Upgrade to Windows 10?

My Laptop got the upgrade early at 1 am but my desktop still ain't have it and all it says is We're validating Windows 10 for your PC, we're continuously working with our partners to ensure that even more PCs work well with Windows 10....

Probably a driver issue...you can force it with the iso utility if you want...but you might want to wait

for those who fixed nvidia issues, can you please detail the steps?

i understand win 10 will auto install a driver which is no good, so you then uninstall that and then install the nvidia one (latest) without rebooting. how do you block win 10 from reinstalling the bad driver?

So there's a reddit thread of Windows sellers that seem to be legit. They're inexpensive since they say they buy in bulk.

Which Windows versions should I get? Should I be careful about anything?

So far so good, my only problem is my wireless 360 controller. I bought one of those unofficial adapters and now it's not working. Anyone else had any luck? Are there new drivers I could download?

Hey I saw your message sorry I didn't respond. Yeah if you use small you only have the option of the button. If you use regular you can right click and go into the Cortana menu and choose button or box...honestly it doesn't matter much. if you hit start button you can start typing no matter what and it will work. You can also turn it off entirely on both which is what I do because I only enter the dialog with the start button

You sir, just blew my mind for the day. Wow, that's cool. I wish they advertised that a little more, because it's a super easy thing to overlook if you don't know about it.

Just finished my 3rd PC myself with 0 issues. All going from 8.1 to 10 though, I don't own any 7 machines.

Can you tell me what version of windows 10 it shows on your end that you have? I downloaded Windows 10 Pro on my laptop a few days ago and it shows it as version 10.0.10240.16384 yet some claim a KB3074683 patch (Which turns out I downloaded days ago) is supposed to change it to a higher version but for me it does NOT..so I want to make sure Im not on some crazy preview build

got the black screen for about 30 minutes so I forced a reboot and it rolled back to windows 7. are people having luck just waiting the black screen out? This is some classic microsoft shit here.

I am so done with this shit. It is just one explainable error after another. After finally actually being able to download the ISO properly, now the installation is hanging at 6% then punting me back to Windows 7.

Any genius could've seen that this rollout was gonna be a disaster.

I had it hanging at 6 for a while too, I was about to slap my case when it suddenly jumped to 14.

I have spent the whole afternoon doing this "upgrade", it felt like I had to relearn everything about partitions, usb boot etc. for it to happen.

Good thing it is supposed to be the last windows version.

9 times out of 10, this happens when my PC launches. The explorer also doesn't launch, I have to do it myself...

Not to mention that the only time it works, I have absolutly no sound, things crash randomly and I tried playing a game and the performance is worse than on Win 7.

I'm hopeless...

Okay, further research shows that everyone has the same key. So yeah, try putting VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T in as a key. Not sure if it's different for the different versions, but that's what people have for Windows 10 Pro.

So I was wrong initially. Sorry!

so what that key for? will I still need to activate using my own key?

I spoke to MS support and they keep telling me you cant do a clean install, only an upgrade which is very contradictory to peoples experiences here.

I really don't want to reinstall 8 then upgrade to 10 when I have 10 here. would rather just buy a cheap key in all honesty!

Mines fucked. Can't open a single app. Not even the start menu. Can't open display settings as it comes up with an error saying the trial has expired for this app?!?! The fucking display settings app?!?! Are you kidding me

Can I make a clean install using the download tool without problems with my original licence? or should I update first?

Okay this is coming up a lot...upgrade first Your windows 7 or 8.1 key will not activate windows 10...through the process of upgrading it activates your copy...afterwards you can clean install

Is there a way to force the keyboard inputs? Everytime I launch it defaults to US layout, I want my swedish layout dammit.

It's the key everybody who upgraded has. I don't know if it's always necessary to input, as people seem to have activated without it, but I was in a similar position to you and wanted to see if it would activate just by me logging in. It didn't for me, but putting that key in made it activate immediately.

Which is better between Pro and Education edition?

Windows 10 Education edition is up on dreamspark, but I can use my windows 7/8.1 key and upgrade to 10 Pro.

Getting lost with how fast this thread is moving here :s

Is it possible to upgrade from the USB I have created?
Or should I be using the icon if/when that comes on?

People who are having problems, have you updated because you got the notification to do so, or are you forcing the update?

Yep. If you are forcing the update you are taking your life into your own hands. You lose the right to end your story with "fuck Microsoft" :)

How do you upgrade on Windows 7? The only updates I see right now are optional ones and there's no Windows 10 icon on my desktop.

Windows 10 apparently downloaded with Windows Update this morning and I now have the option to upgrade. I don't what to upgrade right now but just wanted to know how long do I have be I choose to install?

Go here and download Swedish...and click on language and it will give you opportunity to switch to default

EDIT: okay that's not quite it...this is for os language...once you get the one you want click on it and go to options...you can select the right keyboard from there

If you do the upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Can you go back to 7 ? Mainly, will the original Win7 key still work for the Win7 activation ?

I'm running Windows 10. Just been playing about with settings and seeing what's new.

I have to say it feels really sluggish for me. 8.1 was very fast/smooth but 10 seems to struggle opening games/dealing with menus. Too early to say but performance in Witcher 3 seems worse. Seems to be quite a bit of stuttering. I'll need to spend more time before deciding if I should go back to 8.1

Just got Xbox One to PC streaming working and it works really well.

Cortana isn't working for me though "Cortana Is Disable By Company Policy" is what I get told.

What version of windows do you have (pro, home, etc) Might just be an error...would search for it then

thanks

Chris

This could be due to their staggered rollout or they haven't signed off on the drivers being good on your particular computer...laptops or tablets especially are very reliant on their drivers working well

Just upgraded from 8.1 pro to 10 pro with the media tool, all fine and dandy not a big issue but noticed that steam game updates don't start at all. Was going to use the reset option to reinstall a fresh instance, will this keep the current activation key?

I upgraded via Microsoft's notification in the toolbar. I'm just gonna go ahead, and just like leave it going all day to see if anything happens.

I upgraded my seven year old laptop with Windows 10 and it runs buttery smooth. It's like having a new laptop all over again and looks very modern. Best move Microsoft have pulled in a long while.

I've had the opposite, tried three times already and Xbox One streaming is unplayably laggy.

If you refresh it will keep the key.
