Upgrade to Windows 10?

When plugging iphone in to import pictures. Difference from Windows 8. In Windows 8, I would plug my phone in and it would display all the pictures on the phone and highlight the new ones. I would then click IMPORT. Boom. Done.

With Windows 10 it doesnt seem as straight forward. I plug my phone in and sometimes nothing happens. If something does happen, a window appears with several options (most not related to photo import) and when I do click the iphone section, I have to click like 3 choices to import. Very clumsy.

Any way to get photo import back to the way windows 8 was?

I did the command trick, I just deleted everything from the folder, ran command prompt under admin, put in the code and then ran windows update from the control panel (not the metro one). It downloaded and now im currently installing it. Its on a all black screen with a circle with the percentage now

Anyone know how to force the download? "wuauclt.exe /updatenow" isn't working for me, and that's what I heard as the download forcing command.

Not sure if it's really the reason behind this, but apparently a lot of older software checked Windows version by pretty much going
if WindowsVersion 9*
Assume Windows 95 or 98

That remains a silly explanation since it would take no effort to instruct Windows to redirect that format and trick the application into working properly.

They could have also used a different internal code, and still call it W9 on the outside.

9. Windows 8
10. Windows 10

So by just counting them from 1 to 10, Windows 7 is actualy the 8th windows? Windows 8 is 9, so 10 is actualy 10 lol?

That's not a bad theory, but if you're going to include 2000 in this list, you'd need to throw NT in there, too... and then it doesn't quite add up. :)

I don't think it ever started out as just Windows. If it did then you completely missed Windows 1, 2, 3.1, 3.2 etc

It's worth noting that Microsoft has branded Windows 10 as version 10 of the kernel as of RTM. Windows Vista through 8.1 have been 6.X.

Only if you skip a shitload of versions.

Even cut down on incremental versions (ie. only counting something like 1.1, not 1.01), these are the ones I know off the top of my head:

Windows 1.0
Windows 2.0
Windows 2.1
Windows 3.0
Windows 3.1
Windows NT 3.1
Windows 95
Windows NT 4.0
Windows 98
Windows ME
Windows 2000
Windows XP
Windows Vista
WIndows 7
Windows 8
Windows 8.1
Windows 10

lol I am sure the name had nothing to do with logic but more to do with taking a bigger leap. For example Windows 9 from Windows 8 definitely makes sense BUT Windows 10 is not just traditionally bigger and better OS. This literally will be their last OS and it will keep involving under same name. It just to emphasise the biggest leap ever or what not. And if its gonna be your last OS before you drop the number, why not just go with 10 and not 9 hehe

Windows > Windows 95?

There are at least three versions of Windows before 95 depending on how you count.

Going to 10 is mostly a marketing thing. Especially as this will be the last traditional release of Windows. There's probably some weird parity thing going on with OS X there.

I originally got the 80240020 error when attempting to install Windows 10.

  1. Deleted the C:/Windows/SoftwareDistribution/Download contents.
  2. Ran wuauclt.exe /updatenow as an Admin
  3. Opened Windows Update
  4. My install is working!

Nevermind my dudes, same thing happened.

I just need lastpass extensions to edge and I will just wholeheartedly to this browser. For now, I'll stay with my chrome.

Got the same error. Delete them files, and now, downloading 5.398GB.

Great, stuck forever checking for windows updates. I have head this is a bug and I've never had any luck fixing it.

Curious to know why there are so many rushing ahead to install? Is it a "must have latest thing" dilemma?
Would it not be better to hold off a little?

I typed "wuauclt.exe /updatenow" into cmd and it started right away.
Did the same. Windows Update is now "Checking requirements." Hopefully it'll start soon so that I can install it overnight.
Edit: Downloading now. 2,712.6 MB total. Awesome
Are there Nvidia Drivers for Windows 10 yet? because i see none on their site. How does that work?
Driver 353.30 is Windows 10 compatible: http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/86512/en-us

The most recent ones have been popping up on Windows Update. It's mainly the reason why people were freaking out this past week.

Also you have to scroll up in the OS selection window to see Windows 10 on their site. Those drivers are outdated though.

So if we already have the $Windows hidden folder and its got 5+GB of data, we shouldnt need to mess around with "wuauclt.exe /updatenow" right?

Any news on how to install Windows 10 even if you don't reserve it? For some reason my PC should meet all of the requirements, but I have yet to see the Reserve option yet.

Downloaded and got over half way when it said 'Preparing to install' and failed twice, so I did the trick from reddit

First time it downloaded a 2GB file, second time a 5GB file and now it's downloading an 8GB file
