Pakistan on Monday played down comments by a top U.S. counterterrorism official that progress has been made recently in the hunt for Osama bin Laden.
... Information Minister Shaikh Rashid Ahmed described the remarks by J. Cofer Black the U.S. State Department coordinator for counterterrorism who visited Pakistan last week as a "political statement."
"We don't have any information about bin Laden," Ahmed told The Associated Press.
I think its come to the point where every single quote from a U.S official needs to be backed up with some sort of reliable data before making its way into any media.
The Defense department does, by their own admission, feed false reports to the news to throw off terrorists. This could be what they mean by political statement. Or Pakistan may not be privy or willing to indulge the information they have. Who knows?
Or they could mean that the Black has not a clue of what he is talking about, and is just repeating the same line for the 1000th time. Like you said, who knows.
