The Unsullied pretty much solved the Olyenna taking the stone off of Sansa's necklace.

But why was that necessary?

There isn't TSA security frisking everyone coming into the wedding. She could of had a poison stone in her pocket.

First tier hate can be distributed among: Tywin, Cersei, Ramsay, Roose, Walder Frey. Gregor

Second tier hate can be distributed among : Littlefinger, Varys, Pycelle, Thorne, Slynt.

Probably missing a few obvious ones.

Edit: I forgot Dany. First Tier.

I think it's just to muddy the chain of blame. Say someone caught the poison before Joff drank it. Well, it's from Sansa's necklace, which was given to her by Ser Dontos, who got it from someone outside of the city (Littlefinger). The Tyrell's would be completely out of the picture as far as guilt.

Plausible deniability, I suppose.

I don't think Olyenna knew about Sansa being whisked away by Littlefinger, so having Sansa carry the poison would make it easier to frame Tyrion. With Jamie a Kingsguard, Tyrion gone, Margarey married to Tommen who she can easily manipulate and get a kid, the throne would be theirs for the taking.

I want to say I loved the episode. I think people who talk about foreshadowing are just experiencing the fact that Jefforey's assholeness made people wish he would die and he did. The shots of Oberyn, Varys, rest of the guests during the dwarf show and Jeff's bullying was excellent.

I actually like Sansa :p

I know Ramsay is an evil sonofabitch, but I like his character too. He's a bad guy, sure, but he's not a whiny asshole cunt like Viserys and Joffery....if that makes any sense at all, hahaha.

The poison in question is pretty hard to obtain, and even harder to smuggle into King's Landing and directly into her posession. Having it go through Sansa as an unwitting player makes it less likely that it gets traced back to Olenna if shit goes wrong. However, I don't see why she didn't get it earlier than the wedding feast. What if Sansa didn't wear it?

How would she obtain the poison? When Margaery makes fun of Joffrey in a private conversation she was worried about being heard.

Having the poison delivered via Sansa and casually grabbing it in the feast was the safest way to not be implicated.

It brings a smile to my face skimming over the tv thread and seeing people believe Littlefinger to be the one at fault. I just know that months from now (maybe next year?) they'll be pumping their fists in the air, screaming out, "FUCKING CALLED IT."

It's pretty clear that Tywin is the one in control to anyone who watches the show. Joffrey is a petulant child who had Ned Stark beheaded. Tywin is the mastermind who orchestrated the deaths of Robb, Catelyn, Talisa and her unborn child, and the bulk of the northern army. The very first scene of this season doubled down on the imagery of Tywin himself shattering and burning the Starks down.

I also think people in this thread should not worry so much about what show-only watchers may or may not think or find important.

agreed. i haven't read any of the books so i don't know everything that is/isn't important unless someone has spoiled it for me as i had a handful of friends that read the books multiple times and talked about it a good deal. don't worry so much about us though. we'll find out wherever and whenever it all comes to the forefront. i come in here knowing full well that there's spoilers abound, but i just end up going along with it and still have a good fun time. it's nice to have that middle ground of knowing enough to be dangerous to myself with what all i know is coming, but not knowing everything for the fun of the adventure to go away as i never know what has been changed as i watch or what will possibly be changing as the show differs from the books enough to keep things fun and interesting. hopefully all that makes some kind of sense.

just watched the episode and reading the reactions now haha. can't wait to see the reactions when that other thing happens.

fucking great episode, though cersei's reaction was weird. I was expecting more screaming etc. oh well.

That's the whole idea of Dontos approaching her and looking sympathetic to her - he is so grateful towards her saving his life that he gifts her the last thing that is left of his family, the necklace of his dead mother, and asks her to wear it. Sansa is a bit gullible, but also a Stark, which is why she values honor and kindness. She was going to wear it for sure.

This all makes a lot more sense in the books where Dontos is Sansa's confidante, but eh.

I like the observation someone made earlier that of course the one person who might of stood the remotest chance of saving Joffery was probably Grand Maester Pycelle, whom of course Cersei had sent packing from the feast on one of her petty spite missions. Sometimes the way things play out is just too delicious.

Poor Renly.

oh yeah I knew there was another one. should have chosen him instead of viserys, he wasn't even a proper king.

I am going to miss jack gleeson. he was fucking brilliant on and off the camera. he really brought that shithead to life the way I imagined him in the books.

He played him with the right mix of cruelty and childlike glee/arrogance.

He killed Kevan. =(

(Everytime I post something like this I have to triple check I'm in the right thread, heh.)

For the record, I don't really hate Varys.

Kevan Lannister? The Diet Pepsi version of Tywin Lannister?! Good riddance!
I honestly believe that outside of Ned Stark, only Varys truly has the best interest of the realm in mind.

Finaly that asshole is dead. God i love the series. Now the question is who the hell did this? I doubt it was Sansa. But she had the Goblet in her hands for a few seconds.

YOU DUN GOOFED SON.

How can people hate Varys? He's set up to seem slimy when he's actually working for the good of the realm or so he says. That's the whole twist. I think he really is "the good guy" but nobody really knows so people don't like him. The real Game of Thrones is between Varys and Littlefinger (my fav to win the whole thing).

Also I don't mind Sansa, she's had her reality shattered several times. I think we will see some real change in the Vale for her. Littlefinger is teaching her.

Would it be mean if we release spoilers on the next confused tv watcher? I mean, not only does this thread have a different title, but we're also editing the first post on every page with a warning.

Varys says he wants the good of the realm but he destroys any semblance of stability it has. Also i don't buy the whole Littlefinger Varys rivalry, obviously they're adversaries but they probably don't see each other as the enemy, that was just played up by the show.

I think it was completely unstable. Varys' plans are still mostly unknown but we do know he thinks the Lannisters are not what is good for the realm. And it's obvious that besides Tywin and Kevan, they are not.

The rivalry might have been played up by the show but I do not think they are friends at all. Varys has made some comment in the books that allude to a rivalry. They both seem to be the master game players here.

Littlefinger has some major plays to make. He has Harrenhal, the Riverlands, the Vale soon (if we can extrapolate) and Sansa, which would lead to control of the North. He's been pulling a lot of strings and is responsible for starting this whole affair with the murder of Jon Arryn.

I just want to say it is a tragedy that Diana Rigg doesn't get star billing. She's been absolutely perfect this season and last, and this week she turned it up. The look in her eyes as Tyrion grabs the cup - she knows he's going to take the fall for it now, no way it might get seen as an accident.

Granted, she probably won't have as much to do the rest of the season, but it's not like Aidan Gillen was even in the back half of S3.
