Upgrade to Windows 10?

Streaming from Xbox to PC is that available in 1080p? I have both my PC and Xbox wired to my router with a 70 to 80mb speed, I've seen people saying their streaming looks "perfect" but my quality doesn't even change from medium to high

I think it's manual tbh, I just clicked high and it worked fine.

What, why would you ever remove that? That's literally the first thing I tried D:

When they first added Cortana into the builds, she was pretty much a port from Windows Phone.

Then the start menu glitched all the time and she didn't work for two months.

Then we lost her audio, and they she got her own set of Windows specific commands. It hasn't worked since, although thankfully we got her audio back.

Does anyone have a break down on the privacy of Mail and Calendar? Currently I use gmail.com still, I'm open to trying a client but I don't want to give Microsoft access to all that stuff if they're sending it on. If I use Mail and Calendar without Cortana enabled am I safe or are they sharing that data anyway? If that's the case I'd rather use Thunderbird.
Oh I love these sort of rumors and I clearly remember reading how Vista had a purposely opened "backdoor" for Microsoft to spy on you. You got to love all the paranoid concerns every time a new Windows version is released.
I guess you missed the Snowden revelations where a lot of that paranoia turned out to be false. They seem quite justified this time. Specifically with Cortana features.

The only real difference I notice is the way better font scaling @ 4k. In Windows 8 fonts were way to tiny, even with the DPI scaler at the highest setting.

Need more resizing options badly. I just cant get things looking like I want.

Like in Edge, there are 100%(too small, doesn't look clear), 125%(too big, looks clear), and 150%(way too big).

Something like 110% would probably be ideal, but there's just no option for it.

Hold ctrl and scroll. You can adjust it in 5% increments.

Like every recent Windows release, this one still needs some polishing. For example, I am aswell having "issues" with the UI size. Im using 125% and thats good, but not exactly perfect.

However, my overall experience yesterday was pretty good. I'm not talking about gaming experience cause I have not played anything yesterday, but I did try Guild Wars 2 and World of Warcraft and both seems to be working just like it was before. But I could test the new UI and basic overall functionally, and I'm very happy with the changes

Things seems to be much better organized, the app store together with the new start menu really gives apps a usefulness for desktop. Edge is already looking great, and when it gets add-on support will be awesome!

It felt to me like a nice blend between Windows and a Mac OS.

Is anyone else having problem syncing the wireless xbox360 controller in Win10 ?
I tried re-installing the drivers and it still won't sync.

It was working fine on Win7.

If you're upgrading from a localized Windows, is it possible to change language somehow during the upgrade? I'm really tired of having to deal with often indirect translations for terminology when following instructions in English.

Goddamn it, update keeps giving me errors with the Win 10 upgrade download. I keep doing the fix in OP.. And I keep getting different error codes every time. Fun.

I didn't have any issues with my receiver, it worked perfectly after the upgrade.

Audio was working, but my Asus Xonar Station wouldn't open until I redownloaded some hack audio drivers for it(what the hell?). Also, I couldn't find the audio settings anywhere.

Damn installing Win10 really seems to be some sort of Roulette game. I also have a ASUS Xonar soundcard (Xonar DGX) and it works flawlessly after the update. I read about your problem a few days ago (seems that one was already in the technical preview) actually and preemptively downloaded the UNi Xonar drivers, but I didn't need them in the end

I'm seriously considering doing a fresh install. I've done an upgrade and am having a few bizarre errors that I can't figure out and I don't know if it has to do with the upgrade path.

My Xbox One controller has all kinds of weird issues with DOA5 and only DOA5

I can't download files to the root of my H:\ drive. My other 5 hard drives are fine in this regard (except for C:, but that's C:), and I can copy files to H:\...but I can't download files off of the internet onto the root of H:\, only folders on H:.

Windows 10 refuses to acknowledge that Thunderbird is installed, no matter how many times I uninstall and reinstall it. I can't add it to the start menu, only the taskbar

Anyone here have any suggestions for these issues? Everything else is running great (got a decent fps boost on Battlefield 4 it feels like), and I really don't want to have to go through all that trouble of a reinstall with all my weird programs and tweaks that I have.

The H:\ drive thing is the biggest one, and I have taken ownership of the drive several times to no avail.

Thank you so so much. I was using CTRL+(+/- keys), but I remember there being a better way to do it. Glad it still exists! :)

It seemed to be working fine, I had audio and everything, audio setup showed it recognized my DGX as primary audio controller. But the Asus Xonar Station app wouldn't open for some weird reason.

