Upgrade to Windows 10?

I have a question I hope someone can help me with.

I have three SSD's. One with the OS and apps/programs. The other for a little music and gameplay I record with Shadowplay. And the big 500GB SSD is for my Steam/Games. If I wipe the OS SSD and do a clean install of 10, will I lose all of those games on the 500GB SSD?

No, but you might have to reinstall a bunch of them due to missing registry entries and such.

All right! I figured it out!

I didnt have my updates set to automatic, I had it set to "Download for me, but let me choose when to install".

Question - To anyone who has Win10 downloaded, can you run the setup file? I just browsed to my $windows~bt directory and saw that (what appears to be) everything is there. Clicked the setup.exe and it pops up with "windows is missing boot.wim." Is this file being held back by MS until Win10 unlocks? Or is my download borked? I figured I could install it now, have it drop to 180 day trial, and activate tomorrow once everything goes live...

Supposedly running setup with a completed download has a chance of deleting all the files.
So not a good idea.

Anyone know if the Samsung Magician software is compatible with Windows 10? I've read about possible issues with Magician and Rapid Mode.

Have you tried disabling classic shell? The Windows icon should be in the task bar next to the clock, volume, and internet connection icons, if that's what you're talking about?

Yeah im not seeing that icon, shell might be interfering with it so Ill disable it if I can remember how.

RIP Battlefront II.

Keep in mind that is in no way official, and is not comprehensive. As an example, Dota 2 isn't on that list, but I promise it works perfectly fine (both regular and Reborn clients).

I played Battlefront 2 a while ago (probably in one of the earlier builds of Win10) and didn't have issues.

And of course, some issues that people encountered could be related to their hardware setup, and not an issue with the OS necessarily. It's far from scientific.

Do I have to go through all of this or can I just wait until midnight to update normally?

Just wait. You'll get notifications when it's ready to go. Obviously people here are just excited and want to get it installed ASAP. :P

do you need to have ALL important windows update to be installed before i can install w10?

I believe so. Also have "Automatically install updates" enabled.

I've been screwing around with it for a bit, ran setup at least 7 times and haven't had anything change or delete. My folder size has been 5.97 GB the whole time. I was thinking of dropping a boot.wim in from a preview version, but maybe I'll just wait until tomorrow. Better not press my luck.

Its pretty cool you can use Xbox 360 controllers for Xbox One streaming. I was playing KI with my 360 stick made the game much more enjoyable and comfortable rather than using the Xbox One pad.

Edit: ShadowRun Returns: Dragonfall Directors Cut works.

To people whose $Windows.~BT is reporting 140MB.

The files are being downloaded to a folder in C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download before getting moved to $Windows.~BT.

If go into Resource Monitor and switch to network, you might notice that svchost is downloading something pretty big in the background too.

I know for windows 7 you definitely need to have service pack 1 installed before progressing.

I went ahead and made sure my 8.1 was up-to-date just to make sure there were no hiccups during installation.

Just got it installed and functioning without any issues. Confirmed Reddit trick works.

However, I was an Insider so I know we get it first. This may be why I was able to install it and some were not.

I already reverted. There were too many issues off the bat. cpu 100% at idle. I think my upgrade wasn't even the up to date W10.
People have been reporting it taking time to "settle" after first boot. Even a considerable amount of time in some cases. So dunno.

It only worked for me once I set updates to install automatically - it was set to check but not install.

Could be just a coincidence but worth a shot I guess.

Mine was set to auto but still did not work. So I changed it to one of the other choices and then back and tried it again and now it is downloading.

Did the "wuauclt.exe /updatenow".

Download 2.7GB.

Got the "Prepare to Install..."

Extract to a 6.39GB $Windows.~BT folder.

Installation failed error.
