Update regarding Horizon Forbidden West (PS4 versions now have entitlement to free PS5 upgrade, other games will have $10 upgrade fee)

Good on them giving horizon for free as promised. But future titles still have a $10 tax, seriously? Why?

There is NO tax for "next gen" on PC or Xbox games studios.
Because a PS4 game costs 59.99 and a PS5 game costs 69.99

But if I remember correctly, everyone here was praising Sony for raising the prices. People here said it didn't matter to them to pay more for a "premium" experience lmao.

Are you afraid there won't be enough copies or something? I just don't understand pre-ordering games these days.

Back in the day, it made sense to me. My local GameStop only got 5 copies of Fable, for example when it came out. Also, pre-order so you could get a game at a midnight release party made sense too. However, those days it is rare for a game to not have enough stock and/or just download digital. If it is a game I want to play day one, after the initial reviews stating about bugs or what not, I might buy the game the day before just to have it downloaded and ready to go.

I just don't understand pre-orders.
Don't you get bonus for preorders ?

We are a point in this thread where the most vocal people are suggesting to play on hardware that is almost 9 years old (regardless of the availability of a newer console) with a sub par user experience.

HFW has a 60FPS mode on the PS5 right?

Does the PS4 version have one as well?

Crossgen games tend to be much better on the newer platforms. I can still see why some might want to pick up a PS5.

You think they don’t inspect the entire game and add new assets and/or upgrade current assets in higher resolutions? And that is only one aspect of the game they have to work on.
Can you please explain what exactly are they doing on the PS5 version? They just change the box from PS4 to PS5?
Dude, it's going to be the same game with better resolution. Although I would expect a lot more than that for a game coming out a year after the PS5 release.

None of the other quotes from Sony in this thread explicitly mention a free upgrade for HFW, only the Washingtn Post interview I posted.

The blogpost is only explicit about launch games, and those did get free upgrades. HFW never was a launch game.
In Sony’s own words, Horizon was considered a launch game. Launch doesn’t mean the day a console comes out. It refers to a window of time after that launch, which is why Sony now says that when Horizon got delayed, it got moved out of the launch window. There’s no reading comprehension issues here. Again, Sony themselves admit this. And the defense the fanboys are giving for this is that Sony is now lying to appease people who “read it wrong”. That’s just utter stupidity.

So when will the downfall of Sony actually happen?

Seems like some people are predicting that things are going to get bad for Sony really soon but I'm currently not seeing it.

Sure things could be better but is it enough for them to fail due to that?
As soon as Microsoft gets some fucking games. That's the only thing keeping Sony afloat but this holiday season it will be a huge win for Microsoft. Too bad they are so fucking clueless thanks to their clueless manager Phil Spencer. They have like 30 studios and the only things they come out with are Halo and Forza.

When did Sony ever claim Horizon was a "launch window" game before this?

Eh I get what you mean, but Microsoft still doesn't have the tier of games that Sony is pushing (yet).
I would have agreed with you up until flight sim and forza horizon 5. Halo...it remains to be seen. Sadly im convinced that that game will come out with a great multiplayer mode, and a boring half cooked campaign

Shouldn’t even be an ongoing discussion over semantics, Sony admitted they promised Horizon would have a free upgrade. Case closed.

Last year we made a commitment to deliver free upgrades for our cross-gen launch titles, which included Horizon Forbidden West.

Exactly. No rush here, my Ps4 is well enough up until a slim, pro, or maybe even a sku with a bigger storage releases.

Only thing that might make me want to upgrade earlier would be Bloodborne 2 and I doubt thats coming anytime soon if at all.
With all due respect I think you’re mad. My PS4 ramped up to serious decibel levels when I played God of War on it in May. Couldn’t get beyond half an hour, then decided to pull the trigger on a DE. £360, great decision. I dread to think what the next GoW and Horizon will make a PS4 scream like.

I think the PS5 version has a 60FPs mode confirmed for it. Plus there might be other changes besides resolution.
It's the same, 60fps, 4k, HDR are not proper upgrades. Those things are a given just for the power difference between consoles.

At the end of the day if those are the only differences then it will be the same game but prettier.

Well Sony is releasing games as well so I don't think that's going to hurt them. Now if the quality of Sony's games goes into the dumpster then I can see things getting really bad for them. We have to wait and see if that happens though.

The map in horizon zerod dawn made my launch model ps4 pro sound like it was about to take flight

He's right. I bought my.ÑS5 in November and I have yet to play a single PS5 exclusive Game. All I've been doing is playing the PS plus collection games.