I dunno.

Using that Media tool - what is the difference between the versions...what does 'N' stand for. I normally get the pro version of windows - so confused :/

Anyone who has used Edge for a while now? I'd like to know if it's a viable replacement for Chrome.

If you're just looking for speed, yes. However it's a very stripped down browser (purposely) and may not support all the plugins you need.

Edit 2: Derp I'm pretty sure Netflix is on HTML5 now not Silverlight.

Installed 10 on my Yoga 2 last night, went smoothly. I'm one of those weirdos that actually liked Win8 despite the odd choices on Metro (I never installed a start menu replacement). Only thing that really annoyed me about the upgrade was the number of applications it dumped into the start menu, but that's easy enough to rectify.

Thx for the heads up, so not all plugins are supported.
Will they implement more in the future?

I don't think so, they purposely got rid of a lot of legacy support to make the browser as lean as possible.

To be honest unless a site is still running Java or Silverlight for some odd reason you won't really notice it.

Did a clean install and my hard drive is only showing 30gb free out of 250. Anyone know how to remedy this? It's a complete delete everything install. Should have come out with like 220 GB free.

edit: nvm figured it out

Steam is showing up really low resolution.

It also keeps asking me for permission whenever I click on the icon, which is really annoying, with no option to turn it off.

Anybody else with the same issues?

Guess I'll be waiting for a future wave.

Did they hint how long it would take to complete the rollout? Are we thinking days? Or weeks?

You should fresh install, but for your H drive problem search up take ownership tweak for windows 8.

So I just got a new computer at work and it runs on windows 8 and jesus christ this thing is a pile of shit. I want to convince them to make the free upgrade to 10, but im not sure if its actually better than 8.

In a business setting, the metro crap is worthless. Especially for those people who arent as tech savvy as others (erm.. old people).

If windows 10 has a start menu and is more navigable than 8, ill do what ever it takes to get this company to upgrade.

I'm slightly disappointed that MS didn't work with someone to have a DX12 enabled patch for an existing game, or even a new game or demo that was DX12 enabled to show it off.

Run it on a virtual machine to test first. IMO no vast improvement on the UI side from 8.1.

I'm experiencing quite a few issues in Chrome while typing. Also boot times seem to have got worse. Apart from that it seems OK. Definitely needs a bit of polish.

I think I'm gonna need to get more RAM and finally stick an SSD in my PC. A clean install needs to be done as there are a lot of old files I can't delete. Need to get rid of the junk.

I think this is about as good a time as any to back up my media, grab an SSD and start with a fresh install.

Exactly what I am about to do.

You should fresh install, but for your H drive problem search up take ownership tweak for windows 8.

I've tried that tweak, but it only seems to work for folders, not the drive itself. I may have found a way to take full ownership of the drive though. There's no longer an Owner tab in advanced security, but it's now a small word you can click. Still, trying that out.

I really, really don't want to do a reinstall. The DOA5 issue seems to be with the game and not the OS, as other people are having the issue as well in Win 10 and DOA5 is the only game with the issue. As for Thunderbird, it's still easily accessible and I'm ok with that.

Sad to hear W8's scaling issues carried over into W10.

I'll jump in when DX12 is relevant and drivers are caught up. Until then, I'm perfectly happy with 7 and 8 currently.

In case anyone is interested my laptop that has an Nvidia GT 745M had no driver issues when I upgraded and I was able to Run Shadorun Returns,Wasteland 2 and Divinity Origin of Sin just fine.

I now have the exact same level of control as the drives that do work just fine, and I still can't download files off of the internet to the root of H:\. No idea what's going on here, and Google tells me that I'm the only person in the world with this issue...

To fix low res-liking programs, try changing your display scaling to 100%.

As for Steam requiring permissions, I dunno. Currently on mobile, but sounds like a googleable problem.

Also, Edge brought back the annoying as fuck scroll bar that has a light gray background with the location indicator just minutely darker, so I have to stick my face up to the screen to see where it is sometimes. There was a script I could use previously to help this in Windows Explorer, but I'm guessing it might not work for an entirely new browser. Really hope it does cuz it fucking sucks.

I've used at least one application with this, possibly Visual Studio 2013. It's really annoying when you just want to glance and find the tiny scroll bar on the big scroll background, and the color change is so slight.
