Algeria seems content to play for a tie or to try and get a counter-attacking goal through the middle. It was real strange strategy for a team that still had a chance at advancing with a 2-0 win.

I think they were just trying not to lose. Just a couple counter-attacks but they mostly held back and built up a white wall.

I fully expect Ghana to play the same way btw. So the US better figure out how to actually finish on some of these opportunities as we probably won't have as much as they did this game.

I'm sure this was probably linked before, but this ESPN article about David Vanole shows how far soccer has come in America.

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/world-cup/story/_/id/5308513/ce/us/david-vanole-esophagus-saved-us-soccer?cc=5901&ver=us

I didn't realize how fragile the situation was before hosting the World Cup in 1994. When I was a kid in 1990, I knew we had a team that really wasn't that good, but I didn't know how unpopular the game was in the rest of the country. Given how far the game has come in US in 20 years, it isn't hard to imagine the MLS eventually overtaking hockey and basketball if the trend cup ontinues unimpeded. I don't think it will ever overtake pigskin, nascar, or baseball in my lifetime though.

I hope Ghana doesn't start finishing shots versus us, they have a solid offense up to the point of taking a shot on goal.

Maybe theyre sold out. There was a Univision report, that they went to 20 stores in los angeles and all the mexico jerseys were sold out, and they had all added 10$ to the price.

I cannot find a jersey for anything, three states all sold out

I tried Modell's, Dick's, and Sports Authority. They each had nothing. A guy at Dick's said they didn't order too much cause they didn't want to be stuck with it, but it looks like that was a bad decision.

USA! USA! USA! USA!:D :D

Damn, now I feel like going to a sports bar on saturday and watch the game there..... >.<
And good thing I DVR'd the game, I can't stop watching the last 10 min or so of the game:lol :lol

Went to the Nike Store today after work (still wearing my USA away track jacket and Donovan 'hero' shirt atm) in hopes of finding a
home jersey - there's barely ANYTHING left for the USA section.

I so wish I could've seen the game live, but I'm really proud of the outcome of today's game.

Hopefully Soccer Pro will have the jersey I seek.

Also, not sure if this was ever posted, but I just noticed this detail on my away jersey just before I threw it into the hamper, inside-out:

And Saturday, must go to Buffalo Wild Wings to watch it on the big screen...

So is there any way I can stream Saturday on my T-Mobile Android 1.5 phone? ESPN mobile says it doesn't work with my carrier and I don't know if there are going to be TVs where I'll be :(

Yeah Simmons twitter is posting a bunch.

So far one of my favorites.

The crowd's emotional roller coaster is awesome.
Where I watched the crowd was much angrier and louder the whole time.
I hope a video gets posted and I sort of wish I had gotten video, but I really couldn't be bothered at that moment :lol

and I didn't compliment it yet, but as we were watching a bunch of us complimented it on the midfield pass to buddle?

Bless Howard's laser rocket arm.

I believe both Ustream and Justin.TV have Android apps. You might be able to find some one streaming it on them.

P.S. Just saw the goal on ESPN Axis and can confirm that Tim Howard's throw was absolutely beautiful.

P.P.S. Does anyone know where I can get a huge picture of the celebration for a wallpaper?

This one was the best, because you can the see the horrible depression and apparent inevitability of the loss, the momentary heartbreak where the initial rush was deflected, and then, finally, the jubilation of the rebound and the biggest goal in U.S. soccer history.

Wooooooooooooooooooooo

I was doing some homework and watching the game on my laptop.

I was getting really frustrated and annoyed with the way the game was going. I think we were clearly the better side for so much of the game but our finishing was so poor. Come injury time and I was feeling almost sick with disappointment-sure that we would fail to qualify for the round of 16.

I have never felt relief and elation with regards to a sporting even like I did when Donovan scored. I don't care about our odds for the rest of the tournament. I know we're not the best team in the whole world, not by a long shot. I know that our match against Ghana will probably truly test us. None of that matters to me as much as the simple fact that we played our hearts out and never stopped trying.

If this ends up being the point that changes the perception of soccer in the US, I can say that I saw the beginning of it.

Those celebration vids are awesome. Saturday does feel like too soon for the next game; I will barely have recovered from this one but it will be nice to have a bunch of people over on the weekend.

I can't forsee the MLS overtaking the NBA, however there is growing dissatisfaction with the NBA.

With the way the US craves watching the best, I can however imagine La Liga or Premiere League games getting better rankings than NBA games. But I don't think we'll ever embrace the MLS to the same extent (unless the best start playing in it.)

Yeah, same here. Though, MLS is very big in some markets. And, I think MLS had better ratings the English Premier league this past year.

edit: fuck, crazy ass avatar, man!

They're the favorite, and there's no point in that in the knockout rounds. No reason for them to. They also beat the Americans in 2006.

Wrong -- US is the favorite! (-130)

I love these reaction videos. I was in the university bookstore for the last few minutes watching both games on TV and when the goal went in, parents/students there at orientation, a few staff (me included), etc. were all screaming, giving high fives, etc. So awesome.

Man I really hope the team pulls off the energy this victory brought. I would love us to make it through to at least the quarterfinals again!

Oh who am I kidding? WE'RE GOING TO GET THE CUP!

I know it's like, the 99th time someone's asked in this thread, but where can I get an authentic/replithentic USMNT player jersey? I want to add a Dempsey or Donovan away to go with my Altidore home. Of course, it would also rule if I could have it shipped express :lol

Tell me if you find one. No luck so far for me.

For all of you people looking for gear at brick and mortar stores, it's not that they don't sell them. They've just sold out.

I bought a USA Away replica about a week before the World Cup started. Put it on for the first game and found it was slightly tight around the shoulders, so I went back to see if I could try on the next size up and there was absolutely nothing left.

One of my favorite videos because it doesn't cut away and miss Howard's laser rocket arm hurling the ball at Donovan to start the counter.

Need a HOWARD thread.

This one is going to make the rounds.
Fan Reaction Compilation

I still love the grandma in pink in New York. :) Just awesome to see so many different kinds of people celebrating the goal.

World Soccer Shop always has discount codes around for free shipping or %10 off or something.

I'm sure all brick & mortars are sold out now.
