I just totally missed the Unreal game series era; I played some of the PS2 UT game but that might be all I've touched of the games somehow. (I played my fair share of Q3A so I had access to compatible PCs at the time, and was of course wowwed by the engine and some of the unique aspects of its design choices, plus any game series that can fit a hoverboard into its world has promise to my eye, but still, it just never brought me in.) So I'm eager to finally dig in and see what I missed.... if I ever get around to it this time.

Nah UT players were lowlife peasants compared quake 3 master race because in UT you couldn’t strafe jump. CS players were just weird psychos running around with knives.

That’s how it was, promise.

I thought this was another necrobump lol

BTW can this game be played individual death matches with only friends? I think that's the type of games I've been needing for a while, I'm tired of team death matches

I think Unreal was one of the first games I played. One of the first shooters that tried to tell a story outside the manual through the environment.

How about a port of Unreal Championship, the game that nobody played? It was like a fps fighter hybrid. It had a character selection roster, and every character had unique melee weapons/moves that switched the camera from 1st to 3rd person.
I think it was only ever released on the first Xbox, I don’t remember if it had a pc port or not.

That sounds more like Unreal Championship 2 which was exclusive to the original Xbox, but a cancelled PC port build was leaked. The first Unreal Championship was very similar to Unreal Tournament 2003 for the PC, but had certain changes made to run on the original Xbox.

Are there source code ports of these games like with DOOM and Quake? Can I even play them on a modern Windows 11 PC?

The original release should work fine, but you will have to edit the ini file to use an alternative master server if you wish to play online as Epic shut down the original server, alternatively you can just enter the server's IP address within the server browser. You can also use the DirectX11 renderer which might help for newer graphics cards, and a Vulkan renderer is in development.

You’re right, there was a 2 on that sucker. It was a great game, like a hero shooter mixed with a third person fighting game. Characters had unique moves and melee weapons, double jumps were standard.
It was a blast to play, and it saddens me that it never saw a port or a follow up.
