Upgrade to Windows 10?

I still haven't received the update. This is all I get....

Was the case for me. Just went to the site and downloaded the setup manually. No issues.

Same here. They are rolling it out a la California mandatory blackout style. If they let everyone on the planet download Windows 10 at the same time their servers would probably melt.

IMPORTANT NOTE IF YOU ARE SEEING THIS

DO NOT go and wipe your download folder. While that may work for some people, it doesn't work for everyone, as the upgrade process is complex with a ton of different phases and multiple reasons why it may or may not work.

You'll likely end up causing more problems than you solve.

INSTEAD

Follow the instructions here:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...0/d695e827-9774-4e10-8972-df8d51a7bb51?auth=1

By doing this, not only are you avoiding re-downloading the entire thing with the Media Creation Tool, but you are also avoiding a lot of potential headaches.

The error code does not mean that there was a problem with the download. It simply means that you weren't eligible to install it yet.

Thanks I guess I'll just wait then.

Not sure this will solve anything but maybe try to run it as Admin?

I have :/

I am reading for a 64 bit install you need at least 20GB free. I only had 14, so I'm hoping this could be my problem. I just cleared out some space to see if this is all it was. I have 40GB free now... Let me try this one more time.

Use this tool, worked for me and a lot of other people
As far as the key goes, I think someone on GAF recently said those cheap reddit keys were not genuine? or some of them? I think it was in a discussion about a gaffer selling keys that turned out to be not genuine after a few months? might have been in this thread from a few weeks ago

Buy/Sell/Trade Thread 2015 Part 2 | Hanks Got Nothing on This Money Pit

Hmm interesting. I hope the one I bought is genuine.

Also, about that link you sent me, do I download the image, put it on a flash drive and boot to it? And what about the activation key? Do I use the key I bought for 8.1?

I'm reading all of these issues people are having getting the update. Are those related to trying to update via this method? If it's complicated or not working well, I'll just wait and hope I get the update straight from MS.

Games working so far based on this topic are:

SKYRIM with ENB
Witcher 2 and 3
All Arkham games
Fallout 3 and NV
Diablo 3
Battlefield 4
Arma 3
GtA V
Oblivion

Not working so far:
Metal Gear GZ

Need to know if working

Assassins Creed Unity
Crysis
Crysis 2
Crysis 3
Crysis Warhead
Ultra Street Fighter 4

MGS: GZ is working fine for me.

Edit: Can also confirm USFIV (at least I can confirm the AE version as that's all I have) works.

Successfully upgraded my desktop, built in 2011, upgraded from Windows 7 to 8 to 8.1. I maybe at best last did a full wipe and re-install two years ago. Everything seems to be working fine so far.

I want to support Microsoft. I want the legit version of the physical copy. I have purchased all of my Windows versions. It's just something that I like doing. I know they'll iron out the issues and other problems.

You still have to pay for the keys, what's the difference if you buy a disc printed by Microsoft?

It seems this process can also have very high memory usage, so it's not only a CPU usage problem
Did you use a fresh install or an upgraded version?

Mine's only trashing the CPU so far. I upgraded from 8.1 when prompted then installed fresh afterwards.

I have an issue with the upgrade and the lisense it seems. What I did was I upgraded my PC that had Windows 8.1 Pro on it to Windows 10 using a usb stick that I made with the tool MS provided. I wrote down the new product key after the first boot. Now I proceeded to do a fresh install into an SSD I had waiting just so I can install Windows 10 on it. Install went ok from the usb stick again but now it is not accepting the lisense key I got from the upgrade. I have another computer that I need to do the same thing to but im confused as to how I should go about doing this since the information regarding clean installs is all over the place. Someone who knows how to do this and get Windows 10 activated on the fresh SSD please advice, thank you :)

I have a weird problem. My dads laptop already have to option to update windows, but my laptop no, it only appear the notify me when available window.

Anyone get facial recognition working? I can't seem to find it. I set up a pin have a working camera hooked up, even searched for the topic in windows, which finds it and brings me to nothing of the sort when clicked.

I am insider preview am I running the final version? Have not got any update since last build beside some security updates. How to tell?

Open Start --> Settings --> System.
Under "Change the size of text, apps, and other items," slide the slider to 100%, save, log off, and log back in.

Thank you sir! It was at 125%. I like the bigger icons and taskbar items at 125%, but the blur it caused isn't worth it

Does your camera supports it? Just to let you know it doesnt work with every webcam

how do you enable the Save As dialog box in MS Edge when you are trying to download a file, it is not in the Settings/Advanced Settings, it's driving me crazy

So it seems like Windows 10 sets the system language to whatever you had as your system locale before upgrading (Ignores display language regardless). I read some posts in Reddit that you can't change that afterwards for whatever reason

Do you guys that need a specific system locale for some programs/games just change it to english/whatever before upgrading and then change it back? I know some Japanese games need this so I'm wondering how you guys are doing this

So I tested out some DX11 games. My PC is old and having Windows 10 gave some significant performance boosts. It may very well be the driver too. I have DX12 due to my GPU being GCN supported.

