Midway Games has today confirmed that Unreal Tournament 3 for PlayStation 3 will hit store shelves across Europe on Friday February 22.

The imminent availability of the PS3 version across Europe follows a successful worldwide launch of the PC version and PS3 version in North America. Including the North American PS3 release the game has shipped over 1.2 million units worldwide and this figure is sure to rise thanks to European sales.

"The separated format releases have worked well, effectively giving each sku its own space," said Martin Spiess, European Managing Director of Midway Games. "Epic has delivered a game of impeccable quality and superb playability, and sales figures clearly show the timing was also spot on."

Look out for our thoughts on the UT3 for PS3 in the near future.

flop ye say ?

har har har

How I love Uncharted-level bombing !

What is even more impressive with UT3 is that the PS3 version is not even out in Europe yet. Will be there in 3 days. I guess the game will top 2 millions units sold in no time.

WHIT?

Great news if true, but I'm wondering how many are sold to retailers and how many are actually in the hands of PS3 owners?

So just how many do we think it's sold on the PS3 thus far?

Wait... so the game isn't released in Europe yet?

And we had numbers of like ~50,000 for the PS3 version in December?

:lol

The Netherlands has had the PS3 version of UT3 for over a month now... strange...

EDIT: I just remembered that my local store almost always imports games so it's probably the US version... so based on NPD, UT3 did pretty bad, which is a damn shame...

Either way, shipped, not sold people...

People can read you know... it's right there in the topic tittle.

For starters, bluheim can't...

...then again, it's bluheim...

According to the NPD numbers:

End of November, two weeks of sales (PC) 86,000
End of December, two weeks of sales (PS3) 113,000

So roughly 200,000 going into January...

I think the import version has been avail all this time

I doubt that stores will order much more than they expect to sell.. :)

Yeah, edited my post after thinking about it already...

I'm a nice guy, but I only have so much patience to help those in need...

Indeed, and nowhere to be found in Jan NPD.

Flop you say=YES. By any stretch of the imagination that answer has not changed.

Where is that HD DVD thread where you are crying all the bitter tears in the world already ? You're probably in dire need of help there, I'd be glad to help you if I can.

It's weird that it hasn't been in any top 10s or even top 20s for quite a while now! Are you sure they didn't mean Unreal Tournament 2000 3?

Not even, it was only 33,000 in Nov IIRC.

Shipped maybe, but there's no way in hell this game has actually sold 1.2 million.

Dumb Draft is dumb.

It's shipped not sold!

(It probably stays near the top of the Top Ten Warehouse Fillers of 2008 list)

Yeah my bad, the 86,000 number was for Crysis.

According to the NPD numbers:

So roughly 145,000 going into January. And has been mentioned, UT3 was nowhere in the January NPDs so it seems they shipped above and beyond their projected sales.

Let's mull that one over for a bit, though. Assume this press release is correct. 1.2 million shipped. Our quantifiable numbers are probably around 250k, based on US NPD. Let's be generous and give them another 250k in PS3 importers and PC buyers. 500k total. Shit, let's just go nuts and say 700k total (500k in Euro PC sales and PS3 imports.) That still leaves 500k rotting on shelves. Is that normal? Do companies really misjudge demand that badly? I mean I know Nintendo does but in the opposite direction, which at least leaves money in their pocket instead of with the disc factory.

Lol, Combined the PC and PS3's first months and its not even over 200k...

Played this game all weekend on the PS3.

MY WIFE is playing the fuck out of it, which you have to admit is pretty braggable.

Well its including the worldwide PC figures and the North American PS3 so its already fudged.

Yes they do. Remember ET from Atari? Enter the Shitrix from same company?

"it isn't ? i'm was a pretty big UT 99 buff, but UT2004 left me indifferent. So where does UT3 stand ?"

UT3 is the true UT99 sequel. Unfortunately, nobody's playing and Epic screwed the poodle on release.

Wait for Legions.

I dunno why but it seems like every bit of UT news seems to slip under the radar.
