:-O welcome to 2012.I officially upgraded to an SSD (I kept holding off because I assumed the difference wouldn't be as dramatic).
MY GOD THAT SPEED.
You can make the live.tile part of the start menu much bigger - might be what you want?I set up my start menu but idk. I liked the start menu, I actually liked the start screen, I kinda wish I had the option for both instead of jammed together. It was nice having all my icons and tickers spread out over a full screen.
Yeah, I put my OS and steam games on a 1TB samsung 850 EVO, did a fresh install of Windows 7 and I will simply never be able to go back. It's the single biggest performance increase I've ever had with a PC.
I've got another one coming for my PS4, we'll see how that goes.
Most likely patches.
The performance difference from Win7 -> Win8 -> Win10 is pretty small but it generally has slightly improved. Though, we're talking about <1ms difference so it's something you most likely won't notice unless you compare benchmark numbers before/after.
Only thing I could think is that if you were previously on Win7 and The Witcher takes advantage of DX 11.1 features (which were in Win8.1 and Win10) you may be seeing a boost from that.
But still, a decrease of 5ms on your frame times (taking reshade into account) is pretty good.
Depends on what you compare Win10 to. Compared to Win7 yeah there is a performance boost in some DX11 games - specifically those based on Frostbite3 engine as it is using some features of DX11.2 which is unavailable on Win7. Compared to Win8 - not much has changed in gaming performance of Win10.
That's mean.. I still don't have an SSD![]()
Even more so when it's an M.2 SSD, but even a mediocre SATA 6Gbps SSD runs circles around the fastest HDD or SSHD.You are missing out on something revolutionary. Everyone mentions how much faster they are, but the more important thing is how they make the OS way more responsive and snappy. On a SSD, as soon as you see the Windows desktop, you can start working, while on a HDD, you still have to wait for background loading. Click on your browser, opens instantly and start browsing. File explorer instantly. Photoshop instantly. And, etc. You get the picture.
Thanks, would either option ignore other partitions besides C?I want my stuff to remain ofc.

I'm using a Sandisk Ultra II 480GB in my old Lenovo Brazos laptop and it really breathed new life into it.
Although faster speeds are great for SSDs, most people don't seem to realize the the most important thing about them are they provide almost zero seek times which makes everything, including the OS, so much more responsive and snappy.
As for increase SSD speeds, I went from a SSD raid 0 SATA2 setup => raid 0 SATA3 setup => M.2 and didn't notice much difference each time for my daily use because the seek times didn't really improve.
The one GRIPE I have with W10 is with updates and SLEEP MODE...
Even you have it set so that your computer can NOT be waked by WAKE timers, the scheduled task called "REBOOT" under the 'update orchestrater' windows tasks will still REBOOT the fucking computer for updates while asleep.
I just delete that REBOOT schedule here and there and that seems to do the trick. I leave my computer on SLEEP most of the time when I'm not using it.

Yes to both.I wonder if DS3 tool fo controllers and ps2 emulators work fine on Windows 10?
especially DS3 tool/motionjoy cause I never lay with keyboard/mouse.

MY GOD THAT SPEED.
Just upgraded my laptop to Windows 10 to see if I like it before going whole hog on my gaming PC.
Has anyone had any issues with Steam Mover and Windows 10? Does everything work fine when you upgrade? I us an SSD and 2 HDDs and swap files between them all with whatever I'm currently playing.
Thanks.
So I had the free upgrade feature awhile back and I've ignored it. Today I was thinking of doing the upgrade only to find that it isn't there anymore. I've even tried downloading the manual upgrade from here but nothing happens when I run the .exe.
I guess I missed my 1yr availability period?

Steam Mover works fine here, but in the event that it shouldn't there are plenty of good alternatives.
Link Shell Extension is the superior way of creating symbolic links (directly via Windows Explorer).

Switched from W7 to W10, and it was extremely 'choppy' ocasionally, so I returned to W7.
Is it necessary to do a fresh install to experience W10 in its full glory because honestly, I wasn't impressed.
Most notably my performance dropped in every single game.

It's always wise to do a fresh install. I've done both and haven't had a issue with either method, but I always prefer fresh install. Choppy? Did you install the updates and give it a reboot?
Have you tried completely removing the Xbox app through Powershell? I had a few gaming problems before doing that.
The only thing that 'frightens' me when doing fresh install is that I won't be able to setup internet connection. I always feared that so I rarely reinstalled my windows unless really necessary.![]()
is there a way to just download Win10 and use my win7 key? Or do I have to do the traditional upgrade path?
OK, I've finally taken the plunge on my gaming PC. I don't think I'll use any of the new features, and shut off all of the dodgy info tracking stuff.
I missed most the jump lists, but you can enable them by modifying the registry.
Anyone else miss anything from 7/8?
Does anyone actually use any of 10's new features, like Cortana?
As of the November update, you can just use your Win 7 key after installing 10.

If I was to use the media creation tool to make a windows 10 ISO, does anyone know what version w10 would be at?
I'm asking because my tablet is just now doing the november update and it's taking forever. Of course it would be faster on my PC's ssd but it would be nice if the latest ISO has this included.
"The November update was originally available via the MCT tool, but we've decided that future installs should be through Windows Update," says Microsoft. "People can still download Windows 10 using the MCT tool if they wish. The November update will be delivered via Windows Update."
Looks like it will just be launch version of Windows 10 (Build 10240). You will need to use Windows Update to get Windows 10 Version 1511 (Build 10586).

Download the LAN drivers for your motherboard before doing that. Or use the CD that came with it (if you still have a CD drive).
But I'm pretty sure you won't need it.
Ugghhhh I just had a Windows 10 pop up flick on my screen saying that Windows had errored and was going to shutdown in 1 minute. I tried 'cmd.exe' and then 'shutdown -a' but it just kept telling me that "a shut down is under way" or something like that. Motherfucker, one minute isn't enough to save my file. YOU CUNT.
Edit: This is nothing to do with gaming btw, this is just a Win10 thread I have in my subscriptions.
