Upgrade to Windows 10?

Update to Win10 went uber smooth until the VERY end I get an error message and PC reboots into 8.1 I guess I'll wait a few months, before I purchase it for my other PC.

Damn installing Win10 really seems to be some sort of Roulette game. I also have a ASUS Xonar soundcard (Xonar DGX) and it works flawlessly after the update. I read about your problem a few days ago (seems that one was already in the technical preview) actually and preemptively downloaded the UNi Xonar drivers, but I didn't need them in the end

I have the xonar stx and strangely enough its only detecting 2 speakers in my 5.1 setup

Anyone else tried in-home streaming with Steam only to have your picture washed out in 10? I assume it's the RGB Full/Limited settings being out of whack, but they're fine on the screen of the PC I'm streaming from, and were fine in WIndows 8.1 yesterday when I tried it on the same machine.

Ok, scratch that idea. If I disable UAC, then I can't use windows apps, some of which I like. So...yeah, I'll be doing a reinstall today. I just want to get all of my important, non ninite apps in a folder first for easy installation.

Can you do a single card test?

I only have time to test once last night before going to bed but i got a worse score. Not really promising. Haha.

I had very small improvements in single card testing.

Windows 10

Anyone know how to disable or change the login at start up?

It's annoying cos it uses my Live account ID and password, thing is I use a Password Manager; so I need to get my phone out and type out a huge password every time I boot up now =/

Sad to hear W8's scaling issues carried over into W10.

I'll jump in when DX12 is relevant and drivers are caught up. Until then, I'm perfectly happy with 7 and 8 currently.
it's the best thing to do, I'm on 10 because 7 was bogging my pc down after years of use and I was given a win 8 key so i upgraded last year, only reason I went to 10 in beta was because I wanted to see the improvements over 8 and have a start bar back.

There's a way in Windows 7/8, but I haven't tried it in 10. It probably still works. Google for "disable Windows login at startup".

Open Run > type netplwiz > uncheck "must enter user and pass" something > close the window and it will ask you to enter your current account's password (just ignore the id field)

Just set a 4 digit pin and use that instead...no need for your password then and you stay secure

Are you using the license currently on your PC? If so, just hit "skip" when it asks for a license. In fact, I don't see why you'd enter a key there unless you bought Windows 10 for some reason.

I have Win 7 Pro and have never had any form of Win 10 on the system. Can I/should I skip any prompts for the product key?

Just thought I'd get clarification on this point before starting the media upgrade tool, though like someone else has said, it has disappeared from my taskbar too...

So far so good but I'm having 2 issues:

1) I have 3 bundled apps, Reader and a couple others, that say they have updates in the store but they will never install. It just hangs on "Acquiring License" and then fails with an error. The error varies between a couple possibilities. Anyone else have this issue? I've tried various fixes but these apps simply won't get past that point. I can download and update other apps just fine after a few tries but these just refuse.

2) No native Sound Blaster X-Fi drivers but I blame Creative Labs for that. The Win8 drivers work for basic compatibility but it's bare bones and buggy. I can live with this until the drivers are ready, which is scheduled for October (ugh)

Is there any way to stop the game dvr from automatically starting up? It's eating up my RAM and I keep having to end it despite not even opening it in the first place.

I have 2 problems:

1-The classic windows image viewer doesn't show up in the config app, when i try to open a JPG archive using the option "Open With", the image viewer doesn't appear, also it doesn't work when i try to force setting it as default app to open those kind of images.

2 - For some reason, 5 minutes after the start of my PC, a notification of "Antivirus not detected" shows up, but it disappear instantly, like less than a second.

Other than that, everything looks fine to me, any idea?

I couldn't upgrade to Win 10 with my Intel G3258 overclocked. The update failed every time, which was damn annoying. As soon as I changed the CPU back to stock settings the upgrade finally worked.

Go to the Xbox app -> Settings -> Game DVR -> Turn off the top option and 'Record that'

My only problem with windows10 is that my hard drive is always at 100% usage.. I don't know what to do.
What process is accessing the disk?

It probably means your OC is not stable with your settings.

So I tried the forced method mentioned earlier in here and it wiped out the 1.5gbish files that were in the download folder, I ran the prompt as Admin and it filled the folder back up with about 90mb of files and now there's nothing happening. The post said to check your Windows Update in Control Panel to see if stuff is downloading but I'm not seeing this anywhere.

Any ideas how to progress or is it just stuck? Been about 20 mins now.

I must be one of the lucky ones. I downloaded the installer, it did its thing for about 30-45 minutes, and now Windows 10 runs perfectly for me and seems to be a lot faster and slicker than 8.1. Good stuff.

So very first game I try, Tales from the Borderlands, and I already ran into a pretty annoying issue. I previously was playing it at 4k just fine but now when I boot it up my mouse cursor is tiny and limited to the top left quadrant of the screen. I couldn't even switch resolutions in-game, because the ability to hit 'Back' was out of reach of the mouse, and there was no way to go back with the keyboard. So I had to Alt+F4 out of it, go into Nvidia Control Panel and disable DSR so I could boot the game up in 1080p and have it playable.

Not a good start.

With all the other annoyances I'm encountering, I'm really getting aggravated with Windows 10 so far.

Its not good overall. 7 was solid, its just not going to surpassed any time soon.

"System" seems to be one that is always on top.. I did the upgrade and it was fine, once i did a clean install with an ISO the hard drive is always stuck at 100%
Antimalware service executable appears sometimes too.
The pc is extremely slow..

I used the dreamspark ISO to install Win 10, but it never asked for a product key so.. I guess I just upgraded from Win 8?

Also, what the hell am I supposed to do with the Nvidia drivers? I can't open Geforce Experience, I can't uninstall it, downloading just the driver installer doesn't work, nothing. Everything just keeps saying "installer failed" and it's kind of fucking annoying.

e: Looks like DDU might have done the trick

Does swiping on a tablet not go back and forth on web pages now? Kind of ruins shit for me and I dread upgrading to this on my tablet.

I just want to swipe right and back pages on websites.

Todays problem, my icons are taking ages to load in explorer. When i click the explorer address bar to bring up other items in the parent folder, its "searching".

So far, 10 is just the same as 8, nothing has really changed in the UI aspect. We just have new incompatibility problems (but that's expected).

I'm traveling until September 1st so won't be able to try 10 until then. Hope most of the issues are fixed. I might have misread your earlier post. What I meant was OS wise 8.1 was superior to 7.

If hard drive is 100% usage, it's going to make your computer slow, especially if the OS is on it. Googling seems to show many possible issues. Since its a fresh install, just do reinstall again.

Thats fair, but imo, i still found issues with 8.1 over 7. The UI inconsistencies mainly. The underlying OS is better however in 8.1, and again better in 10, but having 1fps more or some insignificant performance gain doesnt excuse a poor UI that i use all the time.

why do you have UAC off? it works fine post-vista

Define "works", because UAC never did anything useful for me except tell me that im launching an exe that i want to launch. It worked in 7 because you could turn it off without messing up elevated commands, but in 8 and 10 its broken again.
