Upgrade to Windows 10?

We insiders have had the final code for over a week. You should see nothing happen if your already using windows 10

Not so sure about that, the folder had started filling up on my 10240 build that had been upgraded from WIn 7 to 10130 all the way to 10240.

I just upgraded another win 7 machine using the leaked RTM iso, all is well, activated and everything.

Lets say I TOTALY don't like Windows 10. Will I be able to revert back to Windows 7? or will my CD KEY be for ever changed to a WIN10 key?

I know because I have said final code on my desktop PC. But good ole MS disabled the link on the Windows Insiders webpage not long after that so I cannot upgrade any other PC until the roll out on the 29th.

You can go back to your previous installation of Windows within a month (i.e. the options will disappear after a month) IIRC.

Your current key won't be affected, it will still work, but you can't use your free copy of Windows 10 and Windows 7 at the same time.

One thing that pissed me off with regards to the Windows 10 Preview program thing...is that it went ahead and deleted windows.old after a particular update.

That happen to anyone else? I lost a ton...

And then they delete the old files without warning?! Wow...

Not sure if it warns you but if you're not gonna use Windows 7 it's just a waste of space. Your personal files, applications etc. will still be there.

Only thing that is preventing me from jumping in at the moment is that all my emulators will probably stop working.

Is there a fresh install version or is it just upgrade?

for anyone still having issues, here is a link to MS forums that has instructions to help reserve copy of windows 10. (hopefully not posted yet)

Win10 Instructions

I had to check windows 8.1 update settings " give recommended updates the same way I recieve important updates" and DL all the required updates and RESTART. Once you DL all the important updates and have restarted, wait 30min and if the icon does not appear try reading through the guide in the link I posted.
My icon appeared as soon as I installed all the updates it needed and restarted, hopes this helps

All mine work, and I have a ton... In fact, everything just...works! Even on Apple hardware.

For whatever reason, this particular laptop isn't getting the "upgrade to windows 10" icon. Every other laptop in the house does: 2 other Hp Laptops, both from costco. I don't believe i did anything different to this one than the others regarding registration or anything. Any ideas? Or is there some way for me to look into it further?

So how is a fresh install possible after you upgrade?

Basically what you do is once you burn the ISO to disc, just pop in the disc when you turn on the PC, it will ask you to press any key to install from disc, you will be asked if you want to wipe your hard drive and format it, you do, dont put in any serial # or key or anything just skip that part, and when your PC is done installing windows 10 you will see its fully activated because your windows 8(or 7 whatever you are upgrading from) was legit

I see no new folders on all 3 of my 1024 computers. There have been a steady stream of security updates over the last few days though.

Yes once you upgrade go into control panel and choose refresh your pc, when it asks choose not to keep anything and it will do a clean install.

You should be able to make boot media of your install for either a USB drive or DVD.

Thanks!

I finally managed to redeem it!

How long will the change take once I press the button to upgrade? I might do it tonight if it doesn't take too long.

you were able to play pso 2 on windows 10 as of 2 or 3 weeks ago actually. worked fine for me when I was messing around with the game last week.

Nice, well time to upgrade my main computer then.

Shame I can't upgrade my work/game laptop though. Fucking AC Delco are taking their sweet ass time getting their SPS software compatible with windows 10. I won't be able to flash any cars and they say it will be months before they even try to do anything.

I've decided to just do upgrade. PC doesnt really perform bad by any means, and I dont really have the means to back up all my music/pictures/game saves/ whatever at the moment.

I know the majority are cloud steam and origin saves, but there are still some things that arent.

Says my 980 Ti is not compatible, lol

Won't let me proceed with an upgrade due to that. I tried manually running the assessment tool and same thing.

So one guy says DS4Windows works for him, another says it doesn't. Can anyone shed any light on this? It's the only thing keeping me from upgrading.

My 980 Ti said it's compatible. What Nvidia driver are you using? I'm using 353.49 on Win 7.

No reserve icon for me ever since I formatted my computer. It won't come on again even with all the different methods out there. I guess im screwed.
