Upgrade to Windows 10?

I installed windows 10 pro (coming from 8.1 pro). After installation, I could not adjust my screen display to 1920x1080.

I then I download Nvidia Win10 drivers for my 980ti and they failed to install. After that my monitor has been displaying black. However, I can see and move my mouse cursor.

When I cold restarted windows 10 I can get the Logo to post then is like a greyish black then all I can do is move my mouse.

Edit: I also did a clean install from 8.1

Thoughts?

My mind was just blown. Harder than anything's ever been blown before.

Try this out.

1) Open a command prompt
2) Hit Ctrl+F

Make sure someone is standing around so they can clean your brain up off the floor after your mind is blown.

FYI, you may have to turn off the 'legacy console' in command prompt settings first

but yeah, this is amazing to me as a frequent cmd user (along w/ the other new options)

Installing NVIDIA drivers has been frustrating. Both direct download and installing it via geforce Experience have failed several times.

Click the menu button in the upper-left and click "check my PC" and see what compat report it gives you.

Mine says I'm good to go. The only thing it flagged was that Windows Media Center will be uninstalled.

If I uninstall WMC will it increase my chances of getting the upgrade soon?

Seems like there are more troubleshooting issues going on here so I thought I would post my findings here as well.

Is anyone having issues with their monitor not going into sleep mode at the desired time set in power options? I had no problems with this in 8.1 with my monitor going into sleep mode. Doesn't seem to be working for me in Windows 10. I even tried to set a screensaver to start with 1 minute of idle time and it isn't working. This happened on an upgrade install and a fresh install.

Just wanted to quote myself to let people know that I found out what the issue was in case anyone else has this problem. For some reason, charging my DS4 via my desktop was preventing my PC from believing it was idle. This wasn't a problem on 8.1, but is for 10 for whatever reason.

How do I get W10 to not turn on numlock every time I turn the comp on?

Never happened to me with 7. I have a compact keyboard so numlock changes my letters to numbers, so I never use it. So it's super annoying that it never turns on.

You mean like this?

Clicking any of the links will then open a new tab.

Ah, it only works if bing is the default search engine, not google.

But big never gives me the results I want, so it's kinda useless for me.

I had the same problem.

Finally fixed it by force-quitting any running nvidia process, then running the new drivers' installer.

Is there a way to make the start menu look a bit more like the classic look? With the search bar and such? I don't like the search button on the taskbar.

I'd like to know why MS no longer allows us to right-click the application list and edit it. The tile thing is OK but I have a ton of programs and the big app list is sorted like wtf.

You can turn off the search button on the taskbar

There is no search box on the start menu, but you can just start typing and it will open the search box

Touchpad just wont work know, tried to download Asus drivers and gives me a error, says it is already installed, trying to delete the older ones and wont let me.

LOL

DERB....

After I restarted the computer the display driver kicked in properly. My second monitor which is plugged into my 980ti w/HDMi defaulted as the main screen which was off. Thank god its Friday.,..

All is well. Enjoying Win 10 now a lot! Still trying to figure out if there is a WEI anymore (windows experience index) that tells you your comp rating score.

Upgraded my wife's PC yesterday and mine today. No problems to speak of so far, aside from a few minor annoyances coming from Win7 Ultimate.

I always disable UAC. After Windows updated, it wouldn't let me launch Edge without re-enabling it. So...

Second, I was a little concerned about Creative's lack of Windows 10 drivers for the SB Zx series. But, thanks to some folks over at {H}ardforum, I found this:

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds103440

These drivers work perfectly. Why Creative hasn't pasted these up on their official website, I don't know. They always lag behind, and I was prepared to wait until the "real ones" came out, but then I found these. Use at your own risk, but so far, I haven't had one hitch.

Edge has a lot of potential and eventually replacing Chrome for me. I've had it stutter a time or two (when typing this message actually), but I really like it's sleek form and quick response times.

I've been having an issue with my wired Xbox 360 controller. After about of minute of using it, the controls completely lock up and the controller stops working. My keyboard also stops working too so I always have to reset my computer to get everything working again. I made sure the drivers are updated but it still happens every time. It's happened each time I've tried to use it with Witcher 3 and Rocket League.

So I decided to wait for my time and not force the upgrade. I now see a folder in my C drive named $Windows.~BT. Is this Windows 10, and if so, when will it upgrade me/how do I upgrade?

Yeah, those are the Windows 10 files.

Two days after I saw those appear there I was wondering why I wasn't getting prompted to install Windows 10 then I just went to Windows Update, told it to check for updates and it seemed to trigger the prompt asking me whether I wanted to install it.

On another computer I just clicked on the Get Windows 10 icon in the system tray and it loaded the prompt then after I got it to check the status of my computer.

So try both methods and see if it loads the prompt asking whether you want to install it now.

So the large $Windows.~BT folder remains there on my 120GB SSD drive after the upgrade.

Any reason why I can't delete this myself at this stage? I ran disk cleanup but it does not touch that file.

So far win 10 is worse than 8.1. Keep getting wifi lag I never had before ):

Hard to believe this is because of the OS. I would guess either a driver issue, or some other external factor, like interference.

Did my desktop and worked flawlessly. Now trying to upgrade my laptop and I am having zero luck. Problem I am encountering at the moment is set up is asking for a Windows 10 CD Key. I did not have this pop up during my Desktop upgrade.

My Windows 8.1 is legit and activated on the desktop, should it not ask for the key and just upgrade?

Using the disk I created with the ISO on it.

Edit : Unable to skip. Just a back and next option, both unable to be clicked.

Any tips on setting up a PS3 controller to work? My stick works fine on Skullgirls and Street Fighter 4. My ps3 controller is read but for some reason none of my games recognize it. Do you think the windows 10 transition stopped reading it as a 360 controller?

Edit: Nvm, found out I didn't need to hit force install on scp driver.

I had this issue as my laptop was running 8.1 Home and my desktop 8.1 Pro. The ISO files are different and using the home ISO on my desktop dumped me to the key prompt instead of upgrading. Had to pull the other ISO down to get it to work.

Bugger me. So best way would be to re download on the laptop?
