Upgrade to Windows 10?

make sure you uninstall that mod [whichever you used].

I used start8 - and until I uninstalled it my start menu did NOT look or work properly at all.

Weird, mine turned out just fine. Just kind of miss the basic layout I had previously. Although finding stuff with the new menu is much easier then before. Just remembered the name, it was classic shell,

How's everybody finding it on unsupported Mobo's? Ive got a P8Z77-V and my Microsoft update logo just says Win 10 not recommended for my system yet...and to wait.....

Running the exact same board in my build and I'm running Win 10 without any issues. Haven't tested 1394 ports or anything, but on-board sound, usb ports, network adapters, etc. are all functioning just fine.

Started to enable Cortana and it's like this thing needs my blood type, finger prints, social security, and a camera installed in all my rooms. I see where Microsoft is going with this thing. Want those advertising bucks, and information on a lot of people like google.

Now to just stick with not using that feature that required Cortana and undo what I just did on the way to finally enable it.

As a person who's been using Cortana since her inception from the phone to the Insider builds...she's actually a really good tool to use once she has the information about you (which you can delete at anytime). I added a lot of news interests and she's know like my little flipboard.

Geforce Experience won't install for me

If I'm not mistaken you have to restart your comp and then it will work, I know mine did.

Hey, with Windows 10 i have a strange bug with Hearthstone. Everything is fine with medium settings, but if i switch to high settings, everytime i restart the game i just have a brown screen on startup, so i have to reset the settings. Am i the only one :o ?

So this Xbox App Game Bar, is it supposed to work in any game application? for example, I can record in game csgo with windows key+alt + r but I can't bring up the actual game bar with windows key + G. In GTA V however the game bar will show and I can use my 360 pad too. So I'm just wondering if certain games a have proper support compared to others.

It should work with any application, it's not just games. So that's weird why it wouldn't work.

I'm about to start the update and I have a few questions.
  1. The SSD Disk where I have my Windows 7 based has about 24 gb free. Is that enough?
  2. Is there any content on my PC that will NOT be spared from the update? (ex. the stuff I have on desktop for some reason)
  3. I have lots of games installed. Do I have to re-install them?
  4. The licence opens up saying to read "If I'm based in the US". Does that mean that I don't have to read it?
  5. If it ends up and Windows 10 suck, can I easilly return to my Windows 7? (without the need to find my serial codes, formating or reinstalling).

Anyone?

I did my upgrade yesterday and have been using it all day today. Everything is where it should be, and everything I have run has been perfect. I have not encountered a single problem, and the OS is for sure an upgrade from 8.1.

If you are on the fence, go for it is my advice.

So I kinda messed up my first upgrade. I did a clean install afterwards by using a USB and then Windows wouldn't activate. So.. I had to go back to windows 8, 8.1 and back to 10 and it took all day. However this time, I noticed when I did some updating in windows 8 my Ethernet connection would not work every other boot up. Its shows as connected but I just can't connect to anything.

A quick fix is to disable and enable the connection in Network Connections, but that's not really something I want to do every boot up. What's the best way to fix this(I already reinstalled the driver multiple times and in my first instance of Windows 10 it was working fine)?

I'm thinking to do a clean install of Windows 10, but this time properly? What's the best way to do it? Last time it was asking me for a product key during setup and when I finished setup, it told me I had an invalid key.

EDIT: Nvm boys, did another clean install and it seems to be working. Umbasa my friends.

Yes, seems that it wants about 5-10 gb free. I'm trying to install it on an intel stick that only has 14.7 gb total and it was complaining it needs 5gb free, but I only had 3
  2. Is there any content on my PC that will NOT be spared from the update? (ex. the stuff I have on desktop for some reason)
It seems to keep everything intact, however, on my main PC I did a refresh after it was running and wiped it clean
  3. I have lots of games installed. Do I have to re-install them?
I have my games on another harddrive and steam just needed to do its initial check and was able to play. If you are doing the same, it should.
  4. The licence opens up saying to read "If I'm based in the US". Does that mean that I don't have to read it?
Dunno, do you want to read it? :D
  5. If it ends up and Windows 10 suck, can I easilly return to my Windows 7? (without the need to find my serial codes, formating or reinstalling).
Yep, as long as you don't do a refresh you should be able to revert. I lost the ability do it and it even gives a warning.

I say go for it. Just make sure you have your windows 7 key handy though.

Haha been using her on Windows phone for a while. That info helps make her a legit assistant

Plus if you enable "hey Cortana" you just have to speak out loud to her to open programs do web searches or make appointments reminders and send emails etc

Don't worry I've got ya
1: 24 gb should be fine...you can delete old windows when you are done so you should end up with the same
2. everything should still be there at the end (no guarantees in upgrades though)
3. you don't need to reinstall games...heard some issues with steam so might need to reinstall that but not really an issue
4. no idea on licensing stuff
5. If you don't delete the old windows stuff you can revert to 7 at any point in the next 30 days...its in settings and updates under recovery

1. yes
2. it will prompt you to uninstall software that is not compatbile, aka antivirus etc.
3. no
4. no one else does, but you should.
5. yes if you dont remove the roll back stuff in disk cleanup

Thanks guys!
I'm using Kaspersky legally.
I trust they are professional enough to have made the necessary compatibility updates.

Not my image, but it looks like this.

I am having this problem, and google isn't offering that much help.
So I am trying to upgrade my Acer all-in-one computer to Win 10 and using the toolkit since it is still stuck in reserved status.
Every time it hits 100% progress, “Modern Setup Host has stopped working” will pop up and prevent from fully upgrading the OS.

Any tip? The only tip is to install it from a flash drive but then this win 8 copy will not be validated =/.

What is windows 10 pro N missing?

Additional Windows 8 editions specially destined for European markets have the letter "N" (e.g. Windows 8.1 Enterprise N) suffixed to their names and do not include a bundled copy of Windows Media Player. Microsoft was required to create the "N" editions of Windows after the European Commission ruled in 2004 that it needed to provide a copy of Windows without Windows Media Player tied in.

I assume the same applies for Windows 10.

I was positive Win10 had caused an issue in Illustrator where it wouldn't let me save/save-as for outputs, and I was furious.

Then it turned out to be one of those fluke corrupted document things that pops up like...every two years or so. Got'dang that's aggravating.

Just upgraded and my resolution has turned to "pathetic" by default!
Going to settings-display doesn't do shit!
How do I fix it!

My eyes can't take much of this!
PLEASE!!!!

this upgrade process has been painful for my laptop (win 7 home)

It simply isn't working. I've copied the installation files to a USB but it gives me some weird error when booting up and upgrading.

It tells me I must remove the installation media, restart my computer, and try again. I've done that 10 times and it doesn't do anything but give that same BS error.

I've tried deleting the files and opening cmd.exe with the command line trick but it doesn't make any difference. It says failed installation.

If I try booting the USB from my computer, it asks me to enter the Windows 10 product key, with no option to skip it. The fuck?

Wow...How the hell do we Alt+tab to desktop now?
I have to use my mouse...

Alt+tab=cycle apps...who fucking cares, I want my desktop.

Edit: Holy shit, Win+D?
Fuck you MS.

When I upgraded I tried to install the Nvidia driver from Nvidia's website. It wouldn't work because it said something was already installing. So I just restarted my computer and apparently Windows Update was installing it and after a restart all the Nvidia stuff I was trying to install was there.

You need to go to nVidia's (or AMD's, whatever graphics card you have) site and download the latest drivers for your graphics card. This will allow you to fix the resolution.