"Targetting" late 2021 is launch window? No, they promoted the game since before the console launched, but they never said it's a launch game. They also showed that Ragnarok teaser, does that make it a launch window game too?

Launch window is, by definition, a game launched close to the console launch. Summer 2021 or beyond is not launch window for a console launched in late 2020.

Don't call out stupidity, please. It doesn't have the effect you think it has.

Isn't that what a cross gen games are? Like Demons Souls for example.
No. Crossgen games were really different last gen. They were almost two completely.different games because the developers actually cared. They would utilize the power of the new console to do a game that wasn't possible on last gent consoles and then they would do a last gen game with all the limitations.

Now they just up the resolution, framerate and then call it a day. And now those things don't even make much of a difference. Playing at 4k or 1080p, 60 fps or 30fps is not a big differentiator factor.

I don't think anyone really "praised" a price increase. Some of us have been gaming long enough to know that game prices have gone up in the past. If you don't know, the standard price for new games use to be $49.99. The new price now is $69.99. When next gen only games are the norm, that is the price we are going to see across the board.

I played God of War, Days Gones, and GoT all on my launch Ps4 lol. Sure it can get loud but I play with the platinum headset on so its not like I notice it as much.

You went Digital Edition? Thats a bitch since digital deals usually take longer to come than physical. Unless you gameshare which would make it easier on the wallet.

The time you are referencing was also the time when the hardware between the last gen and new gen console was very different. See PS3 to PS4.

Dude, these people were saying the PS5 had the best "launch lineup" ever when the only games released were a PS3 remake (Demons Soul's) and a PS4 expansion with updated visuals (Miles morales) . They even tried to include ratchet even after it released 7 months later.

Honestly I would need to see a comparison between HFW on the PS4 with the PS5 version before coming to that conclusion. It's always possible that the developers developed some features just for the PS5. Kind of like how Insomniac developed RT Reflections for the PS5 version of Miles Morales for example.

It doesn't always have to be a simple resolution or framerate bump.

As far as first party goes yeah this was their best lineup

But that's just because their launch lineup has always been shit up until now

Gamesharing right now with a family member, but before that I was always just happy to wait a couple of years until the exclusives hit sub £30 in the sales. Single player games don’t become bad with time in my experience :messenger_ok:

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
This is the reason you never offer something for free, it will bite you in the ass and people will abuse it.
While I agree they should offer it as free upgrade because that's what they originally said, I do believe the games should be the same price too.
A lot of the outrage is from people with PS5 and don't need to buy the PS4 version and just wants to save 10 bucks.

lol Sony is being so manipulative. Yeah they back tracked, but on the PS5 store you can't buy the PS4 version at all. It's not listed...

You can't blame people though. I played on PS4, and whenever a free upgrade exists, I take it, if for no other reason than the possibility of playing the game on PS4 if it ever becomes necessary.

Definitely not. Unlike multiplayer games which can die down or get ruined with updates. I gameshare on both consoles so its pretty easy on both ends.

Only Playstation exclusives I bought day one were Infamous, The Order, and Bloodborne that I can remember off the top. The rest I waited for deals or just rented them.

Playing a single player game at 1080p/30fps over 4k/1440p/60fps doesn't really bother me. If it were multiplayer, I'd be more inclined to upgrade earlier.

Lol so don’t believe Sony’s own words then? You get how ridiculous that sounds right? They’re telling you they were wrong. Of all times to stop listening to them, why now I wonder?

Is this is a serious post? So the only thing keeping Sony afloat is MS not having games? Not because Sony is a popular global brand? Not because they make games people love? Nothing? Just because MS don't have games? That's it? That simple? So people all around the world are craving for MS games waiting for that moment to happen when they all jump ship to their Lord and saviour Jesus MS Christ? And until that happens they have no choice but to deal with the Sony devil?

Right decision.

Though why the Ps5 version is still 10 bucks more than Ps4 is now fucking idiotic.

This whole thing has been a shitshow and could have been easily avoided, were it not for naked greed.

:messenger_tears_of_joy: Christ I hope you’re joking lol

It's possible it's just being reworked and will be back up soon, but as of last night, only the PS5 version standard edition or the deluxe edition were listed on the store for me. Slightly different topic but while browsing I also noticed you can't buy the PS4 version of Battlefield 2042 either, which is total BS since it isn't cross gen play so some PS5 owners have a legit reason to still want to buy the PS4 version to play with friends.

These are the first batch of games I've noticed that don't allow you to buy the last gen versions on the PS5, disturbing if this becomes a trend.