* Sleeping Dogs is now running at 60fps.
* Arkham City no longer stutters when panning the camera over long distances.
* Battlefield 3 provided significant FPS improvements and stability.
* Far Cry 3 has a lot more stable FPS.

It's really good for old computers. I have not tried Crysis 3 yet which murdered my PC when I played it before.

So, my summary of this thread (please tell me if I'm off):

Gaming rigs should hold off on Win10 but non-gaming/work systems seem fine (except for Wifi Sense)?

Download the one suited for your version of Windows and just run the program, it's supposed to give you a few options upgrade/fresh install/making a copy for a disc or USB stick - tho I did not get the fresh install option and it seem a few other people did not get it as well

If you chose to upgrade it will download and will do an installation/upgrade, you can also pick to keep your installed programs + files or just files when upgrading

I'm not completely sure about the activation key, but from I read in a few posts, it only asks for it if you do a clean install from a disc or USB stick (and I think someone said you can even skip it and continue without entering a key?)

Not sure about all the problems people are having and if they are related to this method, but I myself used this tool and used the refresh option from Windows (basically formats and installs Windows again, can also keep your files if you'd like) and everything works perfectly fine so far

I saw some people talking about having problems upgrading when they don't have a lot available space and something about partition and a solution from reddit, can't seem to find it now

Mine's only trashing the CPU so far. I upgraded from 8.1 when prompted then installed fresh afterwards.

I did the same thing but luckily have no such problem
Are you actually using one those apps that may cause the problem like mentioned in the links or just the default apps fromm Windows?

Metal Gear GZ is broken for me as well.

Seems like AMD Cards on Window 10 with the newest drivers(catalyst 15.7.1) are having issues with the game.

Here's the link to a steam forum thread on the issue

Edit: Also Ultra Street Fighter 4 plays just fine for me.

So is it still possible for people who didn't reserve to get it for free? My friend hasn't used their laptop in ages and I am doing all the Windows 7 updates now...

There are some performance things in gaming going on here. Most games are fine, but some have some strange problems. CoJ: Gunslinger is running at 144fps but stutters and feels like 45 or something. Played a bit of Planetside 2 and it felt perfect at 70-110 fps, but suddenly screen went black as if there was a display driver crash and afterwards the game felt horrible to play. Same frame rate, but felt like sub 50 to play. Restarted the computer and it was fine again, but there is definitely some shit going on.

Updated your list.

I saw that and a few others but none have worked.

Might as well list the other issues I have in hopes there's a better "fix" than to wipe my system.
  • Can't sign into Windows Store.
  • Can't open Edge without it telling me that my trial has expired.
  • Can't open Feedback without it telling me that my trial has expired.
  • Device limit email.

Sounds like you have background services that either weren't started properly or are broken. For the Xbox ones anyway, Windows + R, "services.msc", and then stop and restart all the Xbox services. They might be tied to other network services though so it may not work.

Heh, just realized the Windows 10 Xbox Streaming also functions as a somewhat roundabout workaround for using a 360 controller on your Xbox One, since it's still displaying the game on your TV after streaming is started (assuming its on).

I'm having problems with a few games on Steam.
Witcher 2 crashes after the initial CG opening sequence.
Alan Wake (new install) gives me a directory error and won't run at all.
Later I'll try with Arkham City, Sleeping Dogs and Bioshock Infinite.

That's too bad because the only problems I'm having are all related to games :/
I've an Asus laptop with an i-7 Cpu and a GF550M family GPU. I've installed the latest win 10 Nvidia driver. DX version I have is 11.1.

I've also tried a few emulators like nulldc and pcsx2.
First impression in that the os is faster at doing a few standard tasks but for games there's a small performance degradation.
I also don't like that with a few professional programs like Matlab the fonts in the UI are visibly blurred but maybe I have to tweak a few options.

You can't. The location is actually set in the registry, believe it or not. Why is beyond me, thanks Microsoft.

So i live in a rural area, I am eligible for the windows 10 upgrade but its going to be impossible to download the update here.

Can i download an .ISO or some kind of USB installer, i could download it easily at a campus library, i just don't know where to start.

Anyone know how to fix this error?

I'd just go ahead and give MediaCreationTool a shot, rather than upgrade from Windows Update. Worked fine for me and four other people I helped upgrade.

For both of you guys. You can use this to create an ISO or USB stick. You'll still have to download though.

All my installed games working fine:

Limbo
Dirt 2
Witched 3
Hotline Miami 1&2
Killing Floor
Left 4 Dead 1&2
Dark Souls 1&2
Street Fighter 4 all versions
Payday 2
Batman games including knight (but gets unplayable after some time)

No noticeable performance difference. Nvidia GTX670 latest official drivers from nvidia.
