I love how quickly the tone has changed from "WE'RE FUCKED" to everyone, both here and in the media, now convincing themselves that this group isn't that bad.

I'm estimating trip should be about 15k, and that's probably on the cheap side...

Should I take out a loan?

I was wanting to take my family (2 adults, 2 children), but it looks like it would be nearly a 20-25K trip if we wanted to follow the US. That's almost a house downpayment...

It would have been great to take my son to the futbol Mecca during the greatest sporting event in the world, but it looks like that won't be possible. :(

Group G is tough for the US, but I'm not sure if it's the group of death. I don't think Germany is too worried about advancing and on paper none of the games will really pose a great challenge for them. It will be a scrap though for the US, Ghana, and Portugal. I definitely say it's the most competitive group for the second slot.

The pathway for the US to advance is.

- Beat Ghana by at least 2 goals
- Low scoring tie with Portugal
- Lose 0 - 1 to Germany

Then the US needs to hope Ghana and Portugal tie each other and that Germany can beat Portugal by 2 goals.

It's doable, but the US will have to play 3 full games of soccer. They can't have sluggish games or slow starts.

Some random thoughts:

- Maybe I'm believing the hype too much from reading some of the articles, but the more I think about it, the more I think the weather, and especially the travel, won't be as big a factor for us as I originally feared. MLS and CONCACAF has (hopefully) trained most of our players on these factors. (the same can be said for Ghana).

- I don't want us to gamble too much on luck for this group. It's a dangerous group. I think we're probably going to need 6 points, and I know, that's much tougher than it sounds, but I just don't think 4 points is gonna cut it.

- That RB issue.....yeesh!

- I also want to see us play a friendly against one of the other qualified African teams, if possible.

After the sticker shock wears off, you do realize that we aren't quite as fucked as we thought. It comes down to us needing to get a win from Ghana and shutting down Ronaldo. It's easier said than done, I know, but we are a strong side and we've beaten Ronaldo once in the past. One bad day from him and we can squeeze out a win, our making it out will probably hinge on the Ghana game though.

I fully expect Germany to steamroll the group, but it's going to be a tough fight for the other spot.

Don't get caught up on the hype, man. Gotta keep level headed along with the team. this is going to be tough from all angles. Of course, there are positives from it all but it will still be tough.

All i want is qualification to the next stage to depend on US and not on other results.

Another silver lining - If the US are able to advance, they'll have a decent chance to make it to the quarterfinals because they would have been battle hardened. They would likely face Belgium who are in a very weak group and are not exactly a powerhouse despite the FIFA rankings. If the US performed well against Ghana, Portugal, and Germany, they would have a very good puncher's chance against Belgium should they advance to the 2nd round.

What. I would never say playing Belgium would be a silver lining. I would say Belgium is a much tougher challenge than Portugal would be.

Did this get posted yet?

Sodomise if so.

Belgium has beaten the US twice under Klinsmann... in fact 2 of the last 9 losses have been to Belgium.

Soccer - America's Path To Socialism

Uploaded on Jun 11, 2010

Why in the name of our Lord and Savior who was killed by the Jews so we could have ever lasting life, is America in some soccer tournament?? Why? Because it's all part of Barak Osama Homo bin Laden's plot to install socialism on our shores.

Everyone needs to get on the Christen Press hotness.

8 goals in 6 intl. appearances. Ripping the Swedish women's league apart.

- Greg Seltzer takes a look at US top performers in European competition (goals, appearances, etc...) over on MLS Soccer
With both the Champions League and the Europa League on crash courses for Matchday 6 of their respective group stages, we thought it a good time to break out the ol' American exports abacus to crunch all the numbers put up by our boys "in Europe" (as they say on the continent).

Many of the leaders in our chosen categories will be the expected names, but there are a few stats below to surprise – or at least test your memory. And be sure to check the recaps later this week as several Americans try to pad their totals.

All the tallies here start from the playoff round and go from there. No early qualifiers count, but in years before the current set-up, the third round makes this ledger the equivalent to today's playoff round.

Hey guys, bad news. Looks like we'll never be good at soccer:

Americans lack the poise to play The Beautiful Game, they're a brutish people and no amount of media coverage will change that. Just look at what they're "good" at: One's about being tall, the other's about steroid cattle running into each other for a few minutes between commercial breaks and then there's baseball, a sport so boring that the followers prefer to exclusively talk about statistics.

If we did not have American Football, Basketball, Baseball, Hockey here in the states and all of the children in the US grew up playing nothing but soccer striving to play in an NFL sized soccer league. The US would absolutely decimate the world in soccer. It would be so free it wouldn't be funny. We have a way larger pool of people to pull from than most European countries and I think it would be no contest if this was the case.

Just my opinion though.

Wrap it up guys. Close down the USSF, fire Klinsmann and everyone else and send the players home.

We'll simply never ever be able to compete in soccer, that guy proved it.
