WiFi Sense will automatically connect you to detected crowdsourced WiFi networks, acquire network information and provide “additional info” to networks that require it (it’s not clear exactly what constitutes additional info), and can be used to automatically share your WiFi password with your contacts on Facebook, Skype, and Outlook.
That last feature is the potentially controversial one. WiFi Sense is enabled by default in Build 10240 of Windows 10; if you choose “Express Settings,” Microsoft enables the option and allows your device to acquire WiFi passwords from friends and shares your password with the same group of people. If you choose to leave the function enabled (or turn it on manually, as shown below), it will request permission to connect to Outlook, Skype, and Facebook on your behalf. Other users on your friends list who also run Windows 10 will have their contact information shared with you as well, assuming they also enable the feature.
If you first upgrade and then choose to clean install, as im planning mobo change. At what point does it ask for the key? Ive read about signing into your ms account but for win 8.1 pro ive only ever used a local account profile. So im guessing you just input your win 8 key?
So apparently Windows 10 sends out your WIFI passwords among other details. Saw Jonathan Blow tweet about it:
- "Cool, Windows 10 sends your Wifi password to Microsoft, that is just what I wanted."
Something to do with Windows 10's "Wifi Sense" sharing your password with facebook / outlook / skype contacts
The link tells you how to disable it. Also some Windows apps have ads... fun
Finally installed Windows 10, but I can't open Nvidia Control panel. Also Firefox is really sluggish (youtube videos lag), although Microsoft Edge works perfect, but I want to use Firefox.
This is false info. Upgrading is perfectly fine nowadays
erm when you get to the set up windows it asks you about all this and connecting to hot spots etc and asks if u want it disabled
Please help![]()

Are you ok with deleting everything from the disk? If so, bring up the prompt with Shift + F10, then DISKPART, list disk, select disk # (# being the number of the disk you want to install, of course), then clean.
Should make it available.
I've only did this with HDDs though, it shouldn't make a difference if it's an SSD, but can't guarantee it'll work.
Apparently not if you choose the express setup, so claims the article
I was really iffy on this as well but decided to bite the bullet and upgraded last night. I tried using the DS4 natively on The Witcher since I heard of the DS4Windows/InputMapper issues and it worked without issue, then I decided to fire up InputMapper and to my surprise I was able to enable exclusive mode to hide the DS4 and all of my custom macros for The Witcher worked without any hints of double-input issues. Not sure if it works out this well for everyone, but it seems problem-free for me.
The only issue I had with the upgrade was needing to perform a clean install of my NVidia drivers, but after doing so I was able to increase my 3DMark FireStrike graphics score from 29294 to 30697 with no flickering/artifacting issues encountered in The Witcher and Dirty Bomb when I tested those last night (limited playtime anyways, but no immediate apparent issues).
How does this work if you have multiple computers/keys and use the same account?
Tried to download the ISO twice and upon completion it gave the "Something happened" error. Not even sure what the fuck is happening.
So just hit skip?

Haven't gotten any kind of message prompt yet but I checked my Windows Updates and there were two instances where "Update to Windows 10" is listed and it states that the update failed.
Should I not concern myself about that or?

Having the same issue, apparently quite a few people have that but im unaware of a solution.
You sure you didn't do the classic double-tap corner? Is there a light on near the touchpad? So I seem to have a pretty major issue right now.
My touchpad on my laptop doesn't work.
I've got a mouse so it's not unusable, but it's very annoying.
If you formatted or replaced your hard drive, you won't be able to use a product key to update to Windows 10. You'll need to install your previous version of Windows, and then reinstall Windows 10.

Why won't you just put the 7/8.1 Keys on a global list and let people do shit the easy way?
W10 tries to use an advanced profile for certain touchpads/drivers. Check with your manufacturer.
When i look at update history it says failed "Upgrade to windows 10 pro"
So I upgraded to windows 10 and I'm in the Xbox app and there is no button called "connect" that allows me to stream Xbox one. Upsetting![]()
Regarding Nvidia drivers, how does this work? I uninstalled my driver, now, when I install the os it will install new drivers too, can I stuck with those or do I need to manually download them again from Nvidia site to avoid issues?
I found out what's going on. Upgrade is staggered, like some suspected. Soon your windows 10 icon tool will tell you that the release is staged and you'll be notified when your upgrade is ready.
So I guess I'll have to downgrade to 8.1 then back up to 10 to get it activated using my old key?

Yep.
You can bypass the failure by deleting the contents of a folder and running a command prompt like in OP.
I had it too. You can download it manually if you want it asap https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
Windows 10 automatically installs a borked version of 353.62 once you install. Sometimes it breaks displays or control panel. A clean driver install after W10 finishes is recommended.
If you don't want to wait, you can bypass the wait.

Yep.
Progress report. I've manually rebooted as some people have suggested, but it still seems to be hanging as soon as I start back up. :/

Nope. Tried that. The entire 8gb update downloaded and i got the "We need to check your device" screen, then I was bounced back into waiting for the update. I few people are having this problem.
Does it matter at all if I never got the Reserve Windows 10 popup?
Make sure your copy of Windows 8.1 is completely up to date before attempting.
No, I just forced it on a computer that never reserved a copy.
