact dies set by Cat and Brandon.

A lot of people aren't thinking that Marg will be marrying Tommen. Some even seem to be thinking Marg will rule on her own without any Baratheons somehow.

I'm not fond of show Littlefinger.
I get that showing intention is super difficult without internal monologues for television shows, but it feels like they've made him out to be less a crafty asshole and more just obnoxious in the show. Anyway, it's all down hill from here. Danny shits herself in the sands for a while and stares at belly buttons while everyone takes forever to get to whatever location they're going to by Dance with Dragons.

More just you can't be specific in the non-spoiler section. If I was watching the show, I would think Margery or Tywin would be the next crown too I guess, no harm.

I made the mistake of posting there a week ago by accident thinking I was in this thread. By the time I realized it and went to edit, I was banned. Shit's harsh.

God damnit I double posted, thought I hit edit.

Tommen and Bran are (at least in the books) the same age when the story starts.

So by that logic and considering Bran's pubertal transformation, they should've recast Tommen with someone in their mid-30's.

So I wonder if they'll still give Bron his own house or if he's going to become Jamies traveling companion? I've having some trouble remembering how it went down in the book.
Did Cersei give Bron land before Joffery dies to separate Bron from Tyrion, or after to get him away from Tyrion while he was locked up ?

I thought Cersei attempted to have Bron assassinated, but the lord who was supposed to be behind it was slain instead, then he got his lands... something like that wasn't it?

Even without reading the books, that's not how the line of succession works, not in the show and not in real life monarchies. Both Tywin and Margarey have no claim to the throne.

Yeah. From the wiki:

Ser Balman, ever chivalrous, challenges Bronn to a duel, but Bronn kills Ser Balman using dirty tactics and expels Lady Falyse from the castle. Upon Ser Balman's death, Bronn is unopposed as the Lord Protector of Stokeworth, a claim derived from his wife's new position as Lady Stokeworth.

I thought he just married Lollys, Lady Tansa's slightly dim daughter who was repeatedly raped in the riots in ACOK?

I don't really understand what you're saying. I'm just saying that they can make an older looking Tommen work, just like they're making an older looking Bran work.

Of course they don't, but all things considered most of the non-spoiler discussion revolves around Tommen and what would happen when/if he dies. Succession or not, no one's going to give a crap who is meant to be king depending on who holds the capital with force. As it stands, the Lannisters and Tyrell are the only military there so it's a pretty reasonable assumption for anyone not versed in the storyline.

That's the funny thing: if Tommen were to die, the throne would pass to Stannis.

So it was after. Okay.
When Tyrion is accused of murdering his nephew King Joffrey, Bronn refuses to champion him a second time in a trial by combat against the monstrous Ser Gregor Clegane, taking an offer from Cersei instead to marry into the wealthy House Stokeworth. He does not forget Tyrion completely, however.

Joffrey's death was hilariously over the top. They may as well have had is head explode.

it was worse(better) in the book GRRM painfully described the multiple hues his face turned leading up to his death. It was beautiful. Now the Red Wedding was over the top. *Bolton stage left*

If you wanted to sign a death warrant for everyone at King's Landing, then sure.
It would never happen though.

Oh, of course, I'm just saying that is what the "letter of the law" says.

Didn't he also claw his own throat open trying to breathe? Beautiful.

- NY Mag: How 15 Game of Thrones Actors Would Have Killed ... That One Person

EDIT:
- Slate: The Game of Thrones Graveyard - Leave a flower for a fallen character
If you watch Game of Thrones, chances are you’ve watched the show kill off a character who mattered to you: a lord, a sellsword, a queen, a knight; someone you loved, or someone you loved to hate. It’s so hard to say goodbye, even when the deceased are fictional. That’s why we’re opening the Game of Thrones Graveyard, where the show’s most well-known characters rest for eternity. Buried in this sacred ground are brave souls who George R.R. Martin took from us too soon, likely by beheading them, filling them with crossbow bolts, slitting their throats, or all of the above. Others lasted far too long and died far too easily considering their depravity. But good or evil, they all touched our lives in some way.

Who is left to "die" who has a huge impact?
The mountain and Oberyn, but honestly that's like whatever.

The Hound will be "dead" for a while, that'll probably be a surprise to viewers.
From there...? I don't remember anyone else being dead aside from Snow "dying"
Now that I think of it, it's more fake deaths and twist resurrections than real deaths from here on out isn't it? Cat being the first.

You're fogetting Tywin?

Actually it would pass to Myrcella first or was that changed for the show? She's definitely in the line of succession after her brothers in the novels.

She's actually ahead of Tommen according to Dorne.

Tywin's death will be pretty awesome and Ygritte dying will be kinda sad for some people. I imagine they'll probably have Jon be the one to actually kill her.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought outside of Dorne, women couldn't rule? So it would pass over her and go to the eldest uncle. Or do they just skip the women and then jump back to them if the men are all gone?

It was just a joke based on how much Hempstead-Wright has aged. He looks crazy old now is all.

Haha gotcha. It really is crazy, and it's a good thing his role in the story isn't really dependent on his age.
