Essentially, people would be able to do broadcast quality in a damn handheld camera. That would be beyond huge.

Holy fuck. Geometry estimation from moving video? That is not trivial. Rangefinding stereoscopic cameras work on the basis of known, fixed distances and angles between two cameras taking pictures at the same time. To do that with two frames from a video camera would remove the known geometry/angles between the two pictures. That's pretty rough.

Although, the other limitation (that the pictures weren't taken at the same time) is probably partly why the scene must be static.

This is really impressive. It would be cool to see a paper on how this works.

seriously I can imagine many DSLR's to adopt this technology if it can work out somehow.

Just imagine somehow if the high end DSLR's that can record HD movies can take pics at the same time then this technology could be convenient and open new doors for amateur video editing.
